My office has a gym. My boss uses it at 5am and finishes around 6am. He said he’s the only one there. I started going around 6:15am.
Benjamin Lopez
I just bought stuff for a home gym.
Lucas Cox
bring a retarded friend so you can be retarded together. Better than being retarded alone
Leo Thompson
>How did you guys get over your anxiety to start going to the gym? I just accepted I will look like shit to strangers for a few months >I dont know how to use any of the machines. No idea how long I should be working out for. Worried I will tire myself out. Do a barbell routine like SS or SL >What to wear? Where to out things like water bottles? Gym shorts and t shirt
Dylan Hernandez
They will have an induction which will tell you what you need to know. You can google the rest and YouTube the exercises. Stop being a pussy.
Aaron Gutierrez
I started by only going at off hours and only doing exercises I know. Then I stopped caring and just wanted progress so I go as much as possible. 6 months ago I was standing in the power rack watching a video on form for bent over rows. I don’t care what people think and fuck them if they are hating.
I still go on off hours as much as possible because I hate waiting for shit.
Dylan Cook
how the fuck do people get through life when anxiety is able to keep them from the gym?
im a kissless virgin dyel and was able to do it no problem
John Russell
>wants to go to gym
>worried about tiring himself >at the gym
Charles Foster
This thot is so ugly
Ryder Reyes
I lifted at home for 8 months
Daniel Mitchell
Take preworkout. You will feel so wired youll feel bad if you dont go workout
Isaac Lewis
First of all, don't use machines. Use free weights, and before you start going, be sure to pick a good routine (recommend SS) and study safety and form. Plenty of YouTube videos on how to do essential lifts.
Just wear a t shirt and gym shorts. Nobody gives a fuck, I wear wrinkled ass shirts to the gym all the time. You're there to workout, not be fashionable. If you're that worried about being judged, go at a time where nobody will be there. I think you'll find that it's not as scary as you're making it in your head, as is most things with anxiety.
>What to wear? Where to out things like water bottles?
Just a big t-shirt and a good pair of shorts with a tight waist. Water bottle is fine but prob don't bring your whole bag with you just toss that in the locker room
>I dont know how to use any of the machines
Look up Brian Alshure or Alan Thrall on youtube learn the basics about a few lifts then go practice 1-2 in a day like overhead press and squat or deadlift + bench. Then after a few sessions of getting comfortable find a linear progression routine like Greyskull LP or 5/3/1 for beginners and run it as best you can.
Buffdudes and Athleanx are also good sites for learning accessories like dumbell and cable stuff. Go find some stuff and mess around nobody is gonna give a shit about you just do your thing bro you work hard and always be learning you will make it.
Dude seriously don't worry. If someone's really trying to better themselves, even if they're too tall/short/fat/skinny etc., that's an admirable thing to try and make one's life better through sheer physical effort and they get my respect and the respect of most others. Don't give a fuck about how you look. Sweatshirt, t-shirt, wifebeater, whatever. Focus on whatever you're doing. Focus on how well you can inflict tension-over-time to your muscles of choice. If it makes you sore it's a good thing.
They're fine for running. For weightlifting you'd prefer to have something with a flat sole like Chuck Taylors or Vans. I personally wear a pair of cheap off-brand Converse shoes.
Jace Rogers
>I just accepted I will look like shit to strangers for a few months >a few months kek, the naivety of summerfags, more like a few years
Carson Lopez
Just remember everyone started where you are eventually. Everyone started out benching the bar, squatting the bar, shit like that. No one is gonna make fun of you for starting out, and if they do they’re honestly retarded as fuck and you shouldn’t mind it. Just keep consistent and know what you’re doing. Best thing you can do is spend a week watching videos and educating yourself on proper form, good exercises, reps and sets, and nutrition. Also take any advice on here with a grain of salt cuz /fit is filled with retards
Cameron Gomez
Realise that 90% of people in gyms look like shit, are weak as piss and how no idea what they’re doing. Unless you walk around with your dick out literally nobody will pay any attention to you.
Parker Reyes
Story about my first time going to the gym. I was 6'3" 125lbs
>Left home at 4pm, I got to the gym at 4:15 >drove right past it. >drove right past it 3 more times >decided I'd just go for a drive instead >drove around for almost 5 hours. >drove past gym one last time and slammed in to a parking spot hit the e brake grabbed my shit and went and worked out until closing at 10pm. >for 2 years I went to the gym at 9pm until closing at 10pm.
Now I go at 8pm
Just go user, people there will judge you as much as fit says they won't.
But no one there hates you, and the long timers and gym staff will grow to know and respect you for coming every week.
Tyler Wood
You don't. you go. you fuck up. you feel embarrased, and then you go again. then eventually you're the guy making fun of the new people on the machines.
go super early when no one is there until you get used to the equipment and your limits lad
Christian Nguyen
I built a home gym.
Samuel Young
this tbqh, I very rarely see someone benching 1pl8 or more. And 70% of the people who do look like shit (builtfat or just plain fat). I have never seen anyone deadlift more than me at my gym and I dl only lmao2pl8 for a few reps. also I'm literally king of manlets at 178cm and 85% of the gym is shorter than me. There must be one or two guys who look good, the rest is manlet cringe tier. Plenty of good looking thots, but cardiobunny mode. normie gyms are a bit sad, desu. Just go and mind your own business.
