Blackpill me on sleep

Do we really need 8 hours or a specific amount of REM cycles? For the last two weeks I've slept for 5-6 hours per day and feel great. It's almost the same as sleeping 8 hours.

I'm willing to sleep 8 hours, just blackpill me and tell me why we need those 8 hours lads.

I sleep 14 hours a day and my life is hell

Yeah that's a little too much I think user.

Look at this graph.
These are my sleep stages from today.
I should have stayed awake after 7am, like the graph says. That bit of light sleep after that did not really change much.
The recommended amount of sleep is between 7-9 hours, but it depends from person to person and also on their habits.
If you drink, smoke or exercise you'll need more sleep for full recovery. It is important to spend at least one hour of deep sleep and some decent time in light sleep and REM sleep. While deep sleep recovers your body, REM and light sleep recover your brain, such as memory function and learning.

I sleep 8-9 hours a day, sometimes 10. I’m 19, and I do PPL 6 days a week, with some HIIT, and I caddy which involves some running. In college too, studying tires the brain. I assume I sleep a lot because all the activity tires me out so it takes a lot of sleep to let the muscles recover, and maybe I’m still growing a little. To fit that much sleep in you have to make it a priority and restrict your shitposting when it comes to bedtime. Being well rested is good for your mood.

You need a deep sleep, not necessarily a longer sleep. It's better to have a deep, uninterrupted 6 hours than it is to have 8 hours in which you wake up constantly and still feel tired.

Some tips
>get f.lux or turn on "night light" utility for your monitors, so that it takes out blue lights
>use blue light blocking glasses and avoid all fluorescent light that you can
>either no night light in your room, or use red night light only
>don't work out too close to bed time, else your pump will keep you awake
>buying a nice mattress really does help
>use a hypoallergenic mattress protector, and change your sheets at least once a week
>take a shower both before you go to bed and after you wake up
>sleep with some type of breeze going, either a fan or an open window if possible (not practical for most people due to allergies)

I sleep between 3 and 7 hours a night. It's completely random.

>get f.lux or turn on "night light" utility for your monitors, so that it takes out blue lights
this makes sense
>don't work out too close to bed time, else your pump will keep you awake
OK
>buying a nice mattress really does help
definitely true
>use a hypoallergenic mattress protector, and change your sheets at least once a week
once a week, are you insane? I change them maybe twice per year
>take a shower both before you go to bed and after you wake up
after waking up makes sense but not before going to sleep. either keep yourself clean or your bed

I sleep so much, I'm so fucking sick of it. I've went from caffeine to nicotine (tobacco free pouches) to adderall now. The Adderall works, too well, the rest does nothing. I just crash and sleep 14 hours straight sometimes.

I just slept around 5 hours then immediately went into the gym because I am just too busy later on. I didn't feel that tired at all but still it's a bad idea that would take its toll on me so I personally think I didn't lift that heavy today.

To sum this user up
>No Light
>No Sound (unless it soothes you)

>once a week, are you insane? I change them maybe twice per year

Holy shit, you're fucking disgusting. Do you only change your underwear twice a year, too? Buy an extra set of sheets and swap them out, sleeping on one while you wash the other.

Some people...

While "at least once a week" is a lot for most people, from convos I've had at least, this is now on the other extreme. That's way too little. I would say twice a month is good. I do mine once a week because my dogs sleep on the bed with me myself.

I'll start doing once a month, but once a week is just too much don't you think?

Nah dude you’re a neat freak. I changed my sheets for the first time in 8 months yesterday but my entire sheet was basically yellow with cum stains. It was just as crusty after washing as it was before.

Thank you for the replies everyone, learning a lot.

I tend to sweat a lot while I sleep and my sheets are noticeably gross, smelling like gym clothes, after about a week. It seems reasonable to me, user.

Once a week seems about right. Don't you do laundry at least weekly? Once every two weeks would be max. You spend hours a night wrapped up in those sheets.

How can a phone app tell you how you slept?

Detailed answer tho, I appreciate it a lot. Sadly have no questions to ask.

Appreciate this reply a lot too.

Ty anons.

You're probably right, I'll start changing them more often and see if my sleep improves

My gf sleeps in my bed as well so I should probably change them more often. It's almost the same as having a dog in your bed

Bro I wake up much better when i sleep 6 hours than when i do 8
Also kinda unrelated but can you guys rate my physique ? Nobody cared about me in cbt threats and i want to have some constructive criticism.
200 lbs 6’2’’ bench is 190 lbs, ohp is 115 and deadlift is a little more than 2 plates and squats sucknlol thank you in advance

sleeping is the most advanced form of escapism

>Bro I wake up much better when i sleep 6 hours than when i do 8
Likely has something to do with 90 minute sleep cycles. If you wake up at 6 hrs you're not waking up from a deep sleep like you would if you woke at 8 hrs.

Also get stronger and don't worry about CBT's

I use a fitbit charge 2 (fitbit.com/ie/charge2)
I only wear it when I go to bed, all the other functions are for cardio bunnies. It tracks my heart rate when I sleep and wakes me up with a comfy vibration instead of annoying alarms.

I tend to sleep more than 12 hours per day
it's impossible to know when it will happen, so it's very difficult to make actual plans
on the other hand, I also suffer from insomnia, but pills help a lot
my sleep schedule is a mess
thanks depression!

90 minutes sleep cycles are a meme, show me one scientific article that isn't from 1940

I see, makes sense. I don't sweat in bed, but I wash my sheets once every two weeks.

Does being published in 1940 make the data invalid?

Which app is this? Is it free? No ads?

It doesn't have that much of an acute effect, so not sleeping 8 hours for 6ish months or less is not too bad, it will not destroy your gains or anything. If you do for years it does have significant negative effects on health outcomes, however. Additionally, I'm pretty prone to depression and anxiety like most on this board and find a good nights sleep significantly improves my symptoms.

Don't track your sleep, they did an experiment where they reportedly measured participants sleep then told some people they slept poorly and some they slept well. The ones who were told they slept poorly performed significantly worse on dexterity and mental tests. It's just useless data that will nocebo you into having a shitty day.

it is free but you can only use it with fitbit devices, so it's kinda not free.
I can recommend the app Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock. It uses your devices microphone to track how you sleep and it works pretty well. The 30-minute wake up window is also pretty neat. You should give it a try for at least a week to decide if it works for you. The ads are held on a minimum in the app, they never bugged me.

Then I'll just look at my sleep schedule in the event. fuck off moron

You're supposed to change your sheets???

Don't do it bro
I went through insomnia in junior high
Slept 3 hours a week if I was lucky
I remember nothing of that time, feels like years were taken from me

It's highly individual. I will sleep 8-10 hours and still feel tired if I don't exercise. When I exercise 7 days a week, I wake up naturally after 6 hours and feel great. Just listen to your body.

And what happens if you don't sleep enough? What's the worst that can happen? In terms of health AND looks?

>I change them maybe twice per year
you are fucking revolting
