Let's talk about old school body building vs modern body building

I was wondering how turn of the century body builders and strongmen trained and got their physiques, and looking up how Sandow trained, it seems amazing to me that, when you look at the kind of advice people give today, that this kind of physique was apparently built without squat, or deadlifts, or bench press, and by using mainly dumbbells.

Have any of you guys ever attempted hat style of body building? How did it you think compare with your typical modern split?

This is how

I would be much more interested in his diet

>wrist flextors
>rotators
Tbh thats pretty legit. Not enough people work them

Im very interested in old school lifting, ive completely swapped bench with ohp and have seen less (no shoulder pain now) and much better shoulder mobility, delt size and trap size

how much weight this nigga using?

I just realized he is all core and very little everything else. I bet he didn't look big with clothes, so faggots were right? Abs is all you need except the bigger the better?

Did people have roids back then or they all natty?

Natty. Obviously they had access to drugs that are now illegal but synthetic steroids didn't exist back then. Jow Forums has a poor understanding of how muscular someone can get without roids.

>wrist exercise

Should I be working out my underarms/wrists? If os how?

>let’s do everything worse
You wouldn’t be asking about how they did medicine back then - why would you ask about how they lifted back then?

Reverse dumbell curls and hammer curls.

Oop i meant wrist curls not hammer curls. Jeffy boy on youtube has videos on them.

Not as old school as sandow but does anyone have good resources on Gironda style training and his thoughts on proportions etc
I dont care for the hundreds of articles and videos by other people, there must be some archive of his own stuff somewhere

David Bolton Lost Secrets of a great body goes into detail on this. It iswritten by a modern author that actually used the methods and "translated" the most important parts.

so did this guy really only use dumbbells or were there some exercises he used barbells for?
Also what was his diet like? Meat, eggs, milk, and potatoes?
was most likely better quality than the stuff available today

Because you can look at his physique and clearly tell that whatever he did, it worked for him.

Medicine is a different beast altogether because you can judge by mortality rates and longevity how medicine has improved.

So, if the old school routines built good physiques, how can you really say they are worse than modern routines?

This is what is book reccomends, yeah. I'm not sure, though, if this is his version of like "a beginner routine" or what because this routine is fucking retarded. His book was meant to be a health advice type thing, and I read it myself a few years back and was a little confused by it.

i’ll give you a hint OP: cocaine was sold in corner stores
aside from that, sandow is my goal body.

Yes that was his diet, but apparently he stayed lean by way of doing a shit-ton of cocaine, so maybe don't follow his diet to a T.

No way he'd give away his own secrets, the book was for the general public to improve health and strenght.

What drugs?

Cocaine

20 pound dumbbells and body weight i think

Its on the chart bro

I have two days out of my week that I give up to Sandow-type work. I pick weight I can do for a difficult 20 reps, and do five sets with 60 second rest, for a total of 100 reps.
I'm pretty blasted by the end, but I've gotten good results in terms of size increase since adding it to my routine. Shit for strength training, tbqh, but I have the other four days for that.

There's a pdf flying around on the net where some nerd re-created Sandow's system. Can't find it right now but his aesthetics gains were pretty impressive. He didn't test his strength though IIRC.

It's less modern lifting and more mind-muscle connection and muscle control. The light dumbbells are just used as help to get the contraction, you can do it without them.

That's the one. Pic related, only Sandow style training at around 40 years old IIRC.

And keep in mind he only used like 4 lbs dumbbells to get those gains. No roids, no dieting.

Squats and deadlifts are a meme, they are no better than isolation, and they give you the risk of serious long-term injury

Wont be relevant anymore, today we have shit food injected with steroids and grow-fast-chemicals.

How did he balance that leaf on his peepee?

I only use dumbbells my body and a bed, I look like this except I have fucking twink genetics and no abs

>Yes that was his diet, but apparently he stayed lean by way of doing a shit-ton of cocaine, so maybe don't follow his diet to a T.
well, now that you mentioned it its one way to get the gym skanks to come work out with you

Back then testosterone levels were much, much higher. No birth control pills making women piss out estrogen into the water supply, no plastic fucking with everything, no artificial hormones in the meat, no real porn, no constant social emasculation, no sense that your entire society was rotting...

This is a huge factor. even grandpas from back in the day had higher T levels than the onions b0ys of today.

this is such a stupid post, you make it sound as though everyone's test levels are lower for a bunch of infowars-tier reasons when in actuality the avg is lower because so many people are overweight and sedentary.

Ironically, the phytoestrogens found in soi, and in shit that you eat or drink such as beer, are preventing estrogen absorbtion. You're getting memed if you avoid them. Probably by the jews.

I'm not shitting on him - he does look aesthetic as fuck - but when you break it down his physique isn't that impressive. It's literally just low bf, without the abs he would look completely unimpressive

Get out of here with your logic and reasoning. Disgusting of you to try to drag that bogus across my Jow Forums

True of soi, not of hops.

Absolutely based physique, I even think the smaller pecks look aesthetic as fuck

This whole blog is a goldmine

Studies consistently show obesity only accounts for ~20% of the drop in T levels

His measurements.
