On some level it might be true due to the TDEE of women being smaller on average, thus if you were to scale the possibly rate of loss compared to men it'd be slower, though the difference shouldn't be that huge and it ultimately doesn't matter as long as you're losing the weigh. You're really need to go completely out of rails to end up in a situation where you can't fix yourself in 3-9 months.
But in general people actually don't care about losing that much, seeing how much coping and denial is involved when people "diet" despite many reasonable approaches being within the grasp of their pocket.