Asher Sullivan
just go once and you'll realise no one cares or even notices you
Don’t even pay attention to anyone else. Show up in something comfortable to lift in, take your shit in a duffle bag or backpack and I it’s really that bad buy some Bluetooth earbuds and blare music through those when you go
Sebastian Lee
Watch videos on correct form. Look up a beginner workout split. Start with nothing and learn the movement. Add on weight over time.
Nobody really judges you unless you do absolute clown stuff.
Joshua Peterson
>How did you guys get over your anxiety to start going to the gym? Just go. Literally after your first time doing your first workout of a proper routine (SL, SS, GSLP etc.) you'll realize that everybody minds their own business
>I dont know how to use any of the machines. No idea how long I should be working out for. Worried I will tire myself out. Start with the bar, get yourself used to the movements. If you have no muscle you'll find that the 45lb bar is harder to lift than you might think. Avoid machines until you are more experienced. Alternatively if you REALLY want to use them, get a PT to teach you.
>What to wear? Where to out things like water bottles? Whatever you want. A t shirt and comfy shorts are fine. If you are weightlifting get flat shoes. Put the water bottle by the racks.
Cameron Bell
if your a bloke nobody is even looking at you mate
Dylan Clark
>I dont know how to use any of the machines. Don't use the machines. They are worthless toys for Facebook moms and faggots. >No idea how long I should be working out for. However long it takes you to finish a beginner routine. You generally should try to keep most workouts to about an hour or less. SL 5x5 takes like 35-50 minutes. >Worried I will tire myself out. This is a retarded thing to be afraid of, but it depends on your routine. You won't tire yourself out on any of the beginner 3x5 or 5x5 routines if that's really what you're afraid of. More reps and sets = more tired. It's not rocket science. >What to wear? You seem to genuinely be autistic, so I'll make it simple. If you just want to be invisible, wear a plain fucking t shirt or tank top, and some light athletic shorts or light sweatpants. If you wear shorts, wear long socks on deadlift day in case you ever scrape your shins. >Where to out things like water bottles? Just set it on the fucking floor next to you as you move from rack to bench.
Jesus man and I though I was a wreck. I've had these thoughts to, but I never felt the need to ask. The answers are obvious. Just focus on lifting properly and forget about the other details.
Sebastian Ward
Don't really have anxiety but I started with a home gym first, first time I stepped in a gym I could squat almost 3 plate for 5
Dominic Sullivan
As a guy with pretty bad anxiety. It took me 2 years to finally get in the gym. Sometimes I would practice just walking to the gym and turning around. As long as I did that it was progress.
Fast forward 2 years and I wish I had just gone inside on day 1. Literally nobody gives a fuck what you're doing in the gym. They are all entirely focused on their own shit. At most you will get a glance every now and then simply from somebody who is taking their rest between sets and has nothing to do for 30 seconds.
You can always look around and find the right gym for you, too. The one I settled on has mostly young guys, fat middle aged people and old ladies. The one I tried before was 99% roided up giants and barely 18 year old cardio bunnies wearing next to nothing. It was impossible to do my workout without staring at the 12 dozen tight asses lined up in a row, and waiting in line behind 3 gigantic powerlifters just to OHP the bar was anxiety central.
So yeah. Just find a nice quieter gym and most importantly just go inside and do it. Force yourself. Eventually you won't be worried about it anymore.
Andrew Hernandez
Literally nobody cares about you unless you are gigachad. Which you are not because you are on Jow Forums
Jacob Scott
tell me
people are in the gym way past 9 pm
i dont want to go when there are a lot of people and i can only go at like 10-11 pm , it closes at 11pm
I dunno about krautland but most gyms in the US are the busiest from like 4-8pm, after that it slows down. Alternatively just go to a 24 hour gym.
Ian Carter
sadly i dont have a 24hr gym around me and most people seem to be going after 8pm now that its fucking hot outside
Gabriel Reyes
Why is that? Seems like it would be the opposite, go inside when its hottest out during the day.
Robert Baker
most people get off from work at around 6 pm
James Hall
Literally just go on the treadmill on off hours until the gym feels like a familiar place. Then work up the courage to lift.
Jayden Allen
Man so much of the "anxiety" and other problems you guys all seem like you have around here could be solved if you just relaxed, stopped overthinking things and just got out of your own way. For example: >what do I wear to the gym?! Um...gym clothes maybe? Is there any reason you can't just put on a t-shirt and some shorts like 90% of other gym-goers?
Benjamin Nelson
honestly i stop having anxiety thoughts after taking pre workout
Anthony Hall
Nobody cares, there are 60kg twinks deadlifting 1 plate in my gym. I do not care the slightest about them
Ian Howard
You just do it, don't even think about doing it cause you'll convince yourself not to.
Ryan James
by realizing that your anxiety is just intense empathy that is unfamiliar with other people, but once you connect more you'll find out how desperately sad and confused the majority of people are, and how much they really suffer, and you'll want to save them from it, but there's nothing you can do but have pity from afar
