Fat guy here. Don't care about looking like a muscle man, I just want to win fights. Is of muscle or technique and how do you know if you are improving or not? I mainly practice punches, stances, and dodging but don't have a sparing partner. Should I just lift or keep up with the punching practice to win street fights?
Do you gotta be Jow Forums to be a good fighter?
Start fights with random people on the street and see how long you survive fatty
If you're fat, focus on getting your opponent on the ground then sit on them.
Noone is trying to start fights with random people. Just trying to to get better at self defense you insecure faggot.
Take up martial arts
Practicing punching and dodging by yourself without any trainer literally isn't going to get you anywhere
You don't have to be a supermodel to do martial arts either
Dumb question and you're dumb for doing this
strength (muscles) is just one aspect to the greater concept of fitness. yes you need to be fit to be able to fight, not just strong. develop technique in the ring and ask your trainer for advice on strength training to supplement your fighting
Thanks for the response. I don't think its dumb to ask questions. Just trying to get better at fighting.
Thank you as well. I must have underestimated how important a sparring partner is.
I lost my wheight when I got into MMA, because I realized that at my 110kg of fat I would have to face a guy of the same wheight who consisted mostly of muscle.
Most young men get in fights whether it's a bar fight or over a girl or whatever it is not so much because of that reason but more for the sake of learning how
If you're on grass and youre not fighting a trained fighter you MIGHT get your nose or jaw broken but you aren't going to die
I've been in 3 and it is very humbling, because as much as you want to believe you can kick the world's ass, once you start throwing punches you realize quickly that you're not nearly as good as you hoped you would be
You can spar and simulate it but nothing is going to prepare you for that adrenaline
In which case you should seriously consider taking up boxing or muay thai or any other martial art for that matter. Most of them incorporate strength and cardiovascular exercises during training aswell.
You could train by yourself for ten years and not reach the skill level of someone who trains under the guidance of experienced trainers for a year.
This is pretty much why I want to get better. Was trying to defuse a situation with a family member who I had no intention of fighting but got rushed and he got on my back. We made up and he admitted he was wrong but I still plan on breaking as much of his shit as I can and fucking him up. I don't want to feel weak again.
You should definitely be strong in order to fight at any competitive level. That being said, technique and endurance are equally if not more important in some circumstances. Best way to train to fight is to fight, get an instructor and a regular sparring partner, sparring can be your stand in for cardio 2-3 days a week.
If only there was some kinda place you could practice fighting.
The fact that I've been threatened by people before and told that someone could "fuck me up" if they wanted to is inspiring me to become stronger. I'm not sure how to word this without sounding like an edgelord, but even as a kid I hated doing what others tell me to or submitting to others. I have no desire to start shit or hurt anybody but I just really fucking don't like feeling vulnerable.
I also want to be able to protect my friends who aren't likely to try and strengthen themselves.
Keep in mind he could sue you, and hospital bills are no joke
I know a guy that was beating a girl.. so the girls brother shattered his jaw.. and the woman beater sued him for $6k in medical expenses and won it
This. I hate people who want to command people with strength. I get you user.
In fitness and sports, nearly every time the question "how can I get better at X" gets asked, the answer is: "Focus on X, and consistently do it a fucking lot".
fighting technique + muscles >> fighting technique + no muscles >> muscles but no fighting technique
Yeah, this might sound cringe but I kind of have it planned out. He was on parole when he attacked me and I didn't press charges because he would be locked away from his kids. There is no statute of limitations for violent crime in my state so I can still press charges anytime. I don't plan on pressing charges but he sues or calls the cops I will. If I go down I'm dragging him with me.
lmao
Hey is your name Kazuma Kiryu perhaps? I heard you teach people to fight through finance management?
Keep up with the punching practice. Lifting helps too though, you will be able to throw punches harder. Fat guys who know how to fight are unstoppable killing machines. God speed.
Do you even train at a gym/dojo?
Yes you need to look somewhat close to this.
Doesn't sound like it would stick if you have no visible injuries and it's just your word..
The guy already apologized and probably feels bad so the best thing for that situation would probably be to let it go as much as you don't want to
Like they say in the black community, "take the L" and use it as motivation to get in fighting shape, but once you're there I doubt you will be as worked up about it as you are now
Yeah you're right. I hear all the time of people learning martial arts for revenge but come out more mature and happier. I hope that happens with me.
