Their training is so hard that even the SAS say it's hell. You're basically going to die (fact) for a country that doesn't even care about you.

Your first day is gonna be three tests. Intelligence, interview, running. If you can't do the run at the end, you're fucked. And at 5'2 and 190, you can't fucking run. It's not a killer, something like 1.5mi and 11 or 12 minutes, I forget exactly, but if you can't do it, you are OUT. If you don't score well on the IQ test, you are OUT. If they don't think you have the psych for it, you are OUT. Then the run.

If you make those three cuts, then there's a few weeks of isolated pre-recruit training to try and weed you out. Lots of harrassment type of stuff, standing still in the sun, close-order drill, lack of sleep. You're being evaluated. At the end of that period, they'll take the top fraction of the people that they had make the cut, it's competitive. If you make that cut, they'll let you try on the Kippee for a minute, and then you're off to Basic Training.

Lose the weight and get to running.

By all accounts it takes weeks now. Some guys don't get to their gestapo for a month if they go in the summer.

1. RUN every fucking day until you can do 2800m in 12 minutes

1. Pass the pull-up test

You will clean, run, and hate life for 5 years and then get a French Passport. You will not get shot at, shoot anyone, be a fucking operator, or serve with people who care about you. Legion is a long march to a better passport, but it's every man for himself and the people are animals.
If you want combat stay home and join Filo army, but if you want €1200 per month and are willing to essentially lose 5 years to seudo-jail to live in Europe then go for it.

I've read the book by Simon Murray and thought it was pretty cool to be in the FFL. Then I realized that the modern warfare is now totally fucked. And France is a pussy country nowadays so there would be nothing to achieve or experience in the FFL.

IMO, the best army to join today is the Israeli. They are the best bet if you want real soldier action.

I looked into joining the french foreign legion
you have to:

>run 1 kilometer in less than 12 minutes
>7 pull ups
>perform 20 (or 10 or 30 don't remember it because i do 100 normally) push-ups
> swim 25meters without help
>don't be massive overweight
>not being searched by interpol (so didn't commit murder or drug crimes)
>not missing more than 4-6 teeth (depending on nessecity)

How many Brits are in the Legion these days? My uncle was a repman in the 80's and the vast majority were either Brits or Germans.

When I was in it was about (I'm just guessing from my regiment) 25% Nepalese, 25% Slav, 25% South America, 10% Africa, 10% Western Europe and 5% anyone else

Most armies have a Minimum height and with 5'2 you'd be below the german standarts for sure.

Your BMI must be between 20 and 30, as long as you pass the tests and are selected height is not a problem.

That's their new 'minimum'. It's basically just a tool to keep people who clearly aren't prepared from getting past the gate and wasting their time.

Everything I've read says these days you need to be able to put in at least 15, 20 to be safe that you won't be dropped just because a PT stud is next to you in line.

It's the Legion though, so their standards are basically random past the initial criteria. Every American I know that tried was ultimately just rejected because Americans are soft and don't like getting slapped around for below minimum wage.

One thing I've heard bits about but can't really get an answer on is native frenchmen serving in the Legion. Like a guy was saying there was a Toulousian who went through training with him, but right afterwards found out he was given a slot in the standard french army and ditched. Are they all the same "trying to get a new start" guys or what?

You need to be able to score 2800 meters on the Cooper test or a 7 on the Luc Leger, though they really expect an 11. They run fucking constantly.

Many Frenchmen in the Legion.
Some join because the max age for regular Army is 30, others because they are criminals, maybe some join because they like the location of the regiment. I'd say most join because Frenchmen get promoted almost instantly and are pretty much the only ones who can go from Legionnaire to Officer.

3 miles in 20 min. 100 push-ups. 200 sit-ups. 15 pull-ups (full hang pull-ups). You’ll be good to go and selection will be relatively a non issue. IIRC that’s a near perfect score (or very high score at least) for the US Marine corps physical fitness test.

The last thing you want is to drop $600 on a plane ticket, get there, and get cut because you didn’t take the prep seriously and get totally gassed doing easy stuff.

Those are the bare minimums to be let in the building, not a good benchmark to actually be a good candidate. If you're a 30 year old with no prior military experience and a dubious history, you need to make a damn good impression on the selection board to be allowed to go rouge, much less make it through training.

They don't exactly advertise themselves. All their social media presence is basically the bare minimum of training videos and the occasional booth at parades in Paris.

And now with how easy it is to learn about them, combined with the lack of a real war, means they can reject 90% of candidates and still be overstrength.
