Its over the counter. Don't overdo it, daily recommended dose is something like 11mg, if you eat meat your probably getting close to that just from food. Anything over 50mg a day and you could start to have issues in the long term. Unfortunately most zinc is sold in large doses. I'm currently taking 30mg every other day or so. Really wish I could find some 10-15mg pills but most are 50mg.

The zinc supplements you buy at the store are bound to amino acids. The daily value of zinc is based on pure, elemental zinc. Chelated zinc like zinc gluconate, zinc glycinate, zinc picolinate, etc. only has a certain percentage of elemental zinc that you can absorb. The dose on the back represents the dose of the chelated zinc, including the amino acid bound to it to improve absorption. So 50mg of zinc gluconate is more along the lines of 7 mg of elemental zinc (same kind of zinc that you would eat in red meat, oysters, etc.)

I take ZMA before sleeping every night. I get much better quality sleep so it's a mainstay for me.
