Less weight to load than traditional leg press because of the vertical force vector. Doing it in a smith machine is probably not ideal. A vertical leg press has an angled back and headrest as well as a flat and wide place for your feet to press from rather than a round bar.

I guarantee you've seen people do rotator cuff exercises. This is just a way to do them to the side while standing with resistance, since a lot of people will just do it with a dumbbell in that position, doing fuck all. If you're not doing anything for your rotator cuffs you're going to go to snap city eventually.
people might want to avoid cns fatigue by doing an exercise that doesnt tax the spine as much or just worry more about hypertrophy/leg developement, downright negating an exercise because its not one of the big 5 is dumb and pretends that everyone is under the same conditions with the same goals

smith machines are dangerous af regardless. If you fail on it the weight will come crashing down on your neck/spine. It gives people the false sense of security but all in all what it really is is a weight held by rails that has exactly one direction it will go if you dont push it up. Free weights are by far the safest if you arent retarded (and if you are then walking is probably more dangerous for you)

There are 3 rotator cuffs. The infraspinatus really isn't used that much in a face pull since the supraspinatus is the one used when the shoulder is abducted. It's like saying why OHP when you can just bench. Either way, these aren't really exercises that you need to set aside a significant portion of your workout for. Personally I just superset them.
