i can back this with anecdotal evidence if you like. when losing weight minnesota starvation experiment way and eating very low throughout the day, i did maintain my weight, but i was very hungry and my weight would go up if i ate over 1000. even 1000 was too much. granted i was a skeleton so that might have been the reason for my slow metabolism, not the actual cico diet i did. but eating even below my recomendation in recovery made me overshoot my starting weight. now, in keto, i am already at my previous starting weight (lost 10 kg) but my metabolism isn't damaged.
