Planks good for getting some definition for core, or are they just a waste of time?

do them weighted and only up to 2 mins faggot, get them to at least 3+ plates

Too bad I dont get weights

You need a partner for weighted planks, so too bad op I guess

Just fill a backpack up with plates and waterbottles?

Planks are the sole reason I don't suffer from backaches anymore. They're great for fixing your posture and building functional strenght as well for improving your form for pushups, pullups etc.

Planks are fine, but there are better exercises. You should be able to hit a 2 minute plank if you are fit easily.

is this not a meme exercise?

I wouldn't expect any games for them, but planks and supermans are the least everyone should do for their backs

You smart, thanks

Progress to long lever planks (move your elbows up) as soon as you can hold a basic plank for 3 minutes.

Planks are awesome. I feel amazing after doing them. I hold them for 1 minute and rest for 15 seconds between reps. Would recommend.

definition is a meme
build muscle and lose fat, thats the only way to get definition
no static holding exercises

nope add weights and always tighten core while doing them

the basic plank is a physical therapy exercise. you can do harder variations and core exercises if you're active

The central nervous system is always contracted and can be conditioned to be contracted harder. The resulting appearance is commonly referred to as tone or the alleged meme, definition.
The easiest way to do this is heavy lifts for low reps, but static holds work, albeit not ones like planks which you can easily hold for more than a minute. If you don't believe me then look at the physiques on ring gymnasts.
Anything else you're full of shit about?

Do RKC planks.

I like planks OP, 2 minutes with strict form is a good goal.

Anyone try the 8-point plank? For some reason I find it much harder than regulars: youtube.com/watch?v=EGhQD9CVVGc

>how to destroy your back
Weighted planks are no good. There are thousands of way to make planks harder without doing that wannabee Goku bullshit.
Look at Jeff Cavalière variants. You can do planks with your feet against a wall, jumping jack planks with your feet against the wall, knee tucks with a cable machine and so on

If the pressure is on your back then you're doing it wrong

is there any reason to do planks instead of just doing hanging leg raises? Assuming you have access to a gym of course.

It's a backpack, not a hippack

Stop doing planks.

>he doesn't do rock-filled fanny pack planks

>waste of time
In which dimension 5 min is a waste of time?

So? You hold the bar on your shoulders when squatting but the pressure is still in your legs. Similarly with planks, the pressure should be felt in your abs. If you feel it on your lower back it means you're not engaging your abs

Sweet fuck I just realized how long Jeff's neck is

I've tried the plank the other day in the gym. It's good.
Only "downside" is that it lefts me a bit tired for other exercises, but that just means I gotta sort out my routine.
Also, how would you guys train your obliques with planks?

doing only isometric is retarded , imagine if you only hold your barbell without moving it for your entire chest workout...

Long lever planks train the whole core, including obliques.

Nigger how is the extra pressure of a backpack gonna apply to your abs without going through your spine, when it's pretty clear a backpack applies pressure to your shoulders
