Are professional athletes in pain or mildly sore 24/7?
Somedays I push myself then get some random soreness then the next day I just don't train. These days I always wonder how it would go if I was a professional. Soreness is one thing but imagine real pain. Like for some reason your fuck up your lower back then get a stupid pain that almost won't let you sleep. Next morning you wake up after 4h of sleep then swallow some painkillers and just go train again.
Seriously, any shitty job seems like a better idea than being a pro athlete.
>Are professional athletes in pain or mildly sore 24/7? More or less. That's why you see a lot of then doing all kinds of shit for therapy (ice baths, massage) and rehab. Since many are on roids too, that helps with recovery but not completely
Jayden Flores
go plantbased and never feel pain or doms more then on second day

don't take painkillers
anti inflammatories are as much of a gains killer as is a plantbased diet

>as much of a gains killer as is a plantbased diet what are you, a fat 40 year old meatcuck in denial?

Was on full scholarship for track and XC, so essentially being paid to compete. Not good enough for Olympics but won some races and conference meets. Yes you are in constant pain, but like anything you adjust and get used to it. Mostly diet is the hardest thing to keep up. Slacking on that or eating bullshit made a huge difference. Most people at that level are somewhat genetically gifted in that they don't get injuries from just training. I never had any serious problems long term, not to say I never felt like dying some days from running through sprains or a broken toe one season. Sleep was only a problem in that I was tired all the time and probably slept too much. Immediately fall asleep when head touched the pillow out of exhaustion. After awhile it did seem like a job and sometimes it stopped being fun. But it was the best job I ever had, but also the hardest. It's not for everybody, hence it's so rare.

Everyone seems to have some solution to soreness that they say is the only one that works for them (scooby has rolling, LW and the Mountain have hot-cold baths, Piano has roids). What was yours? Or were you too stupid to find something?
Kevin Thomas
Any runner knows stretching really well after you're run is the only way really to cut down on soreness, but once the season got going and the mileage ramped up soreness wasn't really the issue. It was joint pain. We trained enough that we weren't sore most days especially during mileage tapers. Ice bathes helped, but made you stiff the next day. Running is a different animal from lifting though.
Jaxson Morgan
Well I'm just amateur but last year really tried to increase my mileage and even competed first marathon this year.
I did almost all my sessions as a jogging, barely running and still got joint soreness and foot soreness. I imagine actually increasing the speed and keep for long sessions like 20 km. Also what about nail problems? Sometimes my nails got bad (maybe bad form or shoes too big) then I had to rest for 10 days.
Jacob Barnes
Which youtuber have a plantbased diet as solution to soreness?
Justin Diaz
If Your doing long runs it's all about form. You're probably running too slow to achieve a smooth plant and push that's low impact. Just because you're running slower doesn't mean you're hurting yourself less, in fact it's the opposite. My gliding perfect form pace as slow as I could go without slapping the pavement with my knees was about 6:45 a mile, I never trained any slower than this. But I wasn't running marathons. Even on 10 + mile run days I had to keep my pace at least below 7 min so I wouldn't feel it the next day. Now that's probably a lot faster than you but the point is, run the pace that gives you a smooth glide, and that's probably faster than you're going now. But you'll feel better and get faster.
Austin Scott
Forgot nail soreness. That's just footwear in my experience. Find a shoe that fits better and that should clear up.
Luke Gomez
Is walking still considered low impact based on your post since its the slowest speed possible?
Jace Kelly
Yeah sure dude, whatever.
Oliver Nelson
committing yourself completely to be the best means accepting that you're slowly destroying your body in the process. everything comes with a sacrifice, even doing nothing. the alternative is to let that window pass you by and try to live with yourself knowing you never reached your true potential. that hurts the most.
Shoe websites aren't really informative but I seen some advertise their shoes based on categories like Pronation and Width.
So Pronation would be further separated into Neutral, Overpronate, Severe Overpronate, and Underpronate.
How do you find out this specific info about your feet without going to see a Foot Doctor or have some doctor record and analyze how you run on a treadmill with sensors attached to your foot?
Should you get your feet X-rayed? I know in the very distant past, shoe stores allowed employees to X-ray people's feet when they tried on shoes. Very dangerous, actually.
Just really curious how running shoes get more classifications than the average shoe and how do can you find the proper shoe without paying money for medical advice.
And do runners prefer running shoes 24/7 or do you buy walking shoes as well. What's annoying is that some shoe companies even advertise standing shoes? So it makes you feel like you are forced to buy a shoe for any situation or scenario in your life?

I know professional ballet dancers suffer really fucked up feet and toe damage compared to even pro athletes.
I wonder if that is why ballet dancers are known for smoking and doing drugs.
Isaac Young
It is 04:20 per km and today I run around 5 per km, last year I was probably around 6 minutes per km so maybe thats why I got knee soreness.
Followed the advice to choose a shoe with 1 finger between the big toe and the tip. I feel like it is too big then it rubs back and foward my nails and they get hurt.
Xavier Hernandez
I used to run national level 110m hurdles. No significant soreness i recall aside from the injury which put me out of the sport.

