Home gym vs Normal Gym
Pro and Cons
Debate
If I had the place for a squat rack, bench, and some free space to do DLs and rows, a home gym would be much much better than a regular gym.
No hours, no monthly cost (sure there's an initial investment), no other people, no need to be quiet, I don't have to commute to the gym. It's just much better.
The only pro of normal gym is gym thots.
Home gym is superior in every aspect. The only thing you lose is that security net where if you snap your shit and live alone you're fucked. At last at a gym someone will be there to help you not die.
Fair enough, but they wont fuck you anyway
I mean, you could just lift with a friend, or do it lighter for more and slower reps, or use support pads/metals to not let the weight destroy your fucking body
I used to work out at home but going to the gym and seeing other people (bodybuilder types etc as well as fat/chubby) makes me more motivated. It's a bit like studying at home or the library, when you see other people working harder it makes you try harder
I have bought the equipment to start my homegym. Most of it has arrived but I'm overseas. I can't wait to go home now.
I'm sick of sharing equipment with dickheads, Sick of the high monthly costs, sick of the shitty music.
Most importantly my current gym Anytime Fitness has fucked up and taken $1500 out of my account by accident and they haven't given it back after 2 months, so now I'm going through court to get it back
I wish they would
Investing in a home gym was one of the best decisions in my entire life.
Home gym master race reporting in.
Negative
- No chicks to look at
- initial cost ($1,000 if you want a good but basic setup)
Positive:
- Choose your own fucking music
- Can do something quick if you don't have the time
- No waiting or having to rush because someone is waiting on the machine
- Do what you want. Do you want to use chalk? Lift naked? Whatever, you can do it.
>Home gym is superior in every aspect.
if you actually calculate the cost of home gym compared to regular gym membership it's the other way around
Still got over 3 years until my investment will pay off but i want to kill myself next year (not to mention that im lacking a lot of equipement)
Pros
-Not having to wait on equipment or working in
-No membership payments
-No broscience dipshits bothering you
-No boomers in the bathroom/showers
-Reduced risk of bacterial infection or virus
-Reinforced discipline, no thots or gym bros, just your own mettle vs. the iron
>Blast whatever music you want
>Work out in just boxers or naked
Cons:
-Loss of social aspect
-No thot test boost
-Shitposting between sets on nearby laptop
-Laughing about shitposts in between sets
What a bunch of faggots holy shit user, why thefuck are you giving your bank account to a gym
Upfront cost and sometimes total cost of a normal gym is much lower.
Normal gyms can be social and a good place for advice from long time members, although not all gyms are like this.
Often it's harder to push yourself when you are all alone. It can be done but it's not for everyone.
All of the above aren't guaranteed in a normal gym. It's all about the quality of people there and the environment which you prefer.
>Just started my home gym but still go with a bro to normal gym a couple days a week.
The only pro of normal gym is:
some machines for complementary exercises like a leg press/leg curl machine.
standard in europe
you give them the right to credit the monthly fee from your account.
That's a con
Thats fucking retarded, i never heard of this before hope you cunt win
based
Why calling me a cunt?
That is pretty common for any kind of service you pay regulary.
Home gym only has two downsides:
>Need to live in a home with enough space (not an apartment)
>difficult to move
>-Shitposting between sets on nearby laptop
>-Laughing about shitposts in between sets
So much this. Jow Forums is the ultimate gaingoblin.
I'm australian you pleb
As much as I would love a home gym itd must be such a bitch to move to another residency
But you don't give your account details to the gym?
What gym do you go to mate? Only times I don't have to is when I pay in advance per visit which is fucking expensive.
A simpel one, i only pay 98 and i get free shower and thats it.
You really should win that thing and get yourself a home gym with those moneys.
At home gym, I do exercises that actually work best for me. Certain glutes exercises, band work, etc. At the gym I feel pressure just to do "normal" lifts that I don't get as much out of.
Also you can work out whenever you want without waiting. No such thing as 5 pm rush, just a 5 pm workout wih your supper 50 feet away.
The feeling that you want others to be around to push you goes away after a year. Now I'm accustomed to working out alone my own way. Im going do professional grad program so I'll have to go back to the gymbro faggots lifestyle but you bet your ass I'm going back to a garage gym afterwards.
Also don't put a gym in a carpeted room meant for an office or guest bedroom. That's retarded.
Based
Fuck off. Europe isn't a country. I'm from a proper country and we don't do that shit.
