Barbell rows / t bar rows are way better than any machine
Heavy chins will transform your body like nothing else... the back responds to low volume. Once you can do 10 bodyweight chins you need extra weight... try to increase 5lbs every workout until your only doing 2-3 reps with slow negatives.
Of course, achieving progressive overload and getting up to big boy weights is the most important thing.

Chin ups and pull ups are pretty similar to the point where you’ll have like 95% carry over. Pull ups also work the bicep, and rather than just pronation or supination of the wrist grip width also matters. A wide grip chin up on angled grips will work your lats more and bicep less than a pull up at shoulder width grip.
Personally I would recommend going for neutral or angled grips if possible, its a much more natural position for your wrists to be in and reduces the risk of tendonitis and injury
