share your tips on how you fixed your ingrown toenails, how you avoided with the infections, dealt with pain
have one for the past 3 years and it sometimes hurts sometimes it doesnt, the infection is the worse part but kinda want to get rid of it without doing microsurgery (already did it once)
Ingrown toenail
I bitch about it to my wife and she'll get in there and cause me agonizing pain, because her dumbass file/pick gets dragged across a different toe while she's working and that bitch is oblivious. Then she'll call me a giant pussy when I pull my fucking foot back because she's literally ripping my other toes apart. Fucking hurts, bro.
I just clip my nails super deep to the side.
I used to cut the piece out that was ingrown and then wash it and disinfect it but if it keeps growing back like that you're gonna have to get surgery.
I kept getting them so often and having to have the minor surgery to fix it that the dr just cut all the way into the nail and removed the outermost bit in the far back so it wouldn’t grow back. Did it on both toes, never felt better.
They used to get all red and inflamed and then fill with puss. I remember she’d put a little cock ring looking tourniquet on the toe and rolled it back, it basically steamrolled the toe and made the puss projectile across the room
i cut it out with a knife before it gets too bad
Had it for nearly 10 years. After 7 failed surgery I went in a private hospital. They basically chopped my big toe but it healed
I...I HAVE to see a video of this.
Likewise with me you gotta cut your nails in the shape your foot shape to allow it to grow decently.
keep in mind, you will be in pain whilst you start to cut the ingrown part.
t.someone which had one
You can have a doc go and clip it out before it gets bad enough to need microsurgery. If its starting to feel funny, just have them clip it out. I had to have surgery to fix them a few times, dont jfuck around get it fixed before it gets bad and infected.
holy shit that sounds so nice
Drop a dumbbell on it, let the toenail go black and then completely tear it off. While the new one grows, the ingrown side will have the time to heal.
I just do this as soon as the initial pain starts, before it develops into a full brown infected piece of shit. I'm not sure if it actually works if your toe is completely swollen and fucked.
Easy bro. Clean out the infected area, that is if you have puss and inflammation.
Take a napkin, paper towel, tissue, fold it and slip it under the part that's digging into you skin. It'll hurt but after a weekthe nail will start to grow out. Make sure to clip the part that is sharp.
>i.e. had ingrown nail for a bit. Always clean them now.
I kept getting them often and even had the surgery twice but didn't want to go through the whole process again on the third time so I bought a pair of ingrown toenail clippers and do it myself since I know the process now. Would recommend. There's videos on YouTube showing how to do it too.
I actually was recording the first (and best) time it happened but it was years ago on an old phone. The relief though man, from the pressure release of the puss and blood leaving and then after the nail is trimmed. Feels so good even though the toe hurts from having it cut.
This is the worst thing you can do.
I had it in both toes.
I used to go every half a year and have a doctor cut my nail all the way to the root, it was painful as fuck and it always came back.
Eventually I had to get surgery to narrow my toenail. It's quick and mostly painless.
The other toe I managed to prevent it by cutting my nail correctly. Always cut them in a straight line and leave some nail on the skin.
Used to have them for years because I ate my toenails.
Just let it grow all the way through my skin and then trimmed it because it trained my dosease resistance and pain tolerance
I keep point tweezers, nail scissors and a tapered nail clipper on hand.
Using the nail clipper I'll chop the nail deep, using the scissors I'll hold only one blade and use it as a precision trimmer to cut the nail even further back, as close to the nail bed as possible.
Finally I'll use the tweezers, dig in deep and try to take the entire ingrown nail out in one go. Sometimes it fragments and you need to dig into the sore side and pull put the 'fishhook' part out (ingrown nails tend to grow backwards and hook into the tissue, so you don't always get it)
This method is pretty painless if you have the right shit, and doesn't really get infected, unless you stab yourself with the scissors.
Unlike other improvised ingrown nail clipping methods, this will stop issues for ~3 months at a time.