Cons: It's easier to be distracted by other things while you are at home. When you go to the gym that's your sole focus. Abit like working from home vs going to your job. Only a con if you lack discipline.
Prob a mutt
I will win. I'm going through Fair Trading Australia. 98 a month is fucking crazy expensive dude.
I've already spent $2k on a home gym setup. I'm not strapped for cash I'm just pissed that they admitted they were wrong but only offered me back $800 and a free year of gym. I want the fucking money.
Proper European country I meant. I pay my membership by card
After so many years of lifting, you will lack motivation and pacients to go to a gym.
The pro of commercial gyms is the grills and to an extent the amount of different equipment. Otherwise I guess it's home gym that's better
o wow
fucking kek
Wait like actuall kys? Why would u plan on it
Gym is the only time I leave my house so I kinda enjoy it
Get a job you fucking retard and go out more
goin to gym at 3 am master race checking in
no
starts in august
As a burger software developer for an international provider i can tell you that direct debit is indeed a european thing u stupid faggot
I do both ; have some pretty basic stuff at home but can still do the big 3. ceilings too low for OHP but have some some autist shit carried all the stufff outside and did them in the backyard. membership gym is 30 a month, a 'hardcore' place and a mile from home...but crowded, i find myself doing a bit more at home at first i barely used it. the lack of motivation/thots can be an issue but otherwise its pretty sweet, i can do laundry or something in between sets
Not here
How can a barbell/cage/bench/weights cost you 3 years worth of gym membership? No wonder you want to off yourself (you probably shouldn't though mate).
What I love the most about a normal gym is I feel like I’m part of the world. I’m already craving human interaction from my lack of friends and just being around people is better then working out in my garage.
Why is it so hard to make friends and why do I fuck up every friendship I’ve ever had?
not him but:
20€ x 36 months is 720€
that's the price for equipment that lasts a life long and is not the cheapest kind of it.
of course you can do it way cheaper, yes.
>going to college
>not getting a labor job and lifting in your free time
Never gonna make it
Yeah I just estimated it based on my local prices and got roughly the same thing. I don't see why anyone would pay retail for new equipment instead of buying used. There's usually quite a lot of people trying to get rid of dumbbells/barbells/plates/benches.
What sort of backwards country are you in that you don't have direct debit?
Home gym:
Cons-
1. Requires enough space to set up
>Duuurrre it's not that much space
Listen sweetie, not everyone lives in Hicksville. I spend $4k a month on a 1000 sq ft apartment. What effective "membership" rate would I be paying to sacrifice a substantial portion of the space to a home gym? Also the floors are not going to handle this shit in an apartment building upper level
2. Math only really works if you're staying in hicksville
So you buy the weights and cardio machine...and then you need to move in a year or two. Oh shit. Now you've got the cost and hassle of getting a big ass moving truck. Or it turns out you'll be moving to a real city and won't have space for a gym so you'll have to dump it.
home gym pros:
>no roasties
>have your computer to shitpost on between sets
cons:
>no roasties
>spend too long shitposting between sets
>willingly paying a lot of money to live in a dirty and noisy shithole made of concrete, stacked on top of other people like ants
Why would you spend 4k a month on something you will never own? 4k a month in hicksville will buy you 6,000 square feet and 100 acres, and possibly the equipment necessary to turn a profit. I don't think you have made the right choices in life.
I'm a 5 minute walk from my planet fitness. I don't know why pf gets so much shit when it's the easiest place to mog people.
good on you user
I'm a member right now, its on my way home and to my office so its perfect. I'll be building a home in a small community next year so I'll need to get a home gym set up because the nearest one will be 10 miles away. I've thought about opening a gym because the area is underserved, but I don't think I have the financial ability to do that at present.
you're retarded if you think paying a ton for an apartment is something worth bragging about, and that anyone is considering a home gym for an apartment.
See I pay a fuck ton for an apartment but I can't wait until I can move out and get a nice house in hickville and a home gym.
No worries user, you'll get that nice house in hicksville. Funny thing is, the name of the town I'm moving to is only a few letters away from hicksville.
I don't know why user spends 4k a month on something he'll never own and then he can't afford to hire movers.
that's a con retard
>hicksville
what a fucking cope
I think public gym can be more motivational and competitive but home gym might save time (if you're serious and disciplined to not waste time). Also you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, like Bugenhagen with home gym. You can have a good arm pump every day.
