It’s for people who aren’t serious about getting fit.
If you have no other option, it's fine. otherwise, literally anything else is better.
Speak for yourself.
I am a poorfag in a university town. Planet fitness is sufficient.
I prefer to go real early in the morning. Otherwise it's full of thots.
Its fine if youre broke
If you thrash and bang the fucking ground while deadlifting and youre not deadlifting at least 225, you should control urself
basically my only option when i'm away from school. everything else is like $300/month or has some dumb personal trainer packages you can't opt out of
post body
Cheap playground for adults.
Go during midday hours or very late hours if you want to use anything because it'll be packed from all the kids coming out of school/people leaving from work or you'll never get a machine or squat rack
my local one has this really fucking fit girl. she has a 6 pack, but shes super thin and wears yoga pants and has the most tone ass i've ever seen. I always think wtf is she doing at planet fitness and not at the LA fitness across the street.
Post lunk alarm
youtube.com
Thats pattently false theres some ripped dudes there but there are some fatties for sure. Bottom line? Its ten fucking bucks a month. 10 dollar barely buys you a sammich in todays economy. Yes i go there.
fucking this. planet fitness has basic equipment that you can use to get ripped if you know what youre doing. for 10 bucks a month its a good bargain. although there are better options, planet fitness is the most cost efficient.
it's a fitness center/hotel gym you pay for
Planet fitness creates victims
I get the point of the video but lmao @ the fucking DYELs.
>gym
But it's not
Not as bad as people make it out to be. I am just starting out, so it works for now. It's affordable, has enough to get a good workout, and there are plenty of locations which works well with my job. I figured after a year I'd just upgrade to 24 hour. I'm also training in Muay Thai, so I have to put more of my money into that.
Mostly for noobs/normies.
Tons of cardio equipment, tons of lifting machines. Not much free weight, no squat rack.
If it's your only option its better than nothing
Fantastic in terms of money but fucking horrendous in how they ban deadlifts and shit. They'd get no dirt thrown at them if they just removed that retarded lunk alarm, bought in a couple more squat racks and didn't try to make a point of not catering towards bodybuilders.
At least 315*

Hi im you a year later, except i did pf for a year and now just started muay thai, hello :^)
I just moved states and this is the closest one to my house until I find something better. It's always clean, has a nice locker room, and a spot to refill water bottles at which is cool. Has a ton of cardio and crossfit equipment which is nice and not common for regular gyms. I really like the rock wall handles they have for pull ups. Feels better than a bar. I hate that they don't have higher weight dumbbells and no squat racks or barbells. It's definitely sufficient, and better than no gym.
Its shit because of how they take advantage of normie ignorance over gyms. Any self respecting gym should have free weights.
I go here. It's honestly great. The gym is always clean. You never have to wait. Their whole business model is getting lazy people to pay monthly and never show up, so I benefit with a nearly empty gym. And it's only 10 fucking dollars a month.
They have dumbells up to 100lbs and curl bars up to 90. The literal only free weight they don't have is barbells
>Calls itself a gym and markets itself for everybody
>Doesn't have barbells
Hmmmmmm
>The literal only free weight they don't have is barbells
>paying for a gym without barbells
Your local public rec center is better than planet fitness. And know, as I go over there to squat every week
she fucks all the chads at LA fitness. she doesnt need to worry at planetfatness
>local public rec center
What did they mean by this?
this reminds me of that parasyte anime
>not lowing the weight in a controlled manner
Theres no excuse unless you are competing, its half the exercise.
I would go there if they had barbells that weren't on Smith machines or pre weighted to 70 lbs. They just don't have a lot of equipment besides treadmills and machines.
PF gets a bad name for it's lunk alarm and free food days. As far as I know, the lunk alarm is never active for the 6 days a week I go and I just avoid the free pizza and bagel the one time a month they do have them. The cleaning is sloppy and I've seen clumsy staff drop bottles of the stuff on the floor and use the same towel they wipe equipment with to wipe the floor. Wipe equipment before and after use if you do use machines and benches. Cheap prices invite all kinds of entitled and loud people and less room to get your reps in so go at different times of the day to avoid that.
tl;dr avoid PF if you have the money for a better gym.
