>hey bud i know you gotta go excercise and it 5pm. But we got deliverables due. Your gonna have to stay late so we can get this report to the board by the tomorrow morning.

What the correct response in this situation?

Ive recently quit my shitjob for easier one
Will work less hours but during saturdays / sundays and evenings

If you dislike it, quit, or stop complaining

Pls Dont bully fresco

'Boss', you shouldn't have over promised something without backin it up yourself. I am in no position to discuss terms you have made with your colleges and yourself but I can say this; I have other shit to do than what you request me to, solve your shit 'boss'.

>"You payin' overtime?"

The correct response depends on whether this is a rare occurrence and whether I'm gunning for a raise or something. Only autists will flip out if it's just the former.

Depends how much you value your job.

If you want to excel and show that you care, stay late. If you aren't that way inclined, tell him no and leave. What you certainly shouldn't do is stay just because you're too scared to say no.

"I have to pick up my kids, bye"

>Blow it out your ass, Clarence. You've had my part of the report in your inbox as well as a printed copy on your desk for three days now. I'm done letting you get away with doing nothing while I carry us both. If you don't have your part done by tomorrow, I'm telling Paul exactly why.

>Your gonna have to
Not in my contract, nor will it ever be in any conctract I'll sign. Go choke on a dick.

I remember I had one job where they wanted everyone to "put in the time" and work "after hours."
But their only metric for this was "stuff done after 5PM." So I would just show up between 10 and 10:30, do my regular amount of work, sit on my completed work and submit it all between 5:15 and 5:30, then leave.
They gave me a giftcard for working late so often.

>Sure, but give me your jacket. I'm keeping it. Also this counts as overtime.
>goes back to shitposting

This. Is this a serious project with shit on the line or is fuck face fucking off again and making this an every day thing?

Also,
>Working a desk job

Do your job

>not valuing overtime

I actually got written up at work because they said I was deliberately doing too much over time and I showed up on a report.

It’s even better because my job is nothing but sitting around all day and watching tv while I browse Jow Forums.

see

Pull my pants off and take a shit on my desk.

How do I get into such an ideal position?

A lot of people are exempt, salaried without getting paid extra for overtime. I use this as an opportunity to work way less than 40 hours per week but others don't for some reason.

I had this shit done to me as an intern even though I actively skipped lunch and finished all my shit with flying colors before 5. Manager wanted me to stay until 6 even though I had nothing to do. A mini confrontation happened and stood my ground (even took it to the director who took my side). But I never got the job at the place after the internship; before I left he told me it isn't how skilled or talented I am, but whether I'm likable. You sometimes have to see if it's worth being a doormat or not. In my case it wasn't worth it.

You're better off without that job.

what does this mean

Wow you failed completely. It’s literally your job as an intern to be a doormat. Causing shit as an intern Jesus Christ

>Hey, bud. I know it's your weekend off, but we need some extra hands on deck to make sure this transaction goes through. Alright? Corporate wants everyone to pull their weight on this one, remember: we're a team, we're a family, alright? I expect to see you in at 6 as usual, Saturday morning. OK, champ? Knew I could rely on you. Yeah, alright. Thanks, bud.

This.

I used to work a job like this and I worked maybe 3 hours a day. Granted, my day was still revolving around “work” (meaning I was in the general area in case they needed me) but most of the time I was playing vidya or watching tv or working out nearby at my apartment

Yeah I go to my office and I'm "there" 10-6, but since people have so many meetings it's hard to track people. I leave for the gym 3x/week, nap 4-5x/week and once or twice a month I go to the movies or something with my friends.

>tfw stuck in a job just like this
>expected to work at LEAST 1 hour overtime a day on most days
>worst part is job is basically a fucking joke
>company sells pressure cookers and pressure cooking equipment
>my job is to conduct market research, come up with ideas for advertising, packaging changes etc
>have worked 40 hours overtime on a 'project' once that was involving me finding out which type of language customers prefer when they are reading instructions on how to check for errors with the rubber ring around the lid of the pressure cooker
>ended up intentionally doing half the project on why informal childist language like 'the ring is dingled' or 'the rubbers trubbered' don't work
>had to produce hundreds of references to various journals to satisy my bosses
>report was 200 pages long
>still not sure what the point was and what it was used for, never received any feedback whatever
>my boss forces me to keep a mug on my desk that says 'i got promoted from the frying pan department!' and gets mad if i take it off to wash it etc

kill me

>work out at 5am
>never worry about things getting in the way of my gym schedule

I just work from home full time. The amount of actual work I do is staggeringly low.

>tfw i don't live in USA and the law sais i get to go home after my daily hours and boss has to pay me double to do overtime or if he fires me i get a big settlement

You guys need to learn how to be understanding, but firm at the same time. This is not a scenario where sperging out is necessary. Just say it's important that you get home on time because there's a lot of stuff you have to do, apologize for the inconvenience, and go home. By the next day, odds are your boss won't even remember the exchange.

Think about it a bit

Thinking about scaling my hours back by about 25%, or even more. Making a lot of money (for me), but working 50+ hours a week. I generally like what I do, but it's a lot of stress, and I often bring my work home with me (paperwork). I have full control over my schedule, and I can work as much or as little as I want. I'm only 33, so I figure now is as good a time as any to work my ass off, but I also think I would enjoy having more free time to be with my family, even if it means making less money. Anyone on Jow Forums do something similar? Worth it? Regrets?

>tfw i just want a part time job so i can work as little as possible while still keeping a roof over my head
>migrants get all the easy jobs

Thanks EU.

“I already scheduled plans for the rest of the day after work.”
Grow balls. They’re going to fire you anyway if they want to.

:( yellow cheetah?

The point is he drew a wacky cartoon cheetah out of the structure that was available because the deadline didn't give him time to draw a full cheetah.

>>my boss forces me to keep a mug on my desk

On pain of death?

Inadvertently, if he gets fired he could end up homeless and starving.

It’s kind of a gamble tbhqhwuf

I’m looking for another job right now because this one is too mundane and I literally feel like I’m wasting my life away. The only thing preventing me from it though is that I’m scared I’ll end up getting another job that I fucking hate

>working
Not gonna make it.

underrated post. even if you don't have kids, either start lying and say you do, or that you have to help your brother/sister with their kids because their ex left, shitty situation, etc. "family emergency" will be excused pretty much without question

You're a cucked beta. Sorry bro
