The ONLY reason to join Legion is if you are a criminal and need a new identity. If you want a French passport apply for citizenship the normal way it will probably be quicker and definitely far less painful. If you're joining for combat, forget about it; the Legion hasn't shot at anyone in years and likely won't for a long time yet. If you're joining for the Jow Forums aspect forget about it, all legionnaires look like marathon runners/auschwitz survivors except for the ones on roids.

Don't listen to anyone unless they can prove they were in the Legion, because they will be wrong.

I'm a kiwi in NZ and I've picked it up pretty quickly. The hardest part is learning to differenciate the sounds, after that it just takes time.

I'm from Guinea-Bissau, it's one of the poorest countries in the world. I tried to emigrate to Brazil, then to Portugal, but got both my applications rejected because I didn't have any kind of useful qualifications. I don't believe in illegal immigration like all the other blacks in Europe, so in the end I said "fuck it" and flew to France to join the Legion knowing in 5 years I'd have a new passport.
If I had my time again I wouldn't have joined the Legion it wasn't worth it.

You promote to CPL, you can order another man to clean under your bed, buy you beer, clean your rifle, or carry your backpack. You'd be unable to access any of the money you earned, and with your passport still being held by the Legion you'd have to somehow get to your country's embassy to get a new one, though from what I've heard as long as you don't try to desert with your rifle nobody is going to look for you too hard. If you get caught at any point you'll be dragged back and get your ass kicked in the brig for a couple of months, after which you'll be let go. If you do manage to escape you'll be arrested upon entering France.

If people are looking to join the foreign legion, it's a pretty sure bet that they can't join their own military. There aren't any wars on and a lot of smaller countries are being real picky about recruitment.

Minimum is 7 turns of Luc Leger and 4 pullups, but if you want to be sure do at least 10-12 turns of Luc Leger, and 10 full pullups, clean urine and not being a retard in the psychological test. Straight to Aubagne cause if you apply in other locations you'll still have to go to Aubagne. Bring your documentation, this isn't the 1930s you don't go there to run away from a life of crime, and anything more serious than say petty theft means you won't be taken in.You will get a new identity after joining and you can only get the old back after a year. For the first 2-3 months you will not be able to contact anyone, so if you leave family and friends behind tell them.
Training is hard and gruesome but not as bad as some idiots here make it out to be. Most FFL units are held to be higher standard than the regular chlabors but that's due to harsher training and more missions.

When you can comfortably run 10+km without getting physically taxed and practice the beep test a lot. Make sure you have good teeth etc. You are competing with the best of the selection and even having a rash of some kind might end up in dismissal even if you pass the tests perfectly.
Also do not lie in the interview. Legion works with Interpol and secret service to dig out your past and they will know about your criminal background if you have one.
Please remember that there are still tons of people from former eastern european countries. These guys are looking for salary as the countries are poor asf, not being a soldier...

That's the same shit in every French corps, what do you think ranks are for? They're not just a pat on the head for being a good boy and extra money every month, you're actually supposed to have more responsibility with them.

They say they take guys up until 39, but those are usually exceptions for absolute .001 percentile operators and doctors who are on the run from a bad lawsuit. These days they rarely take anyone older than 28, because they have such a large candidate pool for so few slots.

I've been training for it for eight months and my plane ticket is for October. My pull ups and runs are fine, I got lasik on my weaker eye, and I've been taking french classes. I'm also reading the Douglas Porch history of the legion so I know about the organization.

I've just read the acceptance statistics and I know that they're not interested in another oldish white american with some college experience, no matter how motivated he is. There are plenty of rejected legionnaires who "wanted it more than anything".
