Well with my very limited history of interacting with women i can say that would be the moment they would grab me by the arm and drag me around school to walk with them against my will to use me a weapon to inflict jealousy on another friend of hers. I was 9 to 10 years younger than them at the time

speaking just from my perspective, i dont even notice ugly unpopular people unless they are doing something particularly unsuual or look dangerous.
if you can muster the courage, try and talk to them or ask one out. or atleast show you have interest in them.
its scary yes, and feels bad to make someone else uncomfortable.
1) rejection is like a bandaid, get over your crush
2) it steels you for future pursuits
3)unless the women was an uber bitch to begin with, she won't hold it against you that you found her attractive if you accept the rejection
4) you might have success
5) dont know your scenario, going to assume highschool or uni, so its a bit different than real world, if it was the real world i'd say women do not want to draw attention from undesirables because they may try to interact with them.

I'm a shut in neet.
I like to take long walks, and also sometimes i go to job interviews.
Very often i notice girls "checking me out", in rare cases they even smile at me.
Since i consider myself average, i'm not really sure whether they are interested or they are just smiling and looking at me because i'm doing something retarded / look weird.
For example, today i was using public transportation to get to an interview. A girl was that was standing near me spent almost the whole time staring at me. And i really don't know if she was eye fucking me, or thing "wow this weirdo is such a fucking loser".
