Muscle retention is a meme. Fasting is a meme. You learn no self discipline or coping skills so once you are done fasting you'll just put all the weight back on because you only learned how to either eat nothing (fast) or eat everything (refeed), and nothing in between. After every meal you'll crack and binge because your body is used to you eating thousand calorie meals or nothing at all, so a normal 400cal meal will feel like hell.

Fasting is only a meme if you do it for intervals. It's meant to be a lifestyle change not a "lose weight quick" diet. You're supposed to never stop intermittent fasting once you've started it. I've been doing it for about 2 years now and not eating for 16 hours comes naturally to me. Yea, I have my cheat days here and there but for the most part the hunger doesn't bother me and it becomes less about discipline and more about routine.
As for the results? No, you still need to be responsible with what you eat if you want to see changes. Fasting might help with the mindset for dieting but by itself I don't think it helps you lose weight. Eating at a caloric deficit makes you lose weight. It's not a deficit if you binge eat whatever the fuck garbage in your feeding period.
