What is /fast/?
>Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.
discord.gg/qqtQFDQ

What’s the difference between intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, etc.?
>Intermittent fasting: Fasting for a certain amount of time with a short eating window. 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8 hour eating window) is the bare minimum.
>Water fasting: Fasting with only water.
>Dry fasting: Fasting with no water. Dangerous, use with caution.

Why should I fast?
>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3946160/
>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11147801
>idmprogram.com/difference-calorie-restriction-fasting-fasting-27/
>youtube.com/watch?v=sUhYmNRHFiU

How do I safely do an extended fast?
>Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.
>Water=2L
>Potassium chloride =1 tsp (No Salt)
>Sodium chloride = 1/2 tsp (Himalayan Pink Salt)
>Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp (Baking Soda)
>Magnesium Sulphate = 1/2 tsp (Food Grade Epsom Salts)
>Mix these in 2L of water and sip it throughout the day.
>[OPTIONAL] 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar and 4 tbsp lemon juice. DO NOT MIX with snake juice, drink separately.
>You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

Won’t I go into starvation mode?
>No. The mainstream definition of starvation mode is a myth. Read the FAQ linked below for more information.

Will (something with calories) break my fast?
>Yes.

Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners?
>You can do whatever the fuck you want. We recommend avoiding those, sweeteners especially.

Do I need a multivitamin?
>No

Does anyone else feel really tired all the time when doing 16:8 intermittent fasting? And also I feel like my brain is shrinking. And I've been fasting since December. I think I'll stop this. Or maybe switch to a different schedule like 5:2 days.

That sounds like your diet is bad.

Does Cole really post in these generals?

Yo cocksukaz
I'm gonna do the impossible, ya dig?

I've been doing 16:8 several times per week for 10+ years without knowing (staying up all night then sleeping in past midday), especially on weekends. I still have a small fat band on lower stomach which i can't shift. I eat high quality and a good diet.

Why does Cole say GET THAT FAT IN YA if he's against keto?

That could be, I'm also avoiding dairy religiously so my diet is probably not diverse enough. I also don't drink coffee because that makes me feel like shit and I don't like tea, so no caffeine for me. BTW I'm not fasting to lose weight, only to lower my IGF because it's literally over 200% the normal value.

You're probably not working out either I suppose? I hear the best time to work out to lose fat is at the end of the 16 hours when you're in ketosis so the body is burning the fat. When you work out while not being in ketosis, the body just uses carbs and whatever is in your belly and intestines.

there's been a push for low-fat everything when it comes to foods when some fat can be good for you and even necessary.

He's against the "keto diet", not against nutritional ketosis, he even advocates for breaking and entering a fast with fats.

>Why does Cole say GET THAT FAT IN YA
nowadays he says STOP FUCKING EATING FATTY

A couple hours more and I’m done with with dry fasting for good. I seriously need to stop obsessing over garden fountains.

My cock is numb

On hour 69. What you bros on?

Gonna break it tomorrow, getting some headaches.

20, dry. Feel fine other than a few cravings but this is just the calm before the storm.

Has anyone here ever tried an alcohol only fast? Instead of food/water, just drink fine whiskey.

43. I finally made it to my 2nd day after maybe a ten attempts or so. I always caved in to sugar cravings. I have been IF'ing on-and-off for years so OMAD is easy for me. Planning to fast as long as possible.
>starting weight 86 kg
>goal weight 70-75 kg

Seems bad.

166, two hours away from the 7day mark and the end of the fast. It's been gud but I'm ready to move on now

43 and looking forward to eating some juicy steaks in 12 hours.

Ethanol is carbs, idiot.

Bone broth that I've been cooking since this morning for dinner. Tomorrow I'll go with bone broth, cooked celery and carrots, kefir and maybe an avocado

>Ethanol is carbs
Did I say it wasn't, fuckhat?

Nice. Well done.

And how exactly do you want to fast on carbs, retard?

>Inb4 some 'juice faster' tells you about how amazing their colon is

Has anyone here beat food/sugar addiction?
Before all of my failed attempts I binged on a lot of candy, chocolate, ice cream and pizza. Before this fast I ate:
>pasta (1.6k kcal)
>ice cream (> 400 kcal)
>3 chocolate bars (> 600 kcal)
>a whole jelly roll (over 1k kcal)
>deep fried fish and chips with mayo (calories unknown, but probably close to 1k)

All of this was after 4 PM. Food makes me feel good. How do I beat the addiction? This is one of the reasons I'm trying fasting.

t.

I said alcohol only, fasting on everything else. How is this hard to understand? I didn't say I was planning on it, I wanted to know if anyone has tried it. I just remember reading this:

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6892517/Ohio-man-beer-diet-Lent-dropped-34-pounds-starting-fast-Ash-Wednesday.html

How long has your fast been going fren, you seem cranky and aggressive as fuck?

Alcohol is ethanol which is a carbohydrate. You can't fast on alcohol. I don't think anyone tried it seriously.

