For road
Keep rpms at around 90
Elbows in
Knees in
Don't shift under load

Just take a shower and get a haircut bro

Make sure the training wheels are properly secured or you'll tip

Dont be afraid of lycra. Gay-looking yes, but it makes long rides way more bearable.

adjust saddle height

stay off my road bike nigger

You seem nice

Get clipless shoes and a decent bike.

Holy fuck dont listen to this guy.
Aim for 110 rpm. Build it up if needed.
Depends on your age.
If your young, like 15 you should go and hit 120 definitely, if you want to compete in juniors high pedalling speed can be an amazing weapon when you catch a nice back wind.

Switch up your training 60% of your training on duration 20% interval, 10% sprint 10% time trial.

Get good at riding in group. Keep focus when you're close on the wheel. Tarmac hurts like a motherfucker.

Get a heart rate moniter and know your limits.
Log your trainings.

Clean your bike.

Thanks i am recovering from a shattered leg so I gpt a little fat and haven't done much cardio since October

city, suburbs or country?

Suburbs to country all paved

ride with groups who are faster than you and try to hold on for longer and longer each ride

watch the beginner vids from Global Cycling Network on youtube

This. And don’t hang out with serious cyclists. They’ll make you hate bikes.

Dont brake with front brake only lmao. Get a chamois pad shorts. Wear sunacreen and smash the hills till you can barely pedal

How do I go about picking a new set of gears and derailleur? Mines old and fucked up, and I want a new one. I have a road bike frame, but it came with a mountain bike groupset and I really like it. It has straight bars, so I think I need to stay with mtb. I like having a ton of range on the rear derailleur. So I can do climbs and flats

DON'T GO ON THE FUCKING ROAD.
IT WAS MEANT FOR CAR, NOT BIKES
WOULD TRY YOUR DRONE IN AN AIRPORT

Don't try sending it going way to fast and turning way too sharp after 5 days of straight rain.

I discovered/rediscovered my love for cycling and over did it. Riding every single night having too much fun while all the stress from work burned away.

But I was too tired after conservative days riding, long days of work, not enough sleep. Pushed it too far and would up getting thrown into the ground very hard.

3 broken ribs, bruised lungs, sprained spleen, sprained thoracic cavity, and I think something is wrong with my actual stomach too.

I am on a liquid diet and sleeping / breathing is so painful at times I have ended up in a pool of sweat and nauseous.

Whatever you do, be fucking safe user. Bike injuries are nothing like injuries from running. Lifting can cause some serious ones too but occur much more frequently / less room for error.

Don't listen to this faggot nigger. Bicycles are a vehicle and the road is unironically the best and safest place for you to ride. The sidewalk is dangerous in all kinds of ways. It's not maintained to be used for rapid wheeled transportation. It's occupied by pedestrians. Cars aren't looking for you, and on the sidewalk you can't ride freely like a car does.

Ride on the roads. Follow the fucking laws. YES that includes stopping at red lights, you idiot. If you are turning right, at least signal and slow down before you make your turn right. Remember you ARE a vehicle.

story behind? was it in on a turn?

nm poor reading comphrensiion

Gonna buy a bycicle since every other form of cardio hurts joints and/or is boring, how much am I looking to spend for a non piece of shit, general use bike?

Not a real turn but the apron on the road I was riding curb go very narrow, it was night and rainy, and something about the headlights coming towards me down thr road didn't feel right. I decided to hit some sidewalk instead and like an idiot took it aggressively.

Lost my rear traction and it slid out quicker than I could react to and brace myself or take a better position for a fall. I was only airborne for a brief moment before time seems to stop at impact.

My left arm was / elbow took the ground first but it wasn't extended and smashed right into the left side of my rib cage.

Instantly knocked the wind out if myself. After gasping and gasping it finally came back. Then I started seeing stars. Chain was off, the best I could do was push my bike another 200ft hoping that if I prentend I am okay might I would be true (doesn't make sense now, but that's where my mind is was at).

Seeing stars turned into tunnel vision but in a strange way. My vision got all bright / washed out / cloudy like I was swimming in chlorine pool with eyes open.

Put the kickstand down, put both arms in the bars and put my head down. This was a good 5 min after but I started to blackout for a moment. I just stayed there focusing all my energy on not falling asleep. It worked and I caught some adrenaline, fixed my chain and peddled home.

Part of me knew I was fucked but I hoped I would wake up feeling okay, well I had to roll off my bed and it took another 5 min of trail and error trying to stand up without using the wrong muscles.

Anywhere from $50 to $250 or more.
Depends on where you get it, and such.

get something used instead of a walmart shitheap

1k usd min

oh wow, i could see how the elbow could do some damage in that situation

glad youre ok now and still riding

>glad youre ok now and still riding

Thanks and me too. Riding is what I hoped lifting and running would have been for me.

Nothing against them but riding is just a different level of fun and I cannot get enough of it. All day long at work I think about getting home and riding. I never had a passion in life like that before, something that makes me look forward to each day in a child like way.

I posted my story in hopes that any new riders don't make the same mistake. It could have been way worse and I hope everyone who wants to ride gets to enjoy just how amazing it is for the long term.

One thing I've learned is to not take anything for granted. Did I fall off a 40ft drop? No... Not that badass of a story but it really doesn't take much to get seriously hurt when you are being reckless in anyway.

Night riding is very fun, but significantly more dangerous. Combine that with overconfidence/riding beyond ones ability and experience level, rain, and
mild sleep deprivation (slower reaction times) and it's a recipe for disaster for any newbie like I still am.

110 is a retarded goal rpm for beginner, shoot for 90, bro. like the man said, keep the body "quiet" in the saddle, focus on holding a nice line, become good handler of the bike so you can get into some fast club rides and not kill everyone. oh, and flip it.

stay away from cars as much as you can. Never stay close to a truck, they can't see you and will crush you in an instant.

This is retarded advice. He said beginner.

Get your setup properly adjusted.
Invest in decent shoes and clipless pedals.
Buy head and tailights.
Wear chamois, gloves and eye pro.
Focus on proper body form.
As stated before, do not shift under full load.

Aim for ~$500 for a bike from a reputable manufacturer that is a few years old, preferably from someone would has upgraded or just doesn't ride anymore.
Craigslist, LetGo, Facebook groups and Bikesdirect.com are all good sources.

so my knees hurt after a 8 mile ride on my left knee towards the right side of the kneecap. i mean i kept pushing but it hursts consistently from mile 1 every time i ride. what do

buy a static one

How do you even measure your rpm?
I just change between pedaling slow, fast or sprint and they flow into eachother depending on the gear used.

Buy a good but cheap ROAD bike, no hybrid shit. No higher than $600.

make sure your "fit" is ok, there are tons of general guides on youtube. saddle height is a usual suspect. never push through knee pain during training, you're just going to end up injured

by using a cadence sensor. you can do it manually by counting to get a general idea

Read on AI before you start

Shit, how can anyone like road biking? I mean MTB is where all the fun is.
