Deviated septum and nasal inflammation operation

Why do you think we would care?
Because there have been alot of threads about this subject on Jow Forums, user
Why did you have it?
I had trouble breathing through my nose. Especially when working out. Also when giving long speeches I'd find myself having to stop a few times to take a breath and keep talking.
Tell me about this
All the ins and outs
I'm curious to hear if I may need this
>not doing so much cardio at altitude that you can breathe through your nose despite small pathways
Hope you make more gains after recovery
Well for one try and put your thumb on one of your nose holes and see if you can breathe through the other one. Do it for each hole. If you find that only one or maybe even neither can get air through you have either a deviated septum or the nasal cavities are too small or have a nasal inflammation.
Try and stand in front of the mirror and tilt your head backwards. Look if the nose holes are symmetrical. If one is bigger than the other or your nose is pointed sideways you likely have a deviated septum.
I tilted my head back and it's larger on the side that I have alot of trouble breathing through
I'll look into all this now, thank you my friend
Just tell your doc that you can't breathe through one of the wholes and you believe you might have a deviated septum. In my case they first gave me a nasal spray called Mometasonfuroaat which is for people with allergies. They give you that because regular doctors don't know anything about deviated septums and they just wanna make sure that it's not an allergy before they send you to a nose doctor.
I sprayed that stuff twice a day for 4 weeks but obviously it didn't work and after that he sent me to a nose doctor. The nose doctor looked inside my nose and saw that that the septum was deviated. I then had to do a CT scan so they could look at it better. 4 weeks later I had the operation.
I have it in 5 days. How shitty is the recovery and what should I expect OP?
how painful was it and what sort of recovery time did they tell you to expect? I had the same experience with my doctor last time i went, just got some cortisol nasal spray or something, i have been thinking about asking to see a specialist
Well again thanks my friend, I'll make an appointment today if I can
I'll tell you how it went for me.
6 hours before the operation you're not allowed to eat anything anymore because it could cause you to burp out food during your anesthesia which could get into your lungs and be lethal. If you do decide to eat you'll be sent home because the operation will absolutely not be proceeded.
You're allowed to drink water up until 2 hours before the operation. Make sure you do get enough water because drinking is kinda hard after the operation and you might puke alot.
When you arrive at the hospital you'll be sent to a room with a bed. You can undress and put your clothes into a locker. Nobody will access it except for the nurses. After that you have to put on pic related, take 2x 500mg paracetamol and some other pill + a stomach protector. Now you'll just wait in bed til they're ready to begin with you.
If the operation team is ready the nurse will push your bed to the operation waiting room where other nurses will measure your blood pressure, put an infusion into the veins of your left hand, and strap you to the operation bed.
You'll probably have to wait another 20 minutes until they actually push you into the operation room. There you'll get a breathing cap on your mouth and nose, take 1 or 2 breaths, 3 if you're strong and you'll be in dreamland.
3 hours later you wake up and they'll tell you how it went. They also told me during the operation they found an abnormality with the right chamber of my heart and they made an appointment for me with the cardiologist. I yet have to have that appointment so I don't know what's wrong with my heart.
You'll be will be driven back to the room with your clothes in it and you'll get some more paracetamol and water. If you can show them that you can walk without falling and are able to pee you're basically clear to go home. You're not allowed to drive though so have someone pick you up.

UK? I have permanently inflamed nostrils and have trouble breathing out of my nose the majority of the time. Been prescribed a spray but it barely does anything. I've been warned that nasal surgery can cause you to permanently have a runny nose but still considering it as I'd rather be able to breathe.
In my case I wasn't allowed to go home because I kept puking because I felt there was something in my throat. The nurses told me it was just dryness caused by the oxygen tube. I kept puking for hours after each other til I reached my hand in my mouth and got hold of a plastic string. I pushed the alarm button so a nurse would arrive and basically gestured to look in my mouth. They then drove my bed to the emergency department and pulled it out. It was definitly a solid 9/10 on a pain scale. Luckily it all went very quickly. They pulled out the tampons in my nose that basically keeps your nose open (see first picture) and put new ones in. Also kind of painful. You really wanna squeeze someone's hand while they do this.
By that time it was already past midnight and I couldn't sleep for the whole night. In the morning was the first time I got to eat something besides water which was just some vanilla custard. I was allowed to go home that day and I was only able to take water, milk and grape juice. I also took a little bit of wet salmon but other things will be too hard to chew.
Because your nose is closed you have to breathe through your mouth all day which makes your mouth and lips (especially the upper lip) very dry. And it doesn't help that you have these large plastic tubes hanging in front of your mouth so eating is very hard.
Another night of no sleep went by and luckily the next morning the tampons (first pic) were allowed to be removed. After that I was able to eat small things again. I recommend soft and tiny food such as corn, cooked carrots, and garden peas.
Today it is one day later and I am able to eat alot more now. You have to cook a litre of water, put in 9 grams of salt, let it go cold again and take a syringe and spurt it up your nose holes. This is to remove the blood and dried up liquid that blocks your nose. Also you're not allowed to work out or exert through your nose for 2 weeks.
I hope this answers your questions.
The Netherlands. Go to your doc and tell them the spray doesn't seem to make a difference and that you would like to get an appointment with a nose doctor because you expect to have a nasal inflammation.
As of your case causing a permantly runny nose, I wouldn't know about that.
I do have a runny nose all day long now but I suspect it will go over soon.