To fast, by definition, is to limit all or most kinds of the food/water you eat/drink. An alcohol fast is technically possible.

>I don't think anyone tried it seriously.
Apart from in that link directly above your post?

Sure bud you can fast by drinking only alcohol, you'll get the benefits of a fucked liver, a fucked digestive system, a fucked brain and a fucked life afterwards. If that's what you're after, go get it tiger

I quit sugar for around 4 months (NY to 20th April). I decided to test myself to see if I can eat it in moderation. What I have learned is that I cannot. I'm currently dry fasting to kill the addiction again.

Some people can do moderation, some can not. It's much easier to kill the sugar addiction by cutting it out permanently. If you eat sugar again you're virtually back at square one. If you're not a moderation kind of person then be prepared to say goodbye or be a slave to it forever.

>If that's what you're after, go get it tiger
No thank you, hence why I'm ASKING and not DOING. Go break your fast.

Attached: index.jpg (300x168, 12K)

Ethanol is not a carbohydrate lmao

Everything he listed is high in fat and low in carbohydrates, which is why some people have trouble limiting their consumption. Sugar plays no role in so-called "food addiction" as people are only "addicted" to high-fat foods. Sugar itself prevents excess consumption through FGF21 and inhibits binge eating, too bad 98% of the population are eating a high-fat diet and are perpetually carbohydrate-deprived which makes them susceptible to binging. Tough luck

lmao @ the level of discourse in this kind of thread though

Just finished my first fast, 42 hours, and just wanted to know is the need to move common? I couldn't sit still for more then ten minutes after the twenty hour mark. I planted my mom's lilacs for her, cleaned and detailed the inside of my car, worked in my garden for like three hours. It was nice to have the drive to get shit done, I thought I'd be hungry and lethargic since it was my first time

Guys I've been doing OMAD and feel like I developed a cold yesterday. Woke up and not hungy after not eating 24hours now. Should I eat normally while getting over the cold?

I wouldn't eat unless you're actually hungry.

Thanks for the advice, bro. I suspected as much. I hope in the future I could eat sugar occasionally, birthday cake for example, but I’m willing to give it all up if I can get shredded. Strangely enough, I’m not having cravings right now.

What I listed was high in both sugar and fat. I always binge on carbs alone or both carbs and fat, but never just fatty foods. I can eat 500 grams of candy in one sitting.

Is food not needed to get over the cold?

Just stopped at 60 hours and I feel great that my bmi is back to 21. I'm going to make sure to go to the gym every week and never eat garbage ever again to maintain it. Glad I made it. Peace.

Uh, no?

Will something with literally 8 kcal break my fast?

Yes

What if I burn it off now

Feels good man

i enjoyed the mcdonalds vid

nah, i think he should do it
user if you're still alive after your whiskey fast, report in on your gains or whate'ver the fuck /fast/ does to report in
>48 hours, nothing but whisky
>thin as a rail, but oddly muh liver is swollen to the size of a basketball
i think we should all give it a try
nice work

I'm doing intermittent fasting with keto, 1800cal (160g protein, 120g fats, 20g grams), in a 4h window. Results are excellent, have lost 7kg in around 4 weeks, while actually and surprisingly making progress in the gym.

I have one question though - would it be fine to a have cup or two of bouillon from cube during the fasted window? Technically it includes some calories, like up to 2g of fats and carbs total, 5-15 cals, depending on the brand. I think it would help with some savory cravings I have in the evening and also while fasting, the sodium requirements are higher. But would spike insulin and break my fast?

Congrats bruh. How much did you lose? I've done a couple 7s and lost ten pounds each time and kept that weight off.
It's nice seeing people doing actual extended fasts. The "omg 24s and 48s are so hard" posters need to shut up.

No idea how much i lost, haven't weighted myself in like a year now. I think I weigh around 70/75 kg tho

You could try it. Or make bone broth. I find that certain things spike hunger and other things help. That's why I never have artificially sweetened drinks.

some fitness competitors have cut pre-show on spirits, arguably to prevent muscle loss

idk why it would be superior to straight fasting, maybe they were medicating vOv

you're bored and you want mouth pleasure. entertain yourself with something else, something with purpose.

the battle is best fought at the store, don't have those things laying around and you won't eat them.

Keep going then, that's too heavy.

Oh shit I heard you can lose 1.5kg/day on the snake diet??? What if I'm a hamplanet?

You won't lose that much fat. It doesn't require that much energy to live per day unless you really are planet sized.

3500 cal deficit is needed to lose 0.5kg. So unless you're a super active athlete or sth, this is the max you're gonna lose per day while consuming no calories.

He's against keto because they cram way more vegetables than necessary and they eat constantly. For Cole fasting focused lifestyle >>>>> ketogenic lifestyle, although of course you can and should do both

Probably not true seeing as a pound of fat on the body is not pure fat/oil. It's less than 3500 calories.

went 60h and 80h once, trying to go for 120 hours now

>He's against keto because they cram way more vegetables than necessary and they eat constantly.
So he's against keto because someone out there is specifically eating keto in a way he doesn't like? Lol

more like 1700 at best

Oh Jesus I'm gonna fast for 12 days on just pink salt, wish me luck!

