I feel as though this is one of the most authentic corners of the internet. There's no incentive to put up a mask to get meaningless points, so people are really human. Even with all the slurs and insults it feels better than other sites.

It's true though. When most of the other major social media platforms came on the scene you could say just about anything you wanted, now that they've grown they've become more restrictive, usually to pander to advertisers or sensitive users. You can't post NSFW content on Tumblr anymore, Twitter and Facebook will ban you for saying something even mildly inflammatory or controversial. Jow Forums is the only large-scale social media platform that still lets you say whatever the fuck you want.

The trick ended up being doing this, without completely turning away relatively sane people, along with the general normie population.

/b/ went the porn route. They tried gore, and shock culture, too, but that turned off too much of the population, and couldn't be explained easily to oldfags' friends who they wanted to bring in. Jow Forums succeeded by taking edgy comedy, which had been virtually destroyed by PC culture, and turning it up to 11. Eventually, the culture stuck, and the board evolved.

Most of the worst people on Jow Forums don't actually "get it", and take it all way too seriously, but many of us still understand that it's simply a way to keep creativity killers, like SJWs, and your average normie out.

Completely unjoinable by multiple groups, regardless of beliefs, highly specific views, and tenants unsoilable by anyone not deemed fit, and totally elitist, in every regard. That's the appeal.

I started lurking back in 2011, went from /b/ to /v/ to /vg/ to /jp/ and to every single other board before settling on Jow Forums, I am now 23.
