No coach or bumper plates/platform in my home gym as of now and I am more into powerlifting/bodybuilding.

I do.

I feel like I should establish a strength base first before adding complexity
t. DYEL

Because I don't get paid to compete.

Started not too long ago, is honestly really fun, made going to the gym more exciting, plus it’s good for getting mires

How did you learn man? I do power cleans right now only, never a C and J or snatch yet. You get a coach?

Mate if you want to get good it's best to start soon as possible. You can get a strength base at the same time
>First: If you want to get into weightlifting, you do weightlifting.
You do not need a 'strength base'. The hard part of weightlifting is getting the technique right, start that as soon as possible.
chinfl.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-into-weightlifting.html

I watched some videos from the us oly team and I know Clarence has some tutorials on YouTube, but you have to break down the motion step by step, start lightweight until you get it

Do this routine

Snatch
Clean and Jerk
Squat
Press
Clean/Snatch Pull
4 times a week

This this
And put more emphasis on front squat than back squat.

yeah but how the fuck do I learn to snatch and clean and jerk thats the problem

>front squat than back squat
Most people can generally load more on the back squat than front squat. Clarence said that he back squats twice as much as he front squats. I think that as long as you're doing highbar you can do it 1:1. Continuing on from my routine I would alternate Squat with Front Squat, Press with Push Press and the Pulls with Deadlifts and Rows occasionally. Accessory work like Chins and Dips can be done once a week too

There are plenty of tutorials on youtube, I would recommend California Strength's way with Glenn Pendlay.
youtube.com/watch?v=L6SjuAOjMEk
Basically just break it down into parts then put it together

You want to weightlift? Weightlift

Because it's useless for adult

Doesn't mean it isn't fun

Opposed to powerlifting?

i do power cleans. that's enough

oly: for when starting strength just has too much upper body work for you

Are you implying the olympic lifts don't develop the upper body?

Does SS not have an equal amount of upper and lower body work? What am I missing?

upper body works mostly just to hold the bar at place, the development will be what it will be.
all the power comes from core hips legs.

People generally don't go Bulgarian when they train oly. You're expected to press at least twice a week

im not commenting on how olympic lifter are supposed to train, don't get me wrong. Im just commenting on actual olympic lifts, as per the quoted post.

Yeah, but the original post
>oly: for when starting strength just has too much upper body work for you
Makes it seem like you'd only be doing those lifts

They're hard

A couple of sets of OHP will surely make up for the hundreds of sets of chest, shoulders, biceps and triceps that normie lifters are doing while you train oly

Frequency is more important than load. If you're hitting the upper body 4 times a week with a press and a pull then I don't see any reason to believe your upper body won't be fine

>still comparing about aesthetics

How do I progress olympic lifts? The same as powerlifting lifts?

deadlifts are redundant in weightlifting workouts. You should better focus on alternating clean and snatch pulls.

That's like saying front squats are redundant. Deadlifts will allow more load.

why?

I do Oly.

Then why do tons of coachs program clean grip and snatch grip DLs? How is building strength during the first pull redundant exactly.

Find a coach or pay.

Absolutely not but okay

It's lame and not cool these days.

Combat sports are where it's at.

You are only saying that becuase its Europeans and asians that dominate oly lifting and not americans

too hard and i’m weak
think I’ll look at it when I get a double bodyweight back squat

unless you are dirt poor, you could maybe take some lessons? Thats pretty common way for people to learn things.

Because clean and snatches already involve during the first pull the deadlift movement. Front squats are the primary strength lift in olympic weightlifting workouts. Also, you have the clean or snatch pulls in every workout season see here so you already have three workouts with deadlift.

t. Former oly-lifter.

most guys who were half decent are train wrecks in their 30's

>Find a coach or pay.
Doesn't answer my question

...

What are your prs? How long did you do it for?

my mobility is also shit, but thanks for the advice.

>Combat sports are where it's at.

I’ve heard oly lifting builds explosive strength that is useful in fighting. Would make sense

oly simply isn't worth the effort for most people.
it requires far more coaching, technique and concentration than the more common strength training methods.
oly is impressive as fuck, but there's just not much of a reason for the average person to fuck around with it when he can just squat, bench and deadlift in stead.

barely I would say

Without any weightlifting expirience in one year training:
Weight 66 kg/ Height 176 cm

Snatch 77 kg
Clean and jerk 90 kg (weak jerk)
Clean 100 kg
Front Squats 140 kg
Back squats 160 kg
Never tested OHP 1RM, but I did 45 to 50 kg of 5 reps.

