Fixing Skinny Fat

Someone please help me. I am skinny-fat and I absolutely hate it. I'm 6'2", 165lbs but have this disgusting bloated looking stomach and I don't know what to do about it.
I started going to the gym a few months ago but I'm not sure if I should eat a ton to bulk up while lifting, or do a ton of cardio to lose weight, but end up looking skinnier.
How do I lose the gut?

Just focus on working out for now.
Worry about the spare tire when you'll actually look good without it

How long does that take?

Roughly a year. No seriously, just do lots of HIIT and lift while eating at maintenance. I say focus on upper body to fix the horrible skinny fat look.

I was like you in high school, 6' 2'' and 160lbs. Had super thin arms looking back but never had abs. You and I probably both has Santa Clause genetics where our body fat mostly distributes on our stomachs. My dad has a huge jutting out gut but everything else in normal body fat wise. Just start lifting, gain muscle, and slowly raise your caloric needs. Now I'm 6' 2'' 190lbs, not all muscle though, gotta lose 5 - 7lbs this spring/summer.

You've described my body to a T. I started working out in January, super for about 3 weeks in February, and have been consistently working out again since March 1. I think realizing how much stronger I was in March helped me stick with it. I really fixed my diet in the start of April, as well. I'm currently down to 180lbs from 196lbs in January, and finally starting to not look as fat. I noticed definition in my biceps last week I've never seen before, that was cool

And how's the gut situation going?

Still kinda fat but it's recently receded a bit. I'm finally comfortable wearing medium sized shirts instead of large, they show off my chest more and I won't look like I'm hauling a donut underneath it

Anterior pelvic tilt, your hips are rotated forward making it look like you have that gut. It could also just be a bloated abdomen because your diet is shit. Visceral fat.

Dude you look like you don't do any physical activity whatsoever. Just start running, biking and lifting everyday no matter what. Doesn't matter what you do really just make it 1.5 hours at least a day. Come back in a month and read the sticky.

Your number 1 priority is to build muscle. Without a muscular base it's extremely hard to get down to a low bodyfat percentage, and even if you did it would look terrible.

Go to the gym and do a beginner strength routine. Focus on the big compound lifts. Your only goal for now is getting the numbers up. You could probably eat at maintenance calories as a beginner but as soon as your lifts start stalling, eat more.

Clean up your diet, eat a small surplus and lift. No you arent gonna get shredded and swole immediately but you'll grow your frame into something respectively masculine and look a 100 times better even if you're not lean.

Looks like you've never lifted a day in your life. You are completely untrained, it is possible to build muscle and trim fat at the same time just because your starting level is so low.

Do cardio every single day, on non-lifting days do 30 minutes and on lifting days do 15-20 minutes.

Divide your workouts into A and B.
A days:
>Squat 3x5
>Bench 3x5
>Pullup 3x5
>Hammer curl 3x5

Workout B
>Squat 3x5
>OHP 3x5
>Deadlift 3x5
>Chinup 3x5

Do these workouts on a day and off a day. Alternate them. Be consistent. Progressive overload and diet are the most important things. Go for 5lb PRs every single day. You'll eventually get a half decent physique.

One additional piece of advice: Supplements are a scam. The only two worth taking are protein powder and creatine. All the others are memes designed to take your money.
