What the fuck is the proper running form, I swear I read everything and its fucking contrary.

Run barefoot on grass until it feels comfortable. Get proper shoes so that when you run it feels as close to that as possible

Heelstriking is bad OP. There are no serious, successful marathon runners landing on their heels. If you aren't used to running on your toes, your calves will burn like fuck the first week, then by about week 2-3 you'll notice it feels completely natural and running is much, much easier. The only other things you need to know are to always aim to have your shin vertical when you strike, and faster cadence/shorter steps = slower, but less damaging to knees and more efficient for stamina. Longer strides/slower cadence is only good for ~1m or less.

Oh also, as a 6'4" guy who used to have scrawny chicken legs; as soon as I started running on my toes my calves started getting thicker than they ever got from calf raises, as counter intuitive as that may seem. Probably an individual, genetic thing (fast/slow twitch muscle fiber ratio?), so YMMV, but it worked insanely well for me. I gained about an inch on my ankles and two inches on my calves in about three months, then it stopped.

walking & jogging = heelstrike
running & sprinting = toestrike

How the hell can you even sprint while heelstriking, this is pretty much mechanically impossible.

The proper running form is not running.

Do low impact cardio by treadmill uphill walking, biking, swimming, etc

The injury rate for runners is absolutely fucking insane. "HURR hurr no bro I'm totally different"- yeah no sorry, huge cognitive bias showing, most people think they're better than average

Every professional runner heelstrikes. Jow Forums misinforms new runners by telling them not to heelstrike and instead run like an actual retard. Decades of shoe science has made heelstriking safer and safer. Buy good shoes and heelstrike.

Heelstrike is bad in all situations lol. If you have a bit of heelstrike in your walk it's fine but there is no reason to run like that.

center strike is the way to go.
heel/toe strike is like the gomad of running.

not running is the best running program

do incline walking, stair climber, cycling, rowing, etc

all burn as much or calories, but build vastly more muscle, and have very low impact on joints

Running is only bad for joints if you are fat/rucking, run an excess ammount (like more than 5k/day), or have shit form. Plenty of people have ran well into their 80s with no knee degeneration. Still, I always advocate for a variety of different cardio. There's no need to run exclusively every day when you can bike, swim, climb, hike, row, etc. It's much less boring this way and you get more even development in the long run.

>burn as much or calories, but build vastly more muscle, and have very low impact on joints
Rowing is the absolute king for this. A good rowing machine that ships free to anywhere in the US, is small and light enough to easily move yourself without taking up much space, and makesess noise than a treadmill costs under $1k. You can burn 500/cal a hour at a pace that you can maintain for hours without even breaking a sweat. I don't get why these aren't more well known.

Not to mention they engage over 80% of your muscle mass and lightly work your traps and rear delts, helping with the most common shoulder problems and muscle imbalances that virtually all men deal with to some extent.

>worrying about running form

just fucking use your legs bro lmao

I wouldn't run at all if I didn't need to pass some stupid shitty beep test.
I do a mix of HIIT and longer runs, but I feel like I'm not improving fast enough, and shins hurt a little during the longer runs. Not enough to slower me or anything, the pain disappears the next day, but still, I don't think it should hurt.

and make you vomit

Good tip

Mostly right. I would say the ball (between toes and arch) of your foot rather than toes if you are running for distance. If you sprint, then yeah, its common to run on your toes.

Absolutely wrong and dangerous.

If you ease into it and get technique down early you can do fine. I don't disagree though. Most runners I see have no fucking clue. Also, avoid running altogether if you're obese.

Its really not rocket science folks. When you land on your heel you are basically stopping and restarting your stride. It will fuck up your time. It will fuck up your endurance. It will fuck up you joints. It will fuck up your back.

