/fast/ #459 - Triggered Edition

What is /fast/?
>Fast is a thread for the discussion of intermittent fasting, fasting, water fasting, and dry fasting.
discord.gg/qqtQFDQ

What’s the difference between intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, etc.?
>Intermittent fasting: Fasting for a certain amount of time with a short eating window. 16:8 (16 hours fasting, 8 hour eating window) is the bare minimum.
>Water fasting: Fasting with only water.
>Dry fasting: Fasting with no water. Dangerous, use with caution.

Why should I fast?
>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3946160/
>ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11147801

How do I safely do an extended fast?
>Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.
>Water=2L
>Potassium chloride =1 tsp (No Salt)
>Sodium chloride = 1/2 tsp (Himalayan Pink Salt)
>Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp (Baking Soda)
>Magnesium Sulphate = 1/2 tsp (Food Grade Epsom Salts)
>Mix these in 2L of water and sip it throughout the day.
>[OPTIONAL] 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar and 4 tbsp lemon juice. DO NOT MIX with snake juice, drink separately.
>You can also do this if you feel lightheaded, weak, dizzy, nauseous, etc., on shorter water fasts. Don’t do this while intermittent fasting.

Won’t I go into starvation mode?
>No. The mainstream definition of starvation mode is a myth. Read the FAQ linked below for more information.

Will (something with calories) break my fast?
>Yes.

Can I drink coffee, tea, and diet soda? Or anything with artificial sweeteners?
>You can do whatever the fuck you want. We recommend avoiding those, sweeteners especially.

Do I need a multivitamin?
>No

Says the dude going off cursing and spitting because someone decides to use nicotine or caffeine responsibly. You must be a real puritan, I also use forskolin and yohimbine, you gonna say that's harmful too? lol

reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/ba52vw/nice_edmonton_stay_classy/
Holy shit, are normies really this retarded? They think fasting with electrolytes is stupid. Fucking hate these cunts

Stop linking rage porn bruh c'mon

>Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.
so can I pass from the snake juice and just take a pill with electrolytes?

if I do HIT training during fast will I lose more fat?

it says you don't need a multivitamin, but is it fine to have one anyway? would feel alot better if I did

If fasting doesn't cause muscle loss what does?

Can any /fast/ bros relate to this? I’ve fasted for 40 hours now and I feel like my vision has become sharper. It’s hard to explain, I don’t have any vision problems but i felt like all day today I was seeing things in 4K. Especially the trees. Things almost looked like movie props. I’ve had similar experiences when eating edibles and getting high.

>We recommend avoiding those, sweeteners especially.
What's wrong with something like mio, supposedly 0 cals?

artificial sweeteners wreck your gut health and cause you to crave sugar.

it makes it harder to fast, basically. it's probably fine if you drink something like a coke zero once or twice a day.

for weight loss, sure. for autophagy and other benefits it's best avoided. not to mention that most multis will make you nauseated on an empty stomach.

>/fast/ - anectdotal evidence haven

67 hours in right now, how's everyone doin?

23hrs 40 minutes in here. shooting for 48, maybe 72.

felt weak earlier in the fast, feeling fine now. might be because i ate a Cadbury chocolate bar before I started fasting. always feel like shit if i eat a lot of sugar/refined carbs before fasting.

Been doing 72s then did 48s now doing 24s
170lbs 14%BF what should my refeed meals look like on 24s?

So many S E E T H I N G fatties

Go for the 72, you can do it!
I like to have a small, low carb meal. The meal doesn't matter as much with such a short fast but I find that on longer ones reintroducing carbs slowly is the way to go. Just make sure you eat something healthy.

Holy cope

Yes
Yes but it might give you a tummy ache
Being sedentary for long periods of time while maintaining a steady intake of food, or consistently eating a small amount of calories.
For shorter periods it doesn't matter; just eat normally. Don't binge.

Rather than sipping snek joos I've been taking my minerals by the spoonful followed by a quart of water. So far so good, but will this kill my gut in the long run?

Attached: mentat.jpg (437x336, 35K)

Being a sedentary fat ass

I literally dropped 70lbs in less than 3 months and I took time stamped pics for proof lol

>ditch (((refined carbs))), take the 18/24 pill
>no hunger, zero cravings, barely think about food at all
>every meal is hearty and top comfy
>yet still eating under maintenance and steadily losing weight no problemo

It's almost as if this was the way our bodies evolved to tap into our fat reserves all along.

Got a cold. Fast or no? Any science on this?

Fast.
"to eat when you are sick is to feed your sickness" -Hippocrates

A Summer cold? Put down the onions milk and pour yourself a cup of choccy whole milk

He said “any science on this?”

Snake juice tastes like ass. If I decide to just take a shot of the salts at once, would I be losing any benefits over ingesting snake juice as recommended?

