Original wild horses seem to have been pretty fucking difficult to domesticate. Like, there were single-figure number of times it happened throughout Eurasia, with all modern horses descended from the handful of ones they managed to break. If some random guy managed to tame four zebras, they are probably more easily tamed than the ancestors of our horses.