That’s what I was wondering, someone said he posted a picture of himself once

Get the potassium in as well. You can't have sodium without potassium. Either take both with water or take nothing and do a dry fast.

I think he's against in that people think it's the only way to reach ketosis when you can just fast and get there in about 48 hours. it also still has the bad eating habits that people will argue are healthy because the fucking box says "keto friendly".

Yeah. Well the marketers are coming in with all sorts of bullshit products. If we though 'keto bars' are bad, someone linked a 'fasting bar' in a previous thread, LMFAO.

No, he's against it because eating much more vegetables than you need constipates you and in his opinion is too much when you should be thinking of vegetables as medicine rather than food. As for eating too often, it literally goes against everything Cole stands for lol. The opposite of fasting is stuffing your face 6-8 or even 10 times a day.

>The opposite of fasting is stuffing your face 6-8 or even 10 times a day.
Yeah but that's not a fundamental aspect of keto. No one I know on keto does that.

Cole's criticism was that many people in the keto scene do that and that at the end of the day running a fasting schedule was more important/beneficial than managing your carbs. To be honest, I have to agree.

Attached: Screenshot_20190519-173656_Fastient.jpg (1080x2220, 218K)

Also should be noted again that Cole isn't against the ketogenic diet, he's against the culture surrounding it and the way its practiced. IIRC he said something like "I can eat a pound of carrots, start fasting, and be pissing black on the ketone strips a few days later. Sometimes it takes these people over a week to get into keto because they stuff their faces every day. What a joke"

What's a fasting bar lol

It's
>Fasting on your own terms

A candy bar. Just like the keto bars.

Don't really track anymore, I find it easier to keep my mind off fasting

Dropped 40lbs since December 8th. I definitely lost muscle but I feel the gains

it means get (as in get rid of) that fat inside of you

How can I do 7 days? I've done some 48s but feel like trash. I don't do the snake juice because I am moving in three weeks and don't want to stock up on stuff. Any ideas?

What does trash mean in this context? How have you been eating recently? Keto OMAD?

Trash as in "I can' do this anymore, I'll break my fast now."

I do OMAD, not necessarily keto but

getting hungry frens

Attached: 1557463687539.png (824x437, 524K)

Can't do because... You're hungry, you're nauseous, you're tired or ..

As you know, generally hunger spikes the highest on the first full day without food and starts getting easier after that.

Hungry that long into a fast often means lack of body fat or nutrients. You got enough weight on you to fast this long? And how nutritionally complete is your diet normally?

I've had anxiety issues before, making my hands and legs 'disappear', and my head spin, dizzyness and fealing sluggish and heavy. On fast day 2/3 these symptoms feel like they're coming back and I'd rather break fast than get anxiety again I guess. Should I just try and power through it?

Is this a long-standing anxiety issue in your life, or is this only with fasting.

Also, how is your blood pressure and heart rate while fasting?

Long-standing. I 'beat' it - as in, Idon't have anxiety anymore, only the symptoms it created (sometimes) - a few years ago. Being up very late, drunk/high and fasting, makes the symptoms return. So I try to avoid these.

My heart rate and BP are 'excellent' according to three measurements I've had since I started OMAD and 2-3 48s per week.

Well then that's up to you if you really want to try pushing thru. Keep in mind, extended fasting won't have a big change compared to 3x48 in a week combined with omad.

what do i eat for shits that aren't huge, dry, and painful

Really messed up this weekend, probably ate over 5k cals per day.
It's a double edged sword, because I've started to become social and meet a lot of cool people I genuinely can call real friends now, but it seems that every hangout of adults must consist food and drinks. And I just end up binging on shit like crazy, I had to muster up a lot of willpower to turn down all the beer I was offered, but ended up eating chips and shit though.
When I'm socially isolated, I find it extremely easy to keep strict on my diet, but the loneliness is a slow painful death.

How do you manage to balance out the /fast/ life and social gathering life, social-bros?

Attached: tim-harris-restaurant-owner_lbajwu.jpg (360x450, 53K)

you'll be a whole different person in less than a month if you fast hard. time the social events around refeeds. alcohol is useless.

>work at dunkin donuts
>usually work 8-10 hour shifts with no break
>always end up fucking my fast because I get hungry and eat a donut or drink coffee
How can I train myself to stop eating? I was thinking of using rubber bands and just snapping myself every time I get hungry, anyone tried that before?

Anyone feel like they have a better sense of smell after fasting for a few days?

I feel significantly more mentally active and energetic. But I haven't seen any difference in any senses, like smell.

Which fast should I go for if I'm type 2 diabetic? I heard OMAD would end up spiking my insulin. Should I try dry fasting or stick with water and intermediate fasting?