You might shit yourself lmao

Going to attempt my first water fast. How long should I go? Can I lift during it?

Dammit. Looks like no avoiding the snake oil erm I mean snake juice.

Drink ORS instead, they taste great and don't have enough dextrose to kick you out of ketosis. I use them and I always enter deep ketosis within a day.

ORS?

This is not reddit faggot stop using acronyms

why is Jow Forums so triggered by fasting?

Is it possible to grow muscle during a water fast?

No, fucking kill yourself. What would you like your body to make muscle out of, thin air? It needs calories to add mass.

>super motivated on new project
>working 12 hour days, learning new technologies
>very low carb OMAD
>accidentally dipping to single digit bodyfat

If only fatties knew how easy it was

Oral Rehydration Salts.

Because muh 6 meals a day, muh mussels and muh starvation.

People legitimately cannot comprehend that entire fields can be so dogmatic that something contrary to prevailing dogma has literally not been tried, at least not contemporarily. Study any discipline in depth and you will find revolutionary ideas come along regularly, if not exactly often. Caution should be taken to not climb aboard a false paradigm shift and get taken for a ride (lol shitcoins lol), but neither should one be so prideful about human knowledge to think expert opinion is ever axiomatic.

The sheer arrogance though. We've figured out the way everything works and everything contrary is outlandish and outright stupid. Absolutely no way there could be more to how the world works

Got super drunk last night and just as I was coming down off my buzz, a friend challenged me to a lift-off at planet fitness on the smith machine. So we went at 4am and I impressed him with my strength which is only due to being a fatass and forcing myself to do pushups over the years.

Anyways I caught the bug to lose weight. What's the best way to take before and after pics, measurements, etc? I want this to be documented. Gonna do 48s while lifting every other day, 72s on the weekend. SS until I lose weight, dunno about after that. But I wanna document this shit as best I can.

The "world," as you put it, is actually flat. Stop being a round-earth shill. Big round-earth is paying you to discredit me, I'm sure of it.

I know this isn't fully related to fitness, but I plan on doing a 25 days+ fast to see how my psoriasis will react to some autophagy. I've done a 7 day fast some months ago
what could I expect except weight loss?

40 hours in. Feel a little bit dizzy and weak but not really that hungry. Can hopefully do 72+ if I can make it through work tomorrow.

Magic!

Look into dryfasting. It's harder and you'll feel like shit but it's supposedly the best thing for autophagy.

I don’t fast, but my guess is that you phased a constant amount of shitty food out of your diet. Again, take this with a grain of salt.

I literally hate eating, I just want to fast and relish that feeling of weakness and numbness while my body shrinks down one pound at a time until I end up looking like a dyel twink.

overloading your body with calories to build fat is natural
fasting to lose fat is unhealthy
yeah, right
why does our body make the fat if not for a rainy day? literally every animal makes fat to burn fat. it was made for you to use. you can't burn fat while being loaded on carbs 100% of time. fucking dickheads.

Sweeteners supposedly still cause insulin spikes

Plenty of studies on the matter, nothing anecdotal about it

Holy fuck anons, who else needs a whole week to drop one kilo? Fat loss is absolutely cancer. I fasted for three solid days and didn't lose even half a kilo. I think I need to do seven whole days to drop a kilo, it's so over for me and yes I'm supremely obese

Day 2. Bored as shit. Would kill for a cuppa coffee.

From fat storage that you have. Fasting literally turns fat to muscle, its magic man

I love cappuccino

FYI you can get a relatively even spread potassium chloride and sodium chloride in Australia from Diet Rite Lite Salt sold at supermarkets.

Finally broke my plateau. 75kg, here I go!

Attached: Weight today 27-06-2019.png (1034x390, 42K)

I'M SO FUCKING HUNGRY

Attached: blini-kot1.jpg (305x309, 37K)

is it really you who is hungry?
youtube.com/watch?v=GdwCvHxthIE

So much fucking cope.

They even said he is "overweight". Have they not seen what he does? He literally makes him self a walking bowling ball and then forces himself to be ripped. Like abs ripped.

These /fat/ties will never make it

May I see the pictures? I need some motivation my friend

18/24?

You can drink black coffee user.

Yeah, you'll lose autophagy benefits, but it won't disrupt ketosis and will make you burn more kCals/fat because of the caffeine.

feelin fine after 4 days. made the mistake of working out with lower weight and more reps. have a killer headache but i will survive.

Started at 247 now I'm at 237

>Yeah, you'll lose autophagy benefits
AHHHH NOOO WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL MEEE
how about creatine/fish oil/vitamin D/diet soda?