So why are you just a former lifter?

I do. It's really fun.
Got something to live for again.

University

Constantly pushing your max 1rep is bound to get you to snap your shit up. I'd rather take my time and lift cleanly to preserve my joints and ligaments and eventually get to 2/3/4/5. There are no shortcuts.

>Constantly pushing your max 1rep is bound to get you to snap your shit up.
lol
They don't got a gym?

Deadlifts are never redundant. It's important to express your force over a short period of time but it's also important to be able to exert high force. If you don't train deadlift you'll hit a cap on how much you can clean or snatch much earlier

Clarence said he only deadlifts once every 4 or 5 months

Poor range of motion, my hips are severely impinged and the doctors suggest surgery. Physiotherapy has not worked.

Attached: pathetic.png (600x338, 267K)

Clarence is likely at his limit regarding strength unless he roids harder. I won't presume to guess his reasons. Strength is important nonetheless

There are other ways you can get strong

oly is not worth it if you're not planning to compete in it, just like how it's not worth it to take steroids unless you're planning to be a gymrat

>imagine not liking to slam 3pl8 on the gym floor
fucking low test incels

I guess you shouldn't squat if you aren't going to be a power lifter

You can do clean and snatch pulls for that

Certainly, but is there any way better than the deadlift to get you stronger at pulling things off the floor? I don't get this resistance, are you afraid of deadlifts?

Clean and Snatch Pulls are more applicable

Reeves deadlift? I'm not saying you shouldn't do the movements themselves or anything, but they will never really overload your bottom part of the motion

They got but I don't practice olympic lifts any more, because there is no proper equipment plus no coach to guide and rate my performance, think olympic lifts like an art or competitive sport its not just strength it involves technique.

>snatch pulls
Whoever feels like this is a natural lift, is probably a dysmorph cavetroll

Attached: 1525224203701.png (381x353, 32K)

>Reeves deadlift
What the hell are you talking about? Clean and Snatch Pulls
youtube.com/watch?v=1WuSiyM-knI

My left hand is missing since birth, i can't do oly lifts.

So how else do you train the snatch?

You can't guide your own training after a year?

Snatch push press
Snatch power jerk
Power snatch

Yes but I had very expirienced coach and training alone whould be much more difficult, of course after one year you can progress alone but it's much better to have someone correct your form and make your workout plans

You have to do a real pull though

Yeap first is the snatch pulls and then the first 2 push exercises I mentioned, power snatches are auxiliary.

Beginners don't need that. Just snatches and snatch pulls are fine

don't be a pussy

what do you mean by that

>Ilya was a world champion at 17

orangutan arms

>You do not need a 'strength base'.
you do.

With limited time and limited ability to recover, your time is best used as a beginner by getting strong all around first, before adding complexity or going towards isolation exercises.

Ever notice how every fat slob at the gym only does isolation?

I don't understand. Are you trying to tell me that the olympic lifts are equivalent to isolation exercises?
This routine is perfectly capable for a beginner

retard

>weightlifting
>isolation
scratching my chin at this post

but anin.... muh arms and chest

>arms
Press + shitloads of pulling
>chest
Dips are a good accessory that can be done at the end

na dude you can throw 500 pounds over your head as long as you have good technique. i can only deadlift like 400lbs but i clean and jerk 450 easily, because of my technique. you just gotta finesse the weight, bro. it's all technique. most super heavyweight olympic weightlifters can't even squat 600 lbs

>olympic weightlifters
>deadlifts
pick one

Attached: brainlet.jpg (644x500, 39K)

don't be sarcastic

Bullshit

Every oly lifter will deadlift occasionally

most weightlifters will deadlift once every couple of months when they're far out from a meet just to see where they're at. Snatch/Clean pull variations are enough to build pulling strength for the lifts. The snatch and clean are a lot different than a deadlift and conventional deadlifting regularly can be detrimental to a weightlifter's progress

Am GDE by having 0 explosivity
So it's frustrating and no fun.

I have a minor umbilical hernia, I am 99% sure if I even attempted that movement my guts would shoot across the gym.

no

they dont. shiggy diggy

What are
>neck
>traps
>shoulders
>arms
>upper back
?
Yeah they might not be the best for biceps and chest but bud...

>i can only deadlift like 400lbs but i clean and jerk 450 easily,
That is literally impossible. You deadlift 450 in the process of cleaning it

sets and reps?
