I can leg press 500lbs for 10 reps

I can leg press 500lbs for 10 reps.

How much can I likely squat if I've never squatted before?

the bar

probably 200 lbs your first time, 300 lbs within weeks/months

Seconding this.

And you may or not take a good while to actually get good form on a squat.

you know those machines have those circles that carry the cables and i dont know what the math on that is but every rotating circle cuts the weight in half or something so you should try to squat the bar since you dont have stability

Depends on how strong is your core/back

I wouldn't focus on how much you can squat, but learning proper squat form. A leg press is different enough that it could be awkward trying to squat.

That's only if you use the machines with the cables. The ones where you put on plates and press at a 45 degree angle are different. The vertical component of weight force (as you would encounter in a squat) is sin45, so about 70.7% of the weight on the leg press. But that's not where it ends. Leg presses usually have handle bars that allow you to anchor yourself not only at your feet but at your hands, too. This allows you to press more as you're engaging your upper body. On top of that, you're not training your stabilising muscles as you would in a squat. So press 500lbs for reps on leg press doesn't just translate as 350lbs squats. Your core and other supporting muscles would be underdeveloped. A 500lbs leg press would most likely translate to a 180-200lb squat for reps.

He asked how much he can likely squat, not how much he should squat.

The later is however low he needs to get the form right, before gradually loading it without losing the form.

I myself took months to actually get the form right and consistent, so messed up was my abiltiy to get into a proper squat with a load after years of sedentarism.

you'd be lucky if you could manage 135 lbs moving that kind of bitch weight on the leg press machine you total fucking faggot lmao

most likely your ROM was weak af because you are not expierenced in the gym. numbers from leg press dont have to tell anything. different machines and different ROMs can make an insane difference here.

i never saw any studies about leg press correlation to squat but i remember interviews with some skijumpers. they said that they can leg press 550-750bs for reps, and can atg back squat 250-350lbs for 1 rep (who knows if they said the truth or not)

185 maybe

I'd guess you could probably do 115 on your first try, 135 a week later, and then it's probably take you 2 months to break 225, if you weren't such an e-statting little fatass piggy that is.

probably 1 plate. do not do more and hurt yourself. i can leg press 900+ but only squat 340. it's a lot different.

At least 495 for 9

So you’re saying since I can squat 180 I should be able to leg press 500? I’ll try it at the gym tomorrow

It's best to work on form first before stacking on more weight. If you want to continue to go heavier, do less reps and focus on form. Yah, you could do 225 8 reps, but 4 of those reps the form is going to suck. So do 3 or 4 really good reps and practice.

squat and leg press has nothing to do together except they use legs
squat is almost a full body, polyarticular movement that is a skill you master, while leg press is more of an isolation movement for the quads.
With that being said, indeed there is a correlation between both, but you will get better result by training squat if you want a bigger squat.
think about it : its like comparing bench press with machine press, the later is far easier than the first.

this pic infuriates me because i know there are many people who will disregard the laws of physics and think this shit is totally normal..

your legs will be strong but the back muscles necessary for a high quality squat will be disproportionately weak
the quad/glute+hams balance will likely be fuckey too

no, read it again retard
