somehow I always manage to fuck some shit up when doing weighted dips

Yes

Based exercise

Same, my old gym had a plate loaded assisted dip machine which set my triceps on fire. Unfortunately theres not much carryover to actual dips, i always fuck my collarbone or shoulders

I'm 85kg and can dip with +30kg for 5 reps

is this any good?

Dipped 3x5 with 10kg for first time today

Perhaps you're doing chest dips on normal dip station?

500 dips a day keeps the doctora away

Yeah, that's pretty good, man. Don't go heavier than 40, it's bad for your kidneys.
I just do 20 but for more reps instead. Doing 3x12 atm.

>be fat and weak
>can't dip for shit
>never use the assisted dip because it feels pathetic
>lost more than 30 lbs
>one of the favorite exercises now, feel like a cylinder in an engine

Same for me with dips and pullups.

I used to do them loads
Now my right shoulder feels way too painful when I do them. It stays sore for a few days after doing just 3x10 dips. Probably internal rotation. What are some fixes for bad shoulder bros? It's eating my gainz

based and autismpilled

No because I legit can't tell how fast or low to go with these. All I see in my gyms are faggots doing what look like super quick half-reps and if that's a proper dip then I ain't doing this shit

down
1 mississippi 2 missippi
up
1 mississippi 2 mississippissiippi

Face pulls my brother. Pay tribute to Jeff.

poorfag here i do them on my cornered kitchen counter almost every day (recent shoulder dislocation so i'm taking longer rests) feels p good man

So do I go about 90 degrees or below? Which one will improve my bench the most?

90 degrees

I remember a Bill Starr article about the carryover to OHP, anyone had any confirming experience?

Where exactly do you place your hands in relation to torso? Same position, slightly back? This positioning shit is what makes me struggle with starting them

Probably not much.
A 3pl8 bench won't guarantee a decent OHP and dips are even less similar to OHPing

t.2pl8 OHP

why don't you just g*ogle chest dips or tricep dips?
much better explanations and visuals

Gee I don't know almost as if this place was to post about fitness and questions related to it from people who have experience with it

enjoy your debilitated and potentially torn pectoralis as well as worn down elbows and shoulders

Hand position will be the same regardless of the dip type, just keep your scapula retracted. What changes the type of dip is the width of bars and foot position

gee, you would get much more precise information just watching a video like this, than trying to visualize written explanations youtube.com/watch?v=wjUmnZH528Y

I'm 130lb so dips are way too easy for me. Problem with adding weight is that I need to add like 30kg to stay in the hipertrophy range, and adding 30kg to a 60kg person shifts the center of mass, and I feel like if my wrist slips, Il curb stomp myself

duct tape the plates to your chest and back

fat

>can bodyweight dip 15-18 times
>can only do 5 reps on a seated dip machine with my own weight

Attached: explain this shit.jpg (259x195, 7K)

i definetly noticed power on overheadpress from decline pressing

shit stretches the efuck out of front delts and makes them stronger

but i go slow and reaaly deep range of motion, as far as my traps allow me

you are seated, power generated dissipates through your butt and feet

try to do 100 dips

or 6 rep sets with weights currently can do 35 kg

You mean piston in the cyllinder?
I miss my fucking marine engines with 3m stroke I don't want to finish this fucking uni and just join the ship. Somebody kill me please rrrreeeeeweee sombody is going to die today reeeee fuck i hate this uni

>bad for kidneys
just get chain on pelvis bone

just use vest

A friendly reminder that you can't kip on a seated dip machine.
A friendly reminder that a certain portion of your arms is out of equation (i'd say up to 60% weight-wise)

i fucked up my spinea dorsi while doing these so i've been off them for a couple months. haha i swear i'll go to physio NEXT week

everybody hates uni, thats sort of the point. they push you to the point of breaking and the weak ones leave. stay on.

Yes, they are my primary pushing movement and pack mass on my chest in no time flat when I'm bulking.

Wanna get to 2pl8 for reps this year.

Dip like a chip
Feels like a good way to end chest day

I have this dip station but it gets annoying when you load 2 plates up because they start banging on the middle section

redpill me on bench squats. good as a progression to actual dips? waste of time? injury fuel?

bench dips***

Injury fuel. Fucks your rotator cuffs. The good part about dips (chest ones) is that it resembles close grip bench as long as you have your arms in front of your torso. Arms behind your torso creates unnecessary stress on your cuffs as it's not a natural movement.