I don't cut my toenails I let them wear down naturally
>3 months
At this point I mean the nail has grown back enough to feel like its a bit tender, but not actually ingrown. I just keep it clipped before it becomes a problem. I haven't had a puss filled toe in like 6 years.
had it for about ten years, cured it bunch of times. The pain being gone feels weird to me so i intentionally fuck it up sometimes, and then take the whole nail later to cure it when it gets annoying again.
I spent several years doing sick call for a deployed Infantry Brigade. There are “little things” that you can do to muck around with corners and slivers and shit. After getting bitches from the training seargants for putting people on profile for weeks while we dicked around with this shit I changed what I did. I told the troops that “When they got back home” they should see someone if it continued to be a problem” but that for now my goal was to get them back to work. Instead of flicking around for a month I started just asking the entire goddam nail off. In tow days they were back to 100%, no PROFILE. It takes two years for the nail to become a problem again and by then most recruits have ETS’d.
I sincerely hope your joking.
Are you Indian?
You have to be able to swing from branches by your feet for this to work.
i had a ingrown toenail on my big toe when i was like 12-14 all i did was use hydrogen peroxide to clean the area and occasionally squeeze the pus out.
Later i discovered that because i was so young and growing fast, my old shoes were becoming too small too fast. When i started buying bigger shoes sooner, so that the shoe was always 1 size bigger then my actual foot (EU size, not US size.) then the issue just fucked off.
Never had any complaints again.
TL:DR wear bigger shoes, and use hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound.
This is how you cause ingrown toenails lmao.
>1 - cut your toenails across straight, not curved
>2 - cut a small V shape 2-3mm deep into your toenail in the middle, the V facing towards the bulk of your foot.
Oldfag here. I used to get ingrown toenails so painful I couldn't walk. My wife's grandmother told me this, some old school farmer's trick. I haven't had another one in a decade.
I used to get them chronically, but now I have a method, the key is to catch them before they get absurdly infected, a bit of pus is ok, but when it's like the picture and there is a ton of it is is bad.
What I do is take a small cotton ball and roll it into a small compacted ball, you could use TP too and fold it over several times, put neosporin on it, and around the nail on the side its infected, and then put it under the nail. It doesn't hurt, or shouldn't just feels like pressure, and lifts the nail off of the skin it was cutting into before.
Yeah that's what everyone says but that's not my experience. I don't cut it to the root, I just cut it deep to the side. If I do what is supposed to be done, cutting straight, then I get inflammation and pain. If I cut deep I have no pain at all, not while cutting and not any other time. I think I just don't have a severe case of ingrown toenails, but this works for me and I only have to look at it every few weeks when I cut my nails.
I went to the doctor and they cut open my toe to pull out the spear of nail.
I've had dozens and multiple surgeries in my life. Haven't had one in a few years, knock on wood.
Keys:
- never let it get infected
- cut it straight and leave the nail longer so it over hangs the skin
- if it starts digging down, put a small piece of cotton in there so it grows up and out instead of down and in
this. I don't know what else to do. been dealing with this since I can remember
do these things actually cause less pain?
how does this fix it?
Ive never had one as severe as pic related, but I try to use a similar concept (that is, pulling the nail away from the nail bed). I'll pry the nail away from the crevice, take a tiny piece of wadded up toilet paper or cotton ball and wedge it in there. It seems to somewhat relive the pain at least.
Not poster, but it is obvious the V cut allows for nail to compress away from toe skin reducing the nail dig.
unironically just leave it. it should heal itself within 4-8 weeks. And don't cut your nails too deep, or dont pick/bite your nails (for fingers).
Sheeeit I prefer they cut my toe
Don't do this, it's only temporary.