Why are city bugmen like this?
based
Only real pros of a normal gym are a vast selection of machines which can be nice to switch up accessories, and gym thots who sometimes can be a negative tho when I can't focus on lifting because of tfw no gf
>squatting/benching without safeties
in a home gym safeties are pretty common
If you are going this far to invest in a home gym get a squat rack with safety bars that catch the weight so you dont kill yourself. It works like a champ.
What would be the most minimal home gym set up?
Can I just get by with a set of adjustable dumbbells?
What would I be missing?
I came to post this. Everyone needs a motivational boost now and then.
Wow, $4k a month and you still let Jow Forums live in your head rent free.
You forgot a big one: No driving to gym
Spending 10-15 min one way to the gym is a huge motivation killer. Travel time, gas money, the hassle itself of driving all add up when you're doing it every day.
I just recently joined the home gym master race and the biggest pro for me is saving time on the drive and never again working out without earphones or having to drive home if you forgot them. I save 20 mins a day on commute which equals 5.5hrs a month. If you have a circle of friends who workout then its better to get a gym membership.
your body
My local gym is filled with niggers and arabs so home gym was a no brainer. I kind of wish I could have fun social interactions at a gym. I sometimes invite a liftingbro but it's just not the same.
Home Gym
>no monthly fee
>whatever work out naked
>have control over the audio
>lets you get creative
>porn between sets
Public Gym
>cable machine
+ Scream like an autistic retard when pumping out that lass rep. I get weird looks at the commercial gym
Wish I had a home gym so I could drop weight if I can't get that last rep on bench. I'd definitely push for more more often at home.
I feel like an ass if I have to (rarely) do it at the gym, and I don't like asking randoms for spots.
Public gym
>strengthmog the fuck out of everyone in there with VOLEM-tier lifts to feel better about myself
Planet Fitness
They've got a bucket of tootsie rolls at the front desk and I get pizza and bagels
pro: at home you can workout shirtless/naked and look at yourself in the mirror during your workout, which is a better motivator than thots or other dudes in the gym
that is a con, they are distracting as fuck
I'll take your equipment when you kys if you want. Where do you live? What stuff you got?
My home gym is currently 92F because of a heat wave here in cali. That’s the only drawback. I’m gonna binge shop some more gym goodies, any recommendations?
No way you're moving to Cocksville too?!
I have my own home gym (webm related). I also have an active black card membership to planet fatness
my opinion is home gyms are best but should be seen as a long term investment. I pay $20 a month to planet fatness and at other gyms have paid upwards to $40-50 a month. That's up to $600 a year. Your basic home gym (power rack, incline bench, 300lb olympic weight set) only costs $500-600 new and will last you all your life if you take care of it. I didn't build my gym over night. I've been accumlating equipment for almost 10 years and have had full sized power racks to this little half rack you see in my webm. Unless you own your own house or plan to stay somewhere for awhile don't go too big because moving it sucks and if you have to sell anything to make room for a smaller place you will cry at how fast gym equipment devalues.
Most home gyms are basic as fuck. The people who are luckily enough to have hammer strength machines in their gym are people who own their own homes and have invested a fuck-ton of money. If you enjoy a good hammer-strength weight machine you likely aren't going to touch one again if you have your own home gym.
I also enjoy going to planet fatness on my rest days and doing some cardio or some fluff n pump workouts. I'm normally the biggest dude there, lots of girls that are out of my league, in my league and below my league so I enjoy the attention. It's cheap ($20 is nothing for the tanning included, hydrobed and unlimited access to any planet fitness in the country).
>>have your computer to shitpost on between sets
there's nothing better than watching gook cartoons between sets
>take as long as you want
>rest as long as you want
there's a titan plate loaded cable machine for $150 if you have studs you can drill into
Holy shit clean that glass
i think that's pretty much it.
I'm thinking of investing in a cable machine next.
Holy fuck retard buy your own house/condo if you can afford 4K a month rent. That's just shy of a million dollar house for a 30 year mortgage. You're flushing 48k a year down the drain
Home gym for convenience. My #1 priority is my family and I also own several businesses so my schedule is pretty tight. Having a home gym makes it really easy to squeeze workouts into my day rather than waste time traveling to a different location to do the same thing. My workouts at commercial gyms also seem to take longer due to having to share equipment.
>They wont fuck you
>Get blue balls
>Hoes
Sucks to be you loser kek S w e e t i e
Do you even lift?
>literally W A S T I N G 50k a year on rent for a shithole apartment
>calls others retarded
Thats cool user
i wish i could have a home gym, but my apartment is so fucking small that i would have to sell my tv, couch, and dinning table just to fit it all in
