Because being vegan is trendy. When people are as uninteresting as they are and immerse themselves with lavish social media posts made by “influencers” they realize how boring their lives actually are. Instead of accepting it or making their own lives more interesting, they cling to labels and trends to artificially appear more interesting. To avoid being called out by the whistleblower culture we have today they immerse themselves with these labels and trends, convincing themselves that this is what they want. Eventually they break down and start cheating on their own choices but pretend they don’t, and ridicule everyone that is not part of their label as a way to avoid scrutiny. Eventually they dig themselves into a hole that they can’t get out of because they have effectively ingrained their label into their identity, and if they lose that label, they lose their “friends”, influence, and self. That’s when you end up with the crazies.