>t. 16 yo fatass browsing Jow Forums for his first week and thinking he figured out life
Do you live by your standards? Tell me about these situations where you destroyed your body instead of accepting anything but the best.
Dominic Sanders
Running shoes should be snug but not tight. Yours sound too loose mate that's not running shoe advice. I wear 13 normal shoe but would always get a 12 running shoe.
Alexander Campbell
Didn't really matter overall, all shoes will kind of conform to your foot after a few miles. True if you pronate really bad better to get a shoe that has more padding on the opposite side, but you fix that with form correction mostly. Stand barefoot and roll your foot as naturally as possible like your walking, if you feel big toe heavy or pinky toe heavy you've got a little drift, but like I said it's no big deal. Buy a shoe that makes your foot as flat as possible. If you're in the middle then you're probably fine. Never knew any serious runners where this was a consistent problem. Like I said you can consciously change your running form on a week or two if you run a lot. Focus on being smooth and flat footed. Adjust your form to follow.
Owen Roberts
Also I would prefer an old pair of trainers loosely tied when not running, most guys on the team were the same.
William Cox
Thanks. I was just remembering an old thread or post and someone mentioning ASICs likes selling shoes based on pronation and wide feet.
As you can see, it seems like all these great shoes are pretty pricey so it would suck to buy them only to hate the shoe and regret buying them.

my neighbor is a retired ballerina, he looks like he still moves around pretty good but they definitely hit a wall at 30 too. smoking is at least in part an appetite suppressant & stress relief probably. it seems like everyone does drugs so who knows. i've been skating for 20 years and the simple reality is that once you reach a certain point, jumping down big shit starts to hurt and then it starts to hurt the day after too, then the next whole week. you grit your teeth and deal with the pain b/c you're not a pussy but this year is the first time where i started having days where i *couldn't* skate. that's why i wanna get stronger.
Hudson Rogers
I was never a huge shoe guy. It's really just trying to sell to enthusiasts with too much money. Find a pair that you like and stick with them. Always remember the guy winning the marathon every year goes barefoot. So forget all that crap you read.
Cameron Cook
kek, forgot about ballerinas. Another profession that seems stupid.
Maybe you need to enjoy being in front of a crowd to keep up with the pain in ballet and sports. In my case I hate this so thats why I would rather work at mcdonalds forever than be a pro. Don't tell me it pays well because the vast majority of athletes and ballerinas will be payed close to the average mcdonalds/retail worker.
Jacob Ramirez
Stuff like ballets need sponsors for ballet dancers to make a living.
If you want to be a pro ballet dancer, you're going to have to move to Europe which has much larger and more active ballet productions than America since the classical music scene still exists more in Europe than in America.
As for athletes, really depends on the sport but many aren't going to get salaries as high as football or basketball players in the big leagues.
If there's an athlete I wouldn't mind being, maybe an Olympic swimmer or an Olympic weightlifter (obviously, a much lower weight class and not desiring to enter the highest weight class possible in the Olympics)
Yeah but it is a fact sports can destroy your body. Olympic figure skaters start retiring once they near a certain age to become skating coaches or just quit the sport forever for example. Skating on ice seems so brutal for your ankles.

Yes, thats why they do so much post game therapy and long specific warm ups to get the muscles going without injuring themselves due to tightness.

Professionals take recovery time seriously, and the ones who don’t ruin their careers with injuries.
John Roberts
It all seems worth it multiple times over to essentially be able to train for a living and constantly pursuing the next goal. I'd love to be a pro athlete.

My gf was on the canada olympic synchronized swimming. She was trying around 40h / week (like a real job) she said it was hard, she was crying on her way to the pool. She didnt like her experience desu
Hunter Brown
I used to train with a dude who made olympic 4x400 team twice. First time he was selected and got a misdiagnosed fractured vertebra (as in it wasnt) and wasnt allowed to run. Second time he tore his hamstring warming up 2 days before the first heat in athens.
He was also training to the degree he couldn't hold a stable job.
Olympics is bullshit unless you're good looking and get loads of sponsorships or you get a medal.

Yeah people get misconception that all Olympics sports earns you a shitload of money or won't carry risk of pretty bad injuries.
In my opinion, I feel like winter sports are more dangerous than summer sports based on the fact that muscles are less prone to injury when they are warm verses cold muscles and winter sports take place in really cold environments.
Here's an Olympic sport that doesn't require too much fitness level.
Basically, air pistols and if you check out the body shapes of the medal winners, some of them really are out of shape middle aged men.

Local pro kickboxer here, there's always some sort of pain to be had, especially when I lie down to sleep, but honestly it's a deaf sort of pain that you live with, kinda like wearing tight shoes or something. Uncomfortable as hell. My left shoulder is in pain 24-7, right foot also but that's because I had an injury a week ago.