>I've been in 3 and it is very humbling, because as much as you want to believe you can kick the world's ass, once you start throwing punches you realize quickly that you're not nearly as good as you hoped you would be
This. It's very disappointing to realize that the luckiest/strongest asshole wins, even if he's completely in the wrong, and even if you put all your willpower into it, it's often just not enough.
You have to be strong. Between equally trained (or untrained) people, the guy with the most muscle usually wins.
I've been training kickboxing for 3 years now. You don't need to be aesthetic at all, but you do need to have a certain amount of agility and endurance. Fast reflexes are pretty important. There are some guys there that look like regular chubby dudes or skinny twinks who can absolutely fuck your shit up. However, if you end up joining a boxing gym or something and dedicate yourself to it (going there at least 3 times a week) you'll eventually start looking better too, even if that isn't what you're going for.
Technique is the number on most important thing.
If you're fat, you better be able to finish the fight quickly, or you'll gas out and be overwhelmed as it drags on.
I'm in very good shape. I'm 5'8, 185lbs, maxes roughly at 2/3/4/5, and my cardio is pretty much bottomless. That said, I have been absolutely dominated in both striking and grappling by this guy at my MMA gym who is very out of shape, but has been training for 8 years. He gets tired, but he has such refined technique that he can end things quickly or stall long enough to deal with most people he goes up against.
All that said, if you want to be the best, you need technique and fitness. Technique being equal, the guy who is stronger and has better cardio will win.
> Fat guys who know how to fight are unstoppable killing machines.
For about two minutes. Circle out, kick the shit out of their legs and ribs, wait until they are sucking air, jab jab jab jab jab then it's an easy KO.
unironically post body and some tips on routine please
yeah Roy Nelson is a fucking beast
You don't need to be fit to fight, but it never hurts and it is an advantage
Self defense is holds and disarming, not street fights, fatty
THIS x 1000
A 200lb dude with 30% body fat is going to get DEMOLISHED by a jacked 200lb dude with only 10%. You're basically a smaller guy fighting a couple weight classes out of your league, with weights strapped to your body.
>t. my personal experience 4 days a week at BJJ, yes I'm the fat one
Go to a martial arts school
Is it even possible to learn how to fight without risking brain damage?
You can practice punches without sparring, sure. But it won't prepare you for the real thing
Immediately stop what you are doing and go to a gym or get a trainer. Proper technique is counter intuitive, and your are almost certainly practicing bad habits that will take much longer to get rid of, as opposed to learning it the right way first.
Besides, practicing alone removes the best part of training with a team: the intense comradery that inevitably develops from shared pain and struggle. On the days you absolutely don't feel like training, fear of falling behind or not seeing your new friends can be the extra push that gets you to go.
user, by the time you've spent even a fraction of the time and effort required to become a striker or grappler, you will have had your ass kicked at the very least a thousand times. Getting the shit kicked out of you, getting your dome rocked or getting tapped, will no longer be a notable event, there will be no ego left in you to even be humbled. Training and getting defeated by people half your size will just be another Tuesday morning for your, while normal people are still sound asleep in bed.
And you will look back on your desire to "fuck him up" and softly chuckle at the nonsense of such a thing. Hurting him after all that would prove nothing, and most likely make you feel ashamed of yourself.
The thing is you'll no longer feel weak, but you'll have a greater appreciation for what other people can do to you. You'll always spot geeky looking dudes half your size and wonder if they're secretly BJJ purple or brown belts. They're out there, small unassuming but well trained people who, if they truly wanted to kill you with their bare hands, you could do very little to stop them.
technique without strength is like a gun without ammunition.
that said, you cant learn technique bereft of strength training. If you're learning to fight with your hands, you'll become more athletic by nature of repetition.
good to see the actor from Ghost got work after that movie
This user gets it. I am constantly seeing posts about how swole dudes would kick a scrawny purple/brown/black belt's ass and it's so laughable.
When fighting the most important thing is stamina, you can see how sloppy your punches become when you start gassing out or already are;improving your cardiovascular ability is the priority and you do that by getting to low level bodyfat%,also don't build up too much muscle,if you want to lift just do olympic lifts with some bodyweight exercises and dedicate time to the neck and traps, the forearms and the abs.
Also,go to a boxing gym (I'm assuming you are training that, anyway my point should be clear)and spar,it's the closest thing that you'll get to real life fighting.
Cardio and stamina. Real fights will wear you down quick if you're not in shape. The second you become more tired than the other guy is the second your ass gets handed to you