Here's how to fucking run. Top to bottom:

>eyes straight forward. Neutral neck position.
>shoulders back and down. Do not hunch.
>arms should be at your sides, pumping at pace, with your elbow close to a 90 degree bend. Don't punch yourself in the chin. Don't cross your chest with your arms.
>back should be straight and upright. Don't sag, slouch, or stoop
>legs should be moving to "scoop" the ground from in front of you to behind you. Think of how a bull or rooster scratches the dirt. This has to with how you land on your feet too. Your stride should not look like you are quickly jumping from one leg to another.
>feet should always land on the ball unless you are sprinting. Otherwise you are taking your straight leg and driving it into the ground. Duh.
>breathing: if you get a stitch you aren't breathing right. Don't worry about if you use your mouth. Just get a rhythm going

run on sand srs
go to the beach and try to run 1 mile without stopping and then come back. it will teach you proper running form

you are literally breaking your shinbones.
literally

Inhale on left, exhale on right correct?
Haven't run in years

I like to topofthefoot strike
It feels weird at first but then once you start doing it more often and your bones rearrange themselves it’s pretty comfy

Run barefoot on hard surfaces to learn proper form

> run on sand

Very bad idea, running on soft (and unstable) won't trigger his feet nerves so that he learns proper form, the ground imbalances can also majorly fuck his shit up

Heel touches ground. Foot roll. Foot is directly under u when it takes the landing. At that time ur fore/midfoot takes the weight.

when running, every step is 7x your body weight. you don't want that shit on your heels so you need to dampen it.

>7x your body weight
You're right about the heel striking and there is significant additional force on striking, but don't mix the truth with random, made up number you just pulled out of your ass to sound smart. Are you a compulsive liar or legitimately retarded?

Can't he be both?

Lmao nigga are you to stupid to know how to run, just walk but much faster lol

I don't really track it like that, but if it helps someone else, sure. But most importantly breathe for your pace. Don't be afraid to breathe hard, but control it. Don't let your breathing become uneven. Use your mouth if you need to. Some people say not to, but if you're moving at a hard pace it helps.
All these things matter. I recommend anyone getting into running to look up videos on all of the stuff I mentioned. Also, I missed something before.
Do not rotate your hips. This usually happens because you're crossing your torso with your arms or are fatigued. I would compare to kipping on a chinup/pullup.

Why the hell would you ever breath through your nose when exercising, what the hell?

Runners are autists who weigh 5'6 and weigh 130 lbs with 8% bf.

Ofc they don't get need to huff and puff, they can tip on their toes like the fairies they are. A bigger person will have to mouthbreathe and heelstrike.

Attached: 1555919214752.png (1280x720, 558K)

Bruh just run. Fuck this technique shit. Warm up properly, start very gently, and increase gradually. Be patient, ull be fine. People over analyse form to fuck now. I get it with weights like squats etc because ur doing something unusual, but ur body WILL find its natural healthy stride if u allow it to.

Just start running lmao.

If you're a complete flabby smoker 20% bf just jog 1 min walk 2 min to begin with.

Kek. No. Some people just think they can control their breathing better that way. In nose, out mouth. As long as you control your rhythm and rate you could use either or both.

Here's the thing though. I see people running like the cockroach guy from men in black every day. It is worth doing right. It is worth taking a few minutes to find out what that is.

You need to check out Road Runner Sports.
There's a shoe for you at Road Runner

>Meanwhile, marathonian proceeds to smash his fucking heels to the ground
idk about this one, there are plenty of videos analyzing elite runners strides and they generally exhibit mid-foot running. However, there's really no point in taking any tips from the elites as they're bodies are built pound-for-pound for the sport and they cheat form in ways the normal runner would not safely be able to in order to optimize speed and cadence. To put it in perspective, I'd say any person could run a sub 5 mile, but only a few are genetically capable of going sub-4, so don't try to run like those people.

That sounds a bit gay.

Can more boomerposting happen, por favor?

The injury rate for weightlifters is absolutely fucking insane. "HURR hurr no bro I'm totally different"- yeah no sorry, huge cognitive bias showing, most people think they're better than average

see what i did? your statement means nothing
if you train smart you lower you chances of getting injured significantly
the reason most runners get injured is because they don't listen to their body and push themselves because because distance running is uncomfortable already and they are trying to push their comfort levels
if you're gonna start running you're not gonna be pushing 50+ miles a week for an event you're just going to be running like 5~15 miles a week for its benefits and if your shit feels uncomfortable you can just take it easy or not run at all
its the same for lifting weights
how many retards do you know who lift weights have fucked up knees/lower backs because they just push through it

so it also helps you to cut, wonderful :^)