Mine local one wasn't bad. I used to work from 3:30pm-12:00am, so I'd go at 12:30am or so. Most nights it was just me and one or two other spergs in the entire place. It was decent enough and let me get my wage rage out. I never went during peak hours, but judging by the parking lot it was always a zoo. I'm sure it's a much different experience during the day.
It's good for the price. I've dropped 55 pounds over the last 3ish months going there and running outside so anyone who says you can't get results going there is full of shit.
People who don't have the willpower to walk past free pizza were never gonna make it anyway.

are you enjoying your free pizza days and restriction of setting down dumbells?
>b-but it saves you a lot of money
there a more affordable gyms like YMCA. Even though it is not a gym, they have a program for poorfags/students that accommodates the membership price according to how much you earn. Go to whatever you want at the end of the day but get ready to get shit for going to a btfo'd gym
>please stay fat
Ive been going there since i've started working out 3 monthes ago. been doing pretty well for how skinny I am at the moment.
I hate how they have no free weights, so i gotta use the smith machine for squats, benches, OHP, deadlifts and rows. Doing DLs is goofy. but ive seen stronger people do them on it so i guess its ok. Still would if they didnt, though. DL 245 so far.
Only seen a handfull of thots that want attention. but there are some pretty good looking girls, but i dont lift for them. Since the gym's right across from a highschool, ive been surrounded by highschool girls. feels good man. glutes for the sloots.
I bought a Bench press that can extend to do squats on from my uncle a little bit ago, but he only sold me 4 25lb weights and the bar is a small diameter. Once I have enough weights, im done with PF. even though its really the only time I go outside besides work.
You sure they have barbells? They got rid of them where I lived a few years ago. There's literally nothing of use in that particular gym.
>if the logo looks like it could be found in a South Park episode, DONT go there
>pay for cheap membership
>more serious people don’t show up
I wonder why that is. It’s not a bad place if you’re broke and can go during odd hours )which for you reading, means while everyone else is at work 7-7) it’s pretty empty and is an alright starting point for most people, if you honestly can’t make gains there you’re probably not creative and should go sperg out about it at a power lifting gym, where the real autistic shit goes down.
For $10 a month, I would go but the only location is a 20 minute drive and not worth the travel. I need to look into the other gym discounts my health insurance offers
>Calls itself a gym
Does it, though?
are machines completely pointless?
Yes, just like free weights if you don’t use them intelligently.
Starter gym
Pretty decent gym and it does what it needs too, you can still get big there if it’s the only option available to you. Most of the elitist people on this board that say otherwise have probably been only lifting for a year at most
They're not COMPLETELY pointless but using free weights and barbell is a lot more beneficial since you have to counteract the shakyness and unstableness, which in turn will give you more strength and stability overtime.
>12 Month commitment
Yikes, are all gyms like this?
t. starting Jow Forums life
Well its like riding with training wheels forever vs just getting on the bike and learning. Machines are fine to get familiar with the motions but you really should move to free weights for what said
I like machines for pushing yourself with really high weights. You don't have to trust your life to some rando, and if you fuck up you won't kill yourself.
Yes pretty much. Maybe you can find a commitment free one and pay on the month to month basis. PF has commitment free for 15 bucks a month
Most gyms are, thats how they afford $5000 dollar racks and shit
At any rate, you should easily be able to budget a gym membership into your spending with any decent job
Free weights are meant for bodybuilding (high repetition, low rest period, lots of sets) workouts. Use them for that. They aren't suitable to build strength or help your form or anything like that; they should be used to supplement barbell lifts as burnout phases.
Oh shit, I said free weights here. I meant to say MACHINE weights are for bodybuilding. Free weights are the opposite; strength training.
Absolutely wrekt
PF is okay as long as you realize that $10 gets you limited equipment. For most fairly fit people this isn't a problem though as anyone that isn't influenced by shitty internet memes knows a lot can be accomplished at PF.
Price matters. $10 for budget gym and $30-150 for fight sport training is always going to be a fuck of a lot better than throwing down $150 every month just to lift weights like a mongrel. Obviously if you're poor PF is great.
But as others have said the time you go is the most important issue. During the day and primetime hours they're almost always full of niggers that will literally sit at machines doing nothing for 30 minutes or more and pull the race card if you ask them to fuck off.
Tl;dr it's not a specialized gym but that's okay because the only specialized gyms worth paying for are fight schools. Only faggots spend a lot of money to brag about lifting weights with other faggots.