I've done a few water fasts before, 48 and 72 hours. About to do another 72 and wondering what else I can do to improve what I'm doing. I've heard some people recommend doing mild but prolonged cardio to start the fast off, like an hour or two walk to help deplete glycogen.

Anyone have experiance with this?

Attached: 1556851728459.jpg (563x651, 226K)

Anything that your stomach and liver have to process will cancel or at least slow autophagy.

I know that diet soda, fish oil, and creatine will definitely do this. Vitamin D I'm not sure about. It might be better to get vitamin D from the sun.

>mild but prolonged cardio
high intensity cardio like sprinting will deplete glycogen stores faster, as will compound lifts with heavy weights (for you). Both will increase testosterone which will help shed that fat even faster.

If you have enough anecdotes and relatively few to the contrary, you have a pattern.

Word of advice to all /fast/bros, take boron.

1/8tsp is all you need a day (Borax) for males, 1/16tsp for females. It increases free testosterone and will help you lose fat more quickly and will improve strength.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4712861/

they do for some people but not everyone just try it out for yourself
if you're fasted past the initial hunger and it comes back after you drank something like a coke zero or stuff you most likely had an insulin response

I watched some of Cole's videos, and I am confused by one thing.

Snake Juice tastes so bad in full concentration.

Is it okay to dilute Snake Juice with more water, as long as you drink all the ingredients over the course of the day? I don't understand. Can someone explain why or why not?

Attached: 1556537450782.jpg (684x639, 56K)

are you using table spoons or tea spoons? the recipe is tea spoon and in 2 liters of water you care barely taste it

Yeah, I'm the same.
Been doing a 36 hours dry fast and while washing my hands the water felt like it dud when I was young, fasting makes me feel awake again.

good going man!

I don't think table spoons would even dissolve unless you boil it or something
Yeah, it tastes a bit bad but I never got with people claim to gag drinking it. Don't dilute it but you can wash it down with some more water
No but I experience higher mental function. I noticed my vision often goes out of focus, especially when tired. Never once had it happen deep in a fast

Omg thank you I have been using tablespoons.

I thought this diet was supposed to be retard-proof!

Attached: 1558358860204.png (338x654, 349K)

I was using tablespoons ahhhhhh
It doesn't dissolve I was wondering why I was drinking salt chunks ahhhhhh

Did 11 days with little knowledge and learned as I went. You're going to suffer for the next day and a half then you'll feel good. Be safe

>no new vid in 10 days
cole is died

based cole

because they are food addicts

I'm dry fasting for 24-36 hours but have nothing to do, what can I do to kill time and not think about eating/drinking?

Attached: 1559849145769.gif (400x300, 470K)

What is the best way to go about this scenario

Attached: 3.jpg (600x532, 73K)

Everyone seems to be triggered by fasting

All my friends, family, and co-workers think I'm insane.

But now that I lost 20 pounds they are interested and copying me hahahaha

Attached: 1560473476517.png (720x589, 74K)

do it after
I've had bad experience breaking fasts with junk food like having mad diarrhea at a cinema because we ate kfc before

Go for a walk
Read a book
Play videogames
Watch anime

You have a shitload of free time not eating/drinking so it's okay to waste some of it.

What does an insulin spike actually do?

Say I were to drink a white monster, what would a 0 calorie insulin spike do?

>inb4 just don't
I'm not going to I just want to know the science behind it.

Attached: GUEST_61871b4f-1eac-45e8-b89e-815e5958dab5.jpg (488x488, 40K)

>Go for a walk
>Read a book
>Play videogames
>Watch anime

This is my day off routine

>implying anybody on earth knows that shit

insulin causes ghrelin production meaning you'll get hungrier also if I'm not remembering incorrectly does insulin prevents or at least makes it harder to burn fat
however not everyone gets an insulin response I explained it earlier

>don't tell anyone I'm fasting
>people keep complimenting me about my weight loss and ask me what I'm doing
>'oh you know, just counting calories and doing cardio'

Attached: 1442099535097.jpg (470x595, 201K)

Insulin tells your body to not burn fat.

Instead of burning fat, your body will try to compensate for the caloric deficit by reducing your resting energy expenditure.

But your body still needs to get energy from somewhere. So, you will experience two consequences.

One, you will become extremely hungry.

Two, your body will switch to MUSCLE as its energy source. If you trigger insulin spikes on 0 Cal or similar deficits, YOU WILL LOSE MUSCLE MASS.

Attached: 1561380296967.jpg (530x507, 132K)

There's some evidence to suggest this isn't the case.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4111762/

Bottom line: we can't measure autophagy in the human body yet. So we don't know if it affects it. If one wants to err on the side of caution though, just drink water.

That is truly devilish

Attached: 1559857999443.gif (360x270, 1.63M)

Drink snake Juice tho because freshwater no bueno
