Many tomboyish girls also have short hair and are projected that way at least in different mediums (eg. vidya, movies, etc). Additionally, one of the few girls that I was fairly distant friends with had short hair and was quite tomboyish. She was also one of the few women I felt somewhat comfortable being alone with and one of the few I developed a crush for. I am probably projecting my desires when I see women that look like that.
