Used to play basketball, then handball and then I end up with athletics (1.5km run and shot put and some other stuff). Was fun but then I started going to high school, started drinking and playing vidya and overall doing nothing.

Long story short:

One of our guys came out as gay at that time. Most of us were cool with it, didn't care but one guy kept making passive agressive comments, talking shit about the gay guy and trying to excluse him

It led to a lot of drama and people jumped ship when it wasn't enjoyable anymore

Few years passed and the one guy who tore the group up is a religious extremist now... I wish we didn't let him tear our group apart, he was the main reason (also some of my bros are easily manipulated and not that smart so they got tricked and ate all the lies he told them)

Football, baseball, basketball, track and swimming at different times up til HS. Then, just Football and Track (throwing), then College FB. That was 15yrs ago. Now, Obstacle Course Races, road races, GoRuck.

Pretty much always a sport or 2 that i train regularly in since 5-6years old.soccer,floorball, hockey,rinkbandy cycling and was really good at orienteering(first sport that i started with and did it for about 7-8 years.)

I used to do Judo (and some bjj and wrestling on the side) because its a pretty big thing where I come from. Also got into it in uni, went to some competitions, but I eventualy dropped it.

If you want to be serious about combat sports, you hae to dedicate almost 100% of your time to that. I guess I kind of got burned out, but it stopped being fun and I eventualy quit. Now I just lift.

Not personal experience in combat sport but what u said about having to commit fully is true if you really want to get good.my friend was in top shape and of the best in taekwondo when he was 13-14(he had started with training when he was like 5-6)and he just suddenly stopped when he was 15 years old.just said that it took all his free time.

If you want to be realyl serious you have to train technique at least 4 times a week (though 5-6 is more optimal) and then on top of that you need to lift (especially if, like me, you were in heavier weight categories). Also, don't even get me started on roids in amateur competition.

Like you said, its fun but it literally leaves zero space for othe hobbies and it really impacts your social life.

If you want to medal at high level competitions, sure. Then again, I can walk into most Judo or BJJ places and outperform 90% of those present, and I never got further than 2nd division at the national club championship we used to take part in.

I was a pretty good wrestler and track runner. Ended up still competing in track at college, even though wrestling was probably my better sport I just didn't feel like cutting weight anymore. There was never a better feeling in the world than getting your opponent in legs, throwing a guillotine, causing him excruciating physical pain and embarrassment as you pinned him at a home meet.
