I occasionally manage to do it for 5 min but reading western minds who talk about this eastern way has thought me a lot.

I listen to Mike Sealey’s guided meditations on YouTube before sleeping. Honestly has given me more control over my thinking and allows me to push thoughts of my ex out of my head when they arise instead of ruminating

Once maybe every two months is a good time to take 3.5-4.5 grams of mushrooms and meditate. It is especially fun with a friend or gf.

You will feel like a million dollars when you come out of it.

Any tips on how to optimise the experience?
Music to listen to, places to go etc.

I did vipassana meditation which is like a Buddhist awareness meditation.

These guys do 10 day courses where u can’t talk lol. Really worth it though.

In a nutshell, it’s applied stoicism. It gives you the tools to interpret the conditions which affect the mind. This it’s name, which means insight meditation

It doesn't work.

Meditation is popular in failed cultures.

Just sleep more to reduce stress and think logically.

for your first time do it with somebody you are really comfortable with in an environment you are really comfortable in

watch Ghibli movies and listen to music that makes you happy

You will gain more important insight into the world by seeing it than you will sitting around with your eyes closed.

Meditation is 75% a meme.

bumping for interest

I meditate to astral project and become one with god.

It depends on what you wanna do. Taking the time to reflect on your day is amazing. Also if you were abused as a child (spanking counts, incels) you have less gray matter in the brain which makes it harder to remember dreams. Meditation can offset this.
This is also a good option

I recommend it, as it teaches you to empty your mind and be calm in a moments notice.
In these times of constant overstimulation, a valuable skill.
I suck at keeping it consistent though, I forget to do it more days than I do it.

Tips on becoming more regular with it?

>How many of you guys meditate?
I don't regularly do it anymore but there were times where I did 20 mins a day at least for weeks.

>Would you recommend it?
Yeah, it's a nice experience and I feel like it definitely trains the art of paying attention to things. You're much more present in a weird way. You also become much more aware of what's happening internally and you rather quickly get this insight that the part of you that's conscious doesn't seem to be in charge of anything in your mind. There's all kinds of other minor insights.

>Any interesting side effects you have experienced?
I once had the experience of feeling as if I watched the world through my forehead rather than my eyes. But I wouldn't go chasing these feelings. Some people are really obsessed with third-eye experiences and shit, but that's rare and kinda missing the point imo. Instead, use it to know yourself, be at peace, train attention, those kind of things.

>music to listen to
To be honest, if you're going to listen to music then you should probably just use that as your object of meditation (try to completely direct all your attention towards it) or just leave music out of it, because it's only going to distract you otherwise. I think meditation on music can be fun and relaxing in the moment, but I do feel like it has less effects that stay, probably because it's much easier (to pay attention to the music than to the breath) so you train less.
If you're going to meditate on music (and use that as your focus point, not as a background) I'd recommend either something complex but not aggressive, like some classical music: youtube.com/watch?v=rEGOihjqO9w because it has a lot to pay attention to. Or if you want to calm down choose like a hymn or neopagan choir music or something.

> places to go
Some quiet place. Nature is nice but I don't like the idea that people can creep up on me so I usually just do it in my bedroom. Try to minimize distractions.

Which cultures are failed?

Please don’t respond to bait

I CANNOT FUCKIG MEDIATTE EVERY TIME I DO IT I WANNA FUCKING KILL MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE OR BREAK SOMETHING IT'S SO FUCKING INFURIATING TO BE ON YOUR OWN WITH YOURSELF AND REALIZE WEAKNESS OF YOUR CONCIOUSNESS OVER YOUR MIND AND BODY. I CANNOT EVEN FUCKING SIT STRAIGHT.
There is no hope for me at this point.

I ENVY EVERY ONE OF YOU MEDITATORS SO MUCH, BECAUSE I USED TO BE ABLE TO MEDITATE AND FEEL SOME KIND OF TRANQUILITY.

Take time to figure out why you're so scared and angered to be by yourself.

You gain insight on yourself through meditation.

It has saved, me. Not even joking. I practice every other day for an hour straight. Vipassana meditation
I attained stream entry a year and a half ago.
I'm going to Burma this summer to a Theravada temple, to meet the one who taught me.

There's just no words to describe this.
Those who say it doesn't work really have no idea what they're talking about.

Try this for the time being
www.vipassanadhura.com/index.htm

Because I cannot be comfortable being still in any of positions except lying down or slouching in an armchair. I feel fucking inferior, because I'm always tense whenever I sit or stand. And because of lack of distractions this discomfort amplifies x100 and I cannot help but scream and punch walls.

I refuse to believe most people can't really empty their minds and "live on the present" for themselves. Do you really need someone branding it as meditation/mindfulness and "teaching" it to you? I've done it since I was a child without even knowing about it, and I bet most introverted and emotionally stable people do it instinctively as well

Sitting still in any pose, even in a chair, makes me nauseous after half a minute. But it wasn't always like that. I should try again or kill myself. Wish me luck.

Bumping

Then do it lying down. Make yourself comfortable to practice at first then slowly work on your posture.

it's great for stress/anger management and helps me sleep a lot better. highly recommend

it's not "emptying your mind" you fucking moron. It's about observing thoughts and feelings, not ceasing to have them.

So you lack discipline. Keep practicing and dont be a neanderthal about it when you struggle. Literal child like behavior

Try qi gong or some other type of moving meditation first then

there a different kinds of meditation angry user. most commonly people try to focus on their breath and dismiss distracting thoughts. you're right about the observation part, you can't just grit your teeth and make thoughts go away, you have to observe and reorient

>I refuse to believe most people can't really empty their minds and "live on the present" for themselves
Perhaps your mind was empty to begin with, but I have a hard time living in the present when there are so many interesting thoughts to consider.

Good luck bro, be patient.
You're focusing too much on the physical aspects if you're getting nauseous

i'd rather take a nap
meditating is retarded

I did a 10 day and a 3day course. Kinda went insane during the first one (I thought they were a cult and were gonna sacrifice me in the forest), the second one I almost went insane again lmao, but the moment you come out of these courses you feel amazing. Can recommend it as well.
10 day courses are free (donation based) and they feed you and everything.. but don't go into it thinking it'll be a chilled out vacation.. it's 12 hours a day of meditation. Hard core work, honestly.