They created the dadbod meme and now normies believe that women actually like dadbods, lmao.
0/10 gym
its okay but not amazing, LA is better but too expensive for me rn
i go at like 2:00pm on my days off and after 7 on work days. 2 is perfect, just me, the boomers and like two cuties. 7 is more full but never terrible. helps the staff is real cool, i've never heard the lunk alarm and they've never had to talk to anyone for being a shithead, atleast while ive been there. see a few relatively big guys still there and one or two huge guys.
did they really? fuck that place in general
It's better than nothing. I'd even say it's decent for a "never worked out before" starter gym. But when you can afford it consider upgrading to a better one.
Only go there to trigger the “lunk alarm” and then dash
This is a bad thing how? More snatch for the rest of us.
Doesn’t really matter to me. I go to a county gym that has all the equipment i need and it’s free. Having connections through relatives is fun.
Dude please do not post shit like that I had a panic attack and had to go to the hospital
Golds is only $20 a month and quite possibly the most based gym I’ve been to. It is full of powerlifting boomers.
-It's very popular in terms of gyms, so it's going to be more difficult to find weights and space to do what you need, especially if you have to go during peak hours
-It's always cheap
-You don't have to eat the pizza
-It's not hard to avoid the lunk alarm, it's mostly a meme
-The equipment varies from location to location, some I've been to are 90% cardio and machines while others are comparable to other gyms in the free weights.
In general I disapprove of them because of their attitude towards fitness, but some locations are 100% fine if I'm not being snotty. Don't be afraid to go if you have no other choice.
>have no free weights
What the fuck? I Knew they were bad but no free weights? What??
It is a temple of mediocrity designed to pat you on the back just for showing up. Only a good gym if you’re a cardio bunny. Even then, they’d probably kick you out for running too fast.
Theyve got a large rack of dumbells, but thats the only thing thats not a machine.
Whats worse is, in mine at least, that the smith machines are slanted back about 5 or 10 degrees for some reason, so im not even squatting straight up and down.
just squat with dumbells at that point and do dumbell version of the exercises. You wont get the same results but its way better than a smith
Doubt I can be able to hold over 200lbs in dumbells. Ill just stick with the machine till i get more weights for home or i visit snap city.

I hear the best deal would be the $20/month to go to any of their gyms, at least if you're on the move.
I think that the point would be that planet fitness is populated by people who make serving junk food in a gym a viable business option.
Anyone pick up MRSA there?
The best deal is actually the commitment free one so you can just quit whenever without having to pay additional fees for breaking out of their contract.
Isn't the lunk alarm actually just manually controlled by the employees? I heard it's not actually automatic.
I don't get the no grunting thing.
grunting can actually help you lift. All my bros grunt when they are deadlifting huge stacks. One of my bros actually yells when he overloads because he says it helps him lift.
Also people who are trained in martial arts will often make a quick, sharp yell right as they strike because it increases strength.
>Those numbers
What the fuck is going on here? You said you've been lifting for 3 months, but you have a 275 squat, while on the other end you've only got an 85 lbs OHP and 155 bench? I buy all the other numbers as a 3 month lifter, but how is your squat that high so soon, while everything else isn't? Is the smith machine at PF doing all the work for you or something?
Bc she clearly knows what she is doing and is achieving desired results, why would she change that?
It says above it that those are my estimated one rep maxes.
im at 235 squat, stuck at 75 ohp, 240 DL, 135 bench and 125 pendlay row
I don't
Furthermore, if some pizza one day a month is enough to throw off your progress, then you have bigger problems
I doubt id lift that much with free weights since the machine balances it for me, anyway.
>The literal only free weight they don't have is barbells
good lord man
> One of my bros actually yells when he overloads
unironically this though
I do not believe unless you are obeast. That is almost 5 pounds a week.
i lift in PF, i grunt sometimes if i do 65lb dumbel exercise no problem ever, no bench or deadlifts tho :/ its good if you are trying to maintain your muscles or if you are beginner
it's as bad as they say. Went in one once to check it out thinking it couldn't actually be that bad. There aren't even benches for barbell benching. No squat rats or power cages. Only smith machines. It's really worthless.
>not lowing the weight in a controlled manner
>Theres no excuse unless you are competing, its half the exercise.
The deadlift is a pull.
>tfw gym squat rats ate all the free pizza
Its really not a bad gym. Choose what time you go wisely
