If you were to set the OHP rack at the top of the exercise, then start the weight bringing it down then going back up like a bench, giving it an eccentric phase, would it be easier?

For statistics, best conventional off the floor is 1@8 160kg (8~ weeks ago), while these mid shin pulls were 177kg x9 @9 (top set). Then I tried to do a back off set with -8% and just couldn't grip it at all. Tried hook, tried mixed, and nothing; the grip was completely gone.
Do you have preference for straps? They sell things like these in the gym, not exact model but same design.

They're really two different exercises and which is easier will depend of the trainer. RDL trains the actual extension movement more (around the hip) than SLDL.

Not necessarily, they are just another tool in the bag. Typically you're doing them lighter than a regular deadlift, and you're spending more time under tension. Theoretically makes it a good hypertrophy option