Just let the toenail grow out and only cut the top so it becomes a square, then round out the corners. As long as the edge of the toenail is past the skin on the side you should be fine
i cut the corner really low it grows back fucked up 3 times then looks normal it grows a dead bit of nail under the corner it's weird I pull that shit out then its all good
I had one then went to a foot doctor. He removed it but it came back. So he killed the nailbed on the edge of my toe and it can't grow back now. It didn't hurt and my toe doesn't look any different than it did before.
If you just want instant relief try getting a hot shower/bath to soften the nail then make a cut with your nail clippers like pic related: at an angle but not all the way through, it's not a complete cut. Then pull the nail fragment back along that angle, tearing it. You'll have a few weeks of relief and then you'll either be fine or it will grow back in worse. The foot doctor said as much when HE did it with his specialized clippers.
I've been doing it for 15 years now, if this is the timescale of temporary then I'm fine with temporary.
My best assumption is this - It works great, lifesaver for me.
Quit fucking with your damn toes. My family has a huge history with in grown toenails, my brother has had them so many times he finally said fuck it and they put acid on the nail bed so it wouldn't grow back. My dad had the same issues.
My theory is that he always fucked with it, any slight pain, he would go in there trying to excavate it out. Which would lead to a worst infection. I've only had 1, and it got tremendously worst after I was fucking around with it. Never fucked with my nails again and I seem to be fine. Also cut your toenails straight across, not that moon shape shit.
If it is for the last three years, you will probably have to do surgery. I also thought 8 could do something about it until I came back from school with a red shoe...
I jam the nail clippers into it cut then rip it out
how to fix it: i needed minor surgery for that
how to prevent it: keep feet clean, no fungal/bacterial infections, wear comfortable shoes, wide toe box, don't trim your nail too short, when you have to cut them, do it straight (not curved, you don't want the nail pushing your toe flesh forward, only downward)
this desu
let it grow out and occasionally fix the nail's position with thread
Had these forever till i started to cut the big toe nail STRAIGHT ACROSS, no curving to the angle of the nail, just cut your toe nail in a straight line perpendicular to the direction of the toe and it’ll eventually correct itself. So many years of pain till i figured his shit out. Good luck~
I had this quite often until I did something quite dumb, but worked. Was painting my room until the pain in my toe couldn't let me paint no more. Grabbed a knife and cut off the skin freeing the nail. Put some alcohol on it and kept on painting. Hurt a lot, but at least I have never had it again.
You do it after you take a shower/bath or preferably after soaking your foot in Epsom salt to make the nail easy to cut. I would say yes it does cause less pain cause I follow the steps above most of the time I can't even feel the nail getting cut. The pain comes from trying to shove these as far up your nail along your toe as possible to get to the root. You could cut as far as you can and then pull the nail you cut upwards towards you so it goes and gets the deep part for you though. Depends how badly you've let it grow ingrown desu. If it's just at the start these would be super effective, if it's bad you'll need to go all the way to the root like I mentioned earlier.
Step 2 actually works I can confirm this. Had ingrown toenails throughout middle school and first two years of high school Doc told me to clip a v shape into my nail and I’ve never had ingrown toenails since
I cant visualize this
It's just a triangle with the point facing you. I'll draw it in a second.
guys just let your toenail grow out until it stops hurting. You may have to move the skin out of the way at some point. You can then transition to cutting straight across instead of curving in, and you will never have an ingrown toenail again.
You just have to not cut back the edges close enough to the nail bed to start curling in and growing into your toe.
ATTENTION ATTENTION
im the fucking master of removing ingrown toenails, you do NOT need surgery, when i first got them they used to get infected and i wanted to kill myself, nowadays i remove them in 10 seconds
pic related OC for you OP
I am fucking crying laughing at this
>
Do not do this Anons, this will lock you into an endless cycle of ingrown toenails.
