The "scam" bit comes from the ones who believe in bullshit like every single health malady is caused by your spine being out of alignment. I don't know if that is taught in their schooling but most of them don't really believe that. Only the quacks peddle that stuff. The ones I've been to have been pretty down to earth.

They help, especially if it's an actual injury. I had a dislocated rib that the chiropractor fixed in one visit. I have 6 family members that all go for various reasons, and all find relief. But you have to find a good one and not a meme chiro doing overly dramatic "moves" for YouTube..a good one can just fix you before you know what's even happening.

It's a scam. And I'll tell you the simplest way to know it is a scam.
Ask yourself: have you ever met a chiropractor who was an asshole? No? Of course not. Because chiropractors can't be asshole when 90% of what they do is useless. They have to maintain a professional image or the jig would be up.
Ever met a doctor that was an asshole? You probably know several of them. And the more specialized and skilled they are the more likely they are to be an asshole. Because what they do works, and everyone knows it. So they can be an asshole and still have patients coming to them.
THAT SAID, sometimes all a person needs is to go somewhere quiet, and have people treat them with dignity and respect. A chiro does this. He sits down and listens to you for a minute, nods respectfully, then he gives you a back massage. Maybe later they put some hot towels on your neck and hook you up to a TENS unit.
For a lot of stressed out people out there who go see a chiro every month this is enough. It's a trip to the spa that can actually be covered by insurance.
Placebo effect is real and has its uses. Don't count it out. But if you are actually hurt please see a real doctor.

I had a lower back issue after long flight. Chiro xrayed back to assure no structural issues, basically just had super tensed erectors. Worked out area and fixed in 2 sessions what I'd been dealing with for 2 months. No GP or spinal Dr would have offered same results.