Post nose before and after please
I have trouble breathing through my nose but I don't want to get it any bigger than it is right now.
My doctor wants to do the nose septum correction plus remove my swolen tonsils in the same surgery.

If you don't have problems with your nose, that's fine. I'm just trying to help people who suffer the same problems and are considering surgery to fix it. Afterall we're only gonna make it if we make it together.
I never really take pictures of myself but pic related is me before surgery. My nose is quite big and I honestly think it's a sort of ''cope'' by my body to try and get more air. If the tampons are inside your nose will obviously look bigger. After they are out it'll be a bit wider at the bottom for a few more days but definitly not longer. Also if your nose is sideways a septum correction operation would only make it more straight. It's not like it's going to change the shape of your nose.
Well, 2 in 1. That's only better, right?
They did this to me too, you need to keep asking and telling them the spray wont work. You Will get the operation if you want to.
>And in my honest observation
>During this operation
>Found a complication
>In your heart, so long

RIP user
Are you gay?
I already have it scheduled in 2 weeks and this picture is fucking horrifying.
I have this exact same problem
they say is a quality of life change
I have the appointment next Thursday. Might just be a false alarm but imagine needing heart surgery at age 19 fuck that shit lol
No, as is evident of my 12 inch cock in your mom's ass right now.
It's just dried up blood, user. The tampons only have to stay in for 2 days. Consider it an investment: a week of pain for a life time of air. Seems like a good deal to me.
I yet have to see about that, as of now I still can't breathe through my nose because of all the dried up blood. I spurt salt water into each nose hole a few times a day and take a warm shower to loosen it all up.
>I yet have to see about that
I didn't do it yet because $$$
I'm 33, I have this shit since forever, I don't even remember when started, I have a budget in nasal drops and my country even banned ephedrine some years ago so they don't even work as they should

Is making the surgery worth it if I only have a mild deviation? I don't have much trouble breathing through my nose most of the time, but it's a problem when it's cold or when I try to sleep.
I have chronic nasal congestion and I was given a cortisol spray by my doctor just 2 days ago. Still have not noticed any difference but I was told it'll take some time.
were you one of those one-nostril guys?
Bf is getting this surgery in july. Is there anything I could do or get for him that'd make it more confortable for him dueing recovery?
It's always the risk to benefit ratio. Is the recovery time, money, risk of failure, risk of permanent damage worth it relative to the benefit that you receive of it? Ultimately it is your decision.
Just run it for a month or two and if it makes no difference see this post: No idea what that is
On the first day you'll only be able to take liquid or very soft food so make sure you have milk, grape juice, custard etc at home. He'll probably be tired all day so force him to drink every now and then. If it's hot make sure u got some moist towels for his chest and washcloth for his forehead. Make sure you leave him alone some time so he can sleep because likely he won't be able to get it at night.
It should only take 2 or 3 days before he can take care of himself again.
cost?
Got mine 2 months ago. Did not get the tampons they used plastic splints so i could breath trough my nose.
AMA
Free if you live in the right country and can persuade your doc that is necessary for your health (telling that it prevents you from sleeping works)
Jeez bro would have been nice if I had that.

shutup retard. Jow Forums is Fitness, not Fitness & Health. It's just Fitness. Now fuck off
wew, this is why i hate surgeries, taking out all wisdom teeth was not bad, but it was not something i'd ever do again, the sounds, the injections were the worrst part, the sound when i could feel my tooth was crushed but i could feel no pain, it felt so wrong, i tensed up a little bit but the assistant tooth surgeon nurse held my hand which helped a bit.
Mirin warrior skull.
fpbp fuck nose niggers
How was your experience different from
The same except for the heart issues. My nose was in a real bad shape so they used more morphine. For this reason i had to stay 1 night in the hospital and couldn't pee.
I had the same thing. Clean with diluted water and sea salt. The plastic tubes that left inside your nose are going to start to get clogged with blood. My doctor was incredibly surprised with how clean they were when he pulled them out and it helps with you healing
I ended up with a deviated septum last year and I just dont care about getting it fixed I mean what's the recovery period
I am on the cusp of pursing this strategy. Doctor diagnosed me with Rhinitis, says it looks like some one has gone to my nasal cavity with a chainsaw. He has prescribed a steroid spray so I’ll use that for a couple of months to see if the inflammation goes down and hopefully my ability to breathe through my nose comes back.
But yeah just wanted to thank you for what genuinely a very interesting thread and answered heaps of questions I had on this issue. What was the $ of the operation after healthcare?
gonna stop runnin ur mouth to people now?
Wisdom teeth removal is gnarly because most people are awake. When you get surgery with full anesthesia you basically experience nothing painful except for the prick of the needle going into your arm and then you go into a coma very quickly and then wake up wondering wtf you are
this one too please:
For his nose there is nothing you could get him. The first 3 days are the worst just help him with anything he needs.
If he has troat pain from the operation you could get him milk, icecream etc.
I broke my nose years ago but i got a concussion too so I didn't realize it was broken until I looked in the mirror one day and it was crooked
Lately I've been having dreams that I'm suffocating and then I wake up gasping for air because I can't breathe through my nose
Have also thought of punching it the other way and resetting it myself
Can a medfag comment on whether me resetting it would do anything?
i don't get it
why would you even want rectum and nasrał inflammation ??
