Buy cheaper cuts of meat (pork shoulder, beef brisket), buy whole chicken instead of just breasts, it’s usually cheaper as well. Canned tuna, sardines or mackerel are great and cheap as chips. Cheese, skyr, quark, cottage cheese, hemp seeds, almonds.

Is meat actually that expensive? Where I live I can get 1kg of Kangaroo for $11 which lasts 2-3 days... add into that meal some rice and veges that's like 15-20$ for 2-3 days of food

I did the protein-math yesterday, when I read I'm not eating enough of it. I'm trying to cut currently, so -500kcal. But everyone keeps saying to also eat 1g Protein per lbs bodyweight. For me that's 283g of protein per day?!
The only possible way I was able to come up with, was eating 2,6L of Skyr everyday. That's exactly 500kcal deficit and 283g of protein. But how do I survive that much yoghurt every day?!

Chicken is dirt cheap when you buy it less processed. Hell the grocery stores always have those 10lb bags of chicken quarters on sale for $3.99, that's a good 8lbs of meat for $0.50/lb.

Pork shoulders and pork butts always go on sale for $1.29/lb. And most big retailers will have pot roasts on sale BOGO and work out to about $3/lb


On top of this look in your area for ethnic food stores. If you're strapped for cash DO NOT even think about stepping foot in a big name store until you've hit the ethnic shops

Asian stores have great prices on huge bags of rice as well as fish and pork.

Latino centric markets will have raging deals on bulk spices and chicken, sometimes beef at good prices. Their cuts tend to be much different than you'll find in a grocery store.

And finally Ethiopian and African grocery stores will have great every day prices on goat and chicken meat, and grain staples.

I'm not in a position to be considered strapped for cash, but the ethnic stores are where I do the vast majority of my shopping. It's just straight up cheaper and most of them are family owned hard working sons of bitches like me who deserve my money more than the megacorps.

If you're in a very diverse city then the ethnic stores will more closely match the market for classic grocery markets. I.e. brands and prices due to the higher market capitalization and larger population of ethnics who have scaled the income ladder.

Find the smaller family owned grocery stores. Stereoptypically in smaller commercial strip mall properties in lower income or stagnant growth areas. You may just have to get into your car and drive through some areas and keep an eye out. 3 of the 4 ethnic stores I frequent Google Maps had no idea they existed.
