Hey /fit, give me tips on how to progress pullups...
add weight
do pullups
repeat
>100 reps unassisted
You know top tier athletes have a hard time doing this in excellent shape right? Have a realistic goal you dumb fat bitch.
Fair enough
When i was working towards 10 pull ups i would do them everyday at ghe beginning of workouts, inbetween sets, on my way to the fountain, after workouts. Literally just did a bunch and went from 2 to 10 in like 2 months
Should i go straight for pullups or should i start with chinups?
You do realize that there's no way you will ever do 100 clean pull ups, right? You'll end up swinging like mad to get 100 crossfit pull ups just so you can say "I did 100." At that point if you care that much about lifting your own body you might as well just dedicate yourself to climbing and get it over with.
neutral grip, then normal pullups
Can you not do one? I did regular pull ups, theres this muscles on the forearm that doesn't get hit with chins and it's pretty important for pull ups, i did a lot of lat pull down too but used a narrower grip, like a grip you would use on a pull up bar.
Neutral grip is a good, hits that forearm part
This. Give up on 100 btw. If you can do 20+ at your weight then you already pullmog 99.99999% of people
This.
I would recommend the Armstrong Pull-Up Program. It got me from 0 to 12 bw pull-ups in about five months. It has an advanced version if you manage to do 5x8 minimum.
Don't use leg/ab momentum at all. I did this for the longest time and was my own gains goblin. Keep your legs and toes pointed down slightly infront of you for the entire movement
The no bullshit best way to get good at pullups is to do them a fucking lot. Every day, multiple times a day try to bust out a few. If you can't do anything do negatives until you can. Assisted pullups are being your gains goblin, you need to adapt your body to pulling your full bodyweight. Do deadhangs. If you really need something easy unassisted do inverted rows.
t. 3x5 +95lb pullups at 205lbs
You can only do 5 pull-ups?
To elaborate: pullups are an exercise that you gotta struggle through. I used to not be able to do a single one, now I'm hitting 4x5 with a 45 and some chains (love the mires I get when the chains come out)
Start with negatives if you can't go any longer, then once you can hit 10, add some weight until you're hitting 5. Then do that until you can do the weight for 10. Then add more. It's the same as any exercise in terms of progressive overload.
I do 5 reps of 90lbs weighted. Just got here. Feels good man. Plus gym buddy (girl) roots me on and pushes me
Nothin better than hangin up there like Tarzan man. I think i'll try adding a 10 with the 45 and the chains next back day.
With 95 attached
Definitely do it. Just make sure to not do it before shoulder day.. it kills those a bit if you go up really fast in weight. I have been pushing hard on back recently and Doms set in quick the next day. But been adding more to my normal 3 sets has been helping
Based bros. It's my best lift by quite a bit and man you really do get a lot of dumbfounded stares. Makes me feel a little better when I get bench mogged.
the chains get the gains
I think the world record for strict pullups is around 50, I'm sorry user but I think you should reconsider your goal.
But to progress with pullup assist them less and less and work in 6-8 rep range 3x week.
Anopther ambitious but atteinable goal : progress until you can add weight and then continue this path with weighted pullups until you can do assisted one-arms and progress until you can do weighted one-arms.
Don't use the assisted machine you don't train half your back.
Better to do negatives (grab the bar and complete the downward motion from the top) until you can do chin-ups and then actual pull ups (chin ups are easier because you use more bicep).
After that google greasing the groove and say hello to tendonitis, it's worth it though.
t.couldn't do one pull up this time last year now in double digits finally
