The gastrocnemius is primarily a fast twitch muscle, do this:
Straight leg calf raise: 5x5, 3min rest, explosive concentric, 1 second pause and squeeze at the top, 3 second eccentric, 2 second pause at the bottom. Go heavy on the weight.

The soleus is primarily a slow-twitch muscle, do this:
Bent knee calf raise: 3-4X8-10, 60-90 second rest, 2 second concentric, 1 second pause at the top, 2 second eccentric, 2 second pause at the bottom. Make it burn.

Twice per week.
