Age of consent is a dangerous legal construction that doesn't really mean anything. For example, in Japan (as a whole country) the age of consent is 14 - except this is overridden in every single prefecture by prefecture law which puts it at 20 in most places, the legal age of adulthood in Japan. Same shit in some, but not all, European countries, and in many US states. Sometimes "consent" just means if the parents of the legal non-adult approve or not, which can change on a whim. Many places also have so-called Romeo and Juliet laws where it doesn't apply if both individuals are under legal age, in order to not prosecute high school couples.

It's all a huge clusterfuck and there needs to be a global uniform legal age dropped a few years i reckon
