First time I went to the gym I sat on a bike for 10 mins and then left, baby steps is key. After two years I can now sit on the bike for 12 mins

Nothing is going to improve for you until you get over your fear of embarrassing yourself in public. Making it involves fucking up and doing the wrong things along the way before you learn the proper way to lift and behave, you have to go through the ropes just like everyone else did.
And I can think of several good arguements for that position

Here's my gripe - everyone that says they have crippling social anxiety are 9/10 times just telling themself that and have never seen a therapist. To me its in the same vein as the fatties that say they have some kind of issue ("I'm big boned", "I'm an endomorph", etc.) but keep drinking diet coke because in their head the problem is out of their control and therefore it is useless to try and do anything to help themself.

The whole issue is they can't get help cause of their insecurity, fat people don't have an excuse to diet, but someone who can't even go out in public, saying they should go get therapy, if they could go do that then they wouldn't need it

You have to recognize your fears are irrational and that you are going to have to confront being uncomfortable if you are going to make it.
It's ok to feel awkward and anxious. Recognize "no harm will come to me" and enter the gym. If you cannot do such a thing with such knowledge then you are a prisoner of your mind and confined purely by your imagination.
