I’m confident that I personally would rather die than sacrifice a bunch of people to demons and become one myself but I’m not Griffith. The whole point of Griffith’s character development is showing what led to his sacrifice of the Hawks and making such a monstrous act seem inevitable. That doesn’t make it “right” though.

That’s up to you. There’s no divine authority to rule on it in the world of Berserk. Most people would say that murdering people who love you and then plunging the planet into chaos so you can be king is a dick move tho.

Griffith caused the deaths of much if not most of humanity and the rounded the rest up into a tiny area. It’s a major theme of Berserk in the conviction arc and the legend of Gaiseric that this never leads to anything good. Also what do you suppose happens to his followers when they die? Anybody with loyalty or even intimate contact with an apostle goes to the vortex of souls. Griffith lies to his people about this flat out.

One long-running but limited war. The planet of Berserk is clearly much larger than Midland and Tudor.
Remember also that Griffith didn’t really know what was going to happen and he still doesn’t. He relies on a human psychic for short-term guidance and appears to have limited if any long-term knowledge of where things are going, which means the terrible price everyone else pays for the “utopia” is always gambled.

You're all missing the point. Griffith did what he did because he beleived that of all of his followers that had died for his dream up until that point would have died in vein if he didn't take that opportunity when it presented itself. He already came to that conclusion when he was a child and the crazy gypsy fortune teller lady gave him that vision. He realized how many would have to die for his dream, an while he clearly didn't like the idea, he still accepted it as an inescapable fact. The rest of it just made it easier for him to make the leap. The jealously of guts and casca, having came so close only to fall back so far, those are just details. The rape afterwards I don't beive was really him. Much like how in vampire and werewolf stories, a very common trope is for someone to lose control when they first turn. That was basically his first impulse as a demon. After the second eclipse where he was given physical form, Griffith starts acting like his old self again as he's used to being a demon and is in control at that point. He never once lost sight of his dream through it all. He's still a bitch though.