T. Dipping with +55kg. Arguably my favourite exercise

they're fine but I'd say the best progression to parallel bar dips is of course, banded dips and triangle push-ups

Me, but I use the assisted dip machine to get more reps out as I can only do about 10 before I'm drained

I started doing it a week ago, and this shit worked much better than lifting barbells

I still don't have the right technique though, I do it like a retard

Attached: nGYvV.jpg (609x782, 73K)

my right elbow gets a tingle at the end of every rep i think i should stop

yeah I dipped for a good 2 months, went up to 2 pl8s and a half for 3x5 but my shoulder and sternum just said "no", so now I only do bench

Nah my chest caves in on the right side

i can't do a single dip on the assistance machine with the lowest weight on it so like a 10kg dip? is something wrong or is my body broken? 130lbs fatass

im 240 lbs and I can weighted dip 100lbs for 10 reps.

Official thread theme:

remove this jewish filth immediately

That Leia's face if familiar as hell

I always launch my head straight into the pullup bars when dipping on those gay gravitron dual pullup/dip stations.

im 150 and do +100 for reps

m’dippin good

>weighted dips

I did some weighted dips last saturday. I may have neglected my form because I been having a bit of cracking in one of my shoulders.
I don't think I snapped my rotator cuff but still I don't want to force my shoulders for the moment so I'm doing some streching and mobility exercises hoping to get it fixed.

Always remember to watch your form when you do weighted dips. Also don't skip the flexibility and mobility exercises.

shouldn't your lower pecs be the main muscle worked instead of secondary? if not then what is the point of doing dips when you can just do flat and incline bench? i was told that dips is the work out for lower pecs

L sit dips, if those are too hard tuck dips. Ring dips are excellent, keeping the rings together while doing them gives me a pump like cable cross but better

Fat genelet

No, used to by my lower chest was outgrowing upper chest.

Killing myself on incline DB now instead

Currently living in my grandpa's ranch for the summer. How the hell am I going to work on my chest bros?

Do work on the farm asshat

wtf, why is this topic 90 % people saying they've injured themselves?

Are dips worth it if you will never do then weighted?

Carry a baby bull on your back until it's fully grown

(Based and autismpilled)pilled

82kg at 25% bf.
My lifts are weak repping with 70 bench and 40 ohp. Last week I tried doing dips and I barely managed to do 4x4-5 reps. Is it because I'm overweight or just weak in general? I rarely do more than 6 sets of triceps per week too if that counts.

Dips are the workout of the Gods.

5x20. Every time.

He might have a point. I've started doing them and sometimes when I go real deep I feel like I'm going to pop out my collar bone. I guess we must really not go further than pi/2.

Agreed

Put more weight, the weight is assistance not resistance on this machine

Bench press your grandpa

This. I'd like to keep it because it's a compound movement but it is a tricky one.

4 reps is pretty good for your weight I think. Suspiciously so given your bench, you should video yourself doing them to check that you're not doing partial reps. But I could be wrong here.

>wtf are push ups

You can also do dips using two chairs

Beginner here.
Would say 6 sets is enough since you work them already on most of your chest exercices. So the issue is your strength and/or weight.

Push heavy things around, do push-ups/dips, go cow tipping, get creative nigga.

>yfw you got a gnarly chest and tri pump after a high rep set

If you're 60kg worry less about what you're doing in the gym and more about in the kitchen

does anybody get crazy shoulder pain when doing dips?

I can do about 5 then a massive pain starts up in my left shoulder for some reason on the 6th rep.

i can do 5x5 with strict form now

how do i progress? whats the max amount of reps before i get a belt and hang weights off my dick

Attached: pepecoffee.png (400x333, 91K)

yeah that's good man.

3pl dip crew checking in

Every chest/tri day bro. We dont have belts so i'm using 10kg dumbell between legs

>tfw separated shoulder and can't do dips or will make it even worse

Attached: 1555972441440.gif (498x490, 1.58M)

What's the cue to know when you're low enough before pushing up?

buy a bench and some weights, dumbbells or barbell and a set of rings do ring dips, get a dip built and link up some plates to do weighted ring dips

How come the first rep hurts so much then the rest are easy as fuck? Doesn't matter what weight I use it's always the same.

I thought you never wanted to go all the way up like the first picture in the OP?

Don't you keep your shoulders back, your head down, and don't go all the way up? These fuck your shoulders up if you do them wrong.

Any downers?
youtube.com/watch?v=Q8xjeft2ydQ

usually do 5x10-12 with +55lbs @ 165 b.w, gives a decent chest pump

12-15 is probably as high as you should ever go

I've noticed the first is by far the hardest and once I let go and relax, I feel it all at once.

Just started exercising, so too weak for dips. But I am doing negatives to bring me up to speed. Gotta say, you can definitely feel the burn when doing them
