Assisted Dips

I've been trying to get in to dips over the last few weeks after my chest work, but I completely fail.

I'm using the assisted dip machine, as I'm still building up my tricep strength.

The problem I've got is I can barely do even one (with minimal loading) without my traps cramping up solidly for 1-2 minutes. Pain is so intense, I nearly pass out. I end up going back to tricep extensions.

Anyone else had this issue? Any advice? Be greatly appreciated.

Use more weight to make the exercise easier

How much weight assistance are you using?

If you're feeling it in your traps you probably aren't getting on the machine properly. Try to get on with your arms straight and fully extended. When you go down don't go full 90 to start.

concentrate on core and diet. Your bmi is out of whack, thus the lack of dippage.

Don't use that silly machine, it's humiliating, it's like a children's ride. Use a seated push down machine.
Do bench dips to failure.

Dude, that's embarrassing, don't do it. Try working on your push-ups at home, pretty much the same muscles, just a lot easier.

I'm 100kg body weight, so I set it to 75kg.

The pain is gone, but I can still feel a bit of discomfort at the base of my neck and shoulder.

It comes on about 3/4 way down and is completely localized to my upper traps. So, maybe I am going down too low?

No other exercise sets this off.

At that body weight I'd do other exercises to increase your tricep strength.

Honestly just go til failure every time you do it, it'll get better over time.

don't be in a shrug pose, push the shoulders down and into your back pocket and brace your core

That used to happen to me and I just rolled out my traps with a lacrosse ball and kept at it and now I do weighted dips every workout with no pain or discomfort at all.

They're really not that good for you. They impinge the shoulder.

I'm at the point where I can do like 60 so they're pretty worthless for me anyways. Im also at the point where adding weight just makes it hurt more. I weigh 210 lbs and can do them with a 45 lb plate

Start with this exercise instead. When its not challenging enough, add weight by putting plate on your laps, gradually in time go up to 45 lb plate. At this time you will be strong enough to start doing standard dips.

Nigga how the fuck do you know what his bmi is?

Imagine unironically doing dips LMFAO

Jow Forums's upper bodies are generally too weak to do dips, yes.

It's fine. What's your chest/tricep routine overall?

Focus on losing weight, obviously, but also think about on balancing your weight on a vertical axis for full contraction.

Also, assisted dips are goat for burning out after you do your main pushing exercises.

Please post a video.

lol just do close grip bench press for that triceps strenght , easier to control steady proggssion and gains will come

my shoulders hurt doing bench dips even when i follow this advice youtu.be/jdFzYGmvDyg

just needs to spot reduce some gluten and the weight will fly off
