I have a little bit of tinnitus, where I can only notice in complete silence.
Smoking a cigarette amplifies it to the point where I can hear it much louder (maybe a blood pressure thing?).
This is a blessing as it makes me realize how bad it could be, so now I always turn my headphones down and NEVER crank up the bass.

Seconding this user. Not a joke, it can be really rough. Take care of your ears, avoid blasting in-ear buds specifically. Get yourself quality over-ear headphones so you don't need to blast em to hear your tunes.

Also invest in professional earplugs (not that expensive) for when you see live music.

you can get custom made earplugs for about $100, they are infinitely better than the foam ones as they filter the sound (as opposed to only muffling it)
ER-15 are the way to go for live concerts (for both musicians and attendees). It just sounds like someone turned down the volume a bit so you can actually hear what's going on around you more clearly

Sometimes I'm annoyed at the headphone guys blasting their shit music so loud the whole bus is like a club, but then I'm comforted by what's coming to them. It's sad how many young adults have fucked their hearing in their teens just by not caring.

Tinnitus is horrible but nothing to kill yourself over. He was in IT so he probably was sad and alone, and that's what killed him.

for me it started as a buzzing sound i could only hear at night then it got worse by a series of events but if you have it now it means you should take care of it cos its easy for it to get worse once you already have it.

forgot to answer to the second question, I can hear mine all the time even in the street. For some time specially after a new sudden worsening i feel like killing myself but then it gets better over time. It usually takes a month or two. I can say right now I dont wann akill myself lol hwich is more than i could say some months ago.

Some ass hat when I was a teenager popped a party popper next to my head, I couldn't hear a thing for 4 minutes and was flipping out.

There's always a slight ringing in my ears but it doesn't bother, I just always have noise on something if I can.

Worst yet for a while I made music (for vidya, animation, and who ever would pay me) and did sound design and while it doesn't affect how I compose I always worry my mixing/mastering could've been better.

I have visual snow its basically constant static in my field of vision like those broken tvs. Gets worse in the dark. You can get used to it though sometimes you forget its there.