Listen to me lil nigga, and listen good, you'll never stop the ingrown nails, they can't be stopped, they will never stop, you have to keep battling them for the rest of your life
Its a burden that we carry forever, its the shape of your nails that cuases them
dont fucking shit talk my incredibly effective methods
end your suffering and see a podiatrist. don't be a retard and go to a general practitioner.
a regular doctor wanted to permanently remove my toenails. the specialist will burn out the nail bed on only the sides.
you cant fix this yourself.
I have had my left big toenail ingrown/come off a total of 5 times. It's pretty ugly now but I haven't had issues for years
>nail was badly ingrown in like 2012, got it removed (removal 1)
>grew back ingrown, had to be removed again (removal 2)
>was growing back ingrown so doctor cut and killed the sides
>after a long growth, it got caught on a sock i was taking off and pulled up 90 degrees from my toe, had to sleep in a chair, got removed again (removal 3)
>a few years later, i accidentally kicked a cabinet in my bare feet and the disgusting nail just fell off (removal 4)
now here i am a few years later and havent had any issues since then but its really thick and i dont even think about it anymore, but im worried that one day im gonna have some trauma to it and have to get it removed again
Live with it.
I've done every home trick in the book and they just come back.
They stop hurting eventually.
Honest question: What the fuck is the biological point of the toenail?
Jesus Christ ive never had one of these and the idea horrifies me how does it happen?
genuinely feel for you guys
I went to the doc and he cut it out and applied some acid so it doesn't grow back. It looks kind weird but it's worth it to not have to deal with that shit.
Epson Salt Baths for starters
vestigial bodily feature from a time when we had claws/longer nails that were used for climbing or defense or other practical reasons, evolution isn't an intentional process to adapt, its a process of elimination that leaves only those whose shit stuck to the wall when they threw it to survive
I used to have problems with ingrown toenails for 4 years. I fixed it by putting cotton underneath the part that was ingrown, pushing the nail away from the skin. I walked around with cotton under my nails for two weeks and it was fixed.
My nail is actually still ingrown and bends almost 90 degrees down, but there is no skin there anymore to get irritated by the nail.
I got fucking tired of working on my feet every day with an ingrown toenail, sometimes you’d hit it just right and it cause enough pain to make a grown man cry. I decided enough is enough and went to a podiatrist. I thought whatever he’d do to it was going to hurt worse than the ingrown nail itself which is why it took me so long to convince myself to go. He numbed it down with local anesthetic before so didn’t feel a thing. It was the best decision I ever made. Not feeling excruciating pain every step is amazing user
I used to have this problem and got both my toenails removed last year. I got both toenails removed and the nailbeds cauterized. It didn't hurt at all and took maybe 20 minutes start to finish. If you get them chronically I recommend getting surgery. Although there are lots of kinds of surgery and treatments, you don't have to get them removed like I did, I just wanted it quick easy and 100% effective.
See
You can absolutely stop them, your technique is what leads to these in the first place.
I make an angled cut along the toenail and peel it back slowly until it pulls out the entire side. Half the time it hurts like a mother fuck and can bleed out, but it works.
I do this too. I make a diagonal cut and then pull the ingrown corner of toenail out.
It has one.
Stop repeating this. It's fucking stupid. It's why you still have the problem, you fucking retard.
please draw this out for me desu
cool drawinf
A podiatrist told me to avoid these devices, but I forgot why exactly
I use to get horrible ingrown toenails on my big toe.
Only thing that solved it was cutting the nail in a straight line and never letting it get cut too close to the skin on the sides of the tow. The red line in my image.
If it gets cut too low it will always get ingrown.
Never do this lmao. You will still get ingrown nails.
Nailcuck
Women that are not gentle are fucking useless
I got surgery for mine. AMA
Haven't had an ingrown since I did it, but thanks for the input faggot.
I had this shit cut out multiple times by a podology specialist, once I had the whole toenail stripped off in a hospital. Unfortunately it was constantly growing back in. In the end I just stuck a bunch off cotton under the nail to lift it up. After couple of months it grew out straight and so far there's no signs of any problems. 5/7 would highly recommend trying.
