How come MMA people rarely look big or ripped?

How come MMA people rarely look big or ripped?

because allmajor american talents go into the nba or the nfl.

weight classes and i imagine they focus more on endurance and explosive strength type of thing.

>How come MMA people rarely look big
Muscles need a lot of oxygen, so there is a point where being bigger actually hinders your performance. Look at Ngannou for example, he shed quite a bit of muscle after he gassed out against Miocic.

>or ripped?
Most MMA fighters are super ripped when they weigh in for their fights (excluding Askren and most HWs).

Most mma fighter do more cardio than strength building.

In my Muay Thai training days I had seen big muscle guy get more tired than less muscles guys.

Because, newsflash, the less rules there are, the less muscle you need.

What kind of logic is that? Most boxers, judokas or BJJ players don't look like Mister Olympia either (inb4 a pic of Anthony 'lost to a fatso' Joshua).

Because they have to make weight.

Heavy weights though are either super fat or ultra ripped.

Newsflash, asshole, MMA athletes are peak per-for-mance. Unless you're a fatso like some heavyweights or a bum like askren, you have the right amount of muscle, which typically means ur pretty jacked, and your cardio is top shelf.
People who don't do cardio, who bodybuild, pack on fat to "power"lift with 0 ROM, are all bums.

because those fights are all about endurance rather than strength

/thread

Because they don't train for acestetics

GSP and Yoel Romero are the most aesthetic mma fighters. Connor and Khabib for example look kinda small and I'm not even going to mention nate diaz.

make another 'newsflash' you 40 yo retard

I know this is Jow Forums but why are you so mean and negative? Just chill bro

not correct. there is simply an ideal shape for fighting and it is generally lean and medium sized, but not necessarily with extremely low bodyfat (for the "shredded" look)

They did back when roids were more common. Now they are harsher and also detect them easily so you have less roids, and those who manage to roid do so with weak ones.

>not mentioning Luke "The Cock" Rockhold

Wake up, user

Most MMA fighters in the heavyweight class are big and ripped though.

>lean and medium sized
Only ideal if you have weight classes. If you just wanted to maximise a persons fighting strength a body like Fedor or DC would probably be ideal. So a good amount of muscle and 20-25% bodyfat, maybe even a bit more depending on your frame. Sub 20% if you are tall, as the weight would become to much for your cardiovascular system to handle well otherwise

being too muscly tires you out more because your body uses more oxygen to do shit. thats why cain velasquez had such good cardio cuz he had fat

calling askren a bum when he could literally crush your skull

i miss ubereem

Lol.

Because the demands of fighting are different from the demands of strength sports.
I've rolled and sparred with bodybuilders and powerlifters, and while they're strong, they also have no gas tank. Powerlifters seem to have an easier transition, but even then they're so tight, inflexible, and short of breath that they have a pretty big disadvantage.
The weird thing is that I've seen amazing fighters who look pretty out of shape, but are pretty strong (DYEL by Jow Forums standard though) and have amazing cardio. They just know how to move their bodies in the right away to maximize the punching power, pressure, and leverage.
To sum this all up - combat sports are much more technique based than any strength sport and have a much lower strength ceiling. You can have a fairly weak guy with amazing technique do well in MMA, while in strength sports you absolutely need a certain level of strength (which means larger muscles) to even make it through the door.

>Muscles need a lot of oxygen, so there is a point where being bigger actually hinders your performance

this is the only correct answer here

I think the funniest thing about MMA is that if they had a different way to determine weight classes (like measuring skeletal frame) that didn't necessitate weight cutting or weighing in, most non-HW fighters would probably add 10-15 lbs of fat to improve their punching power.

>"could crush skull"

>gets skull crushed

Askren was always a bum

Oh wow, great argument there, pal.

LMAO I love this bullshit argument people use. How do you explain it in other countries then?

The fuck do I know nigga? This is a weightlifting board. Not a missbehaving midget association.

They need a good balance between endurance and strength. You can't get big if you train for endurance.

Attached: pudzz-660x400.jpg (660x400, 50K)

Functional muscles instead of vanity muscles.

Pudzianowski probably downsized in part because he had to get off gear or reduce the doses to pass drug tests.

People in other countries are only still living there because they can’t afford the move to America yet

and yet the nfl is dying and basketball is a meme.

This. They actually use their muscles.

Lol please.

do you even watch ufc? half the fighters are aesthetic as a greek statue

Attached: LukeRochkholdFIGHTNIGHT35.jpg (1200x800, 144K)

luke is goals

nah it was just horse meat bro

Those arms are not big

I read in GSP's book because it's all about performance. He said a big chest will never get him anywhere, but he practices gymnastics for functional strength

because fighting is more about skill than about athleticism. also big muscles are more expensive cardio and energy wise and make you tired faster.

Lmao butthurt MMA manlet. Go post on Facebook about how kids theses day are eating tide pods.

Lots of them are Jacked. Yoel Romero, Tyron Woodley, Francis Ngannou, Hector Lombard, Paulo Costa, Kevin Lee, those are just off the top of my head

I'd say a good 30-40% of them are jacked. But these diminishing returns in MMA when you have a lot of muscle mass as 1) you fatigue quicker and 2) You have to make a particular weight class, which means your opponent could be a lot taller and longer reach than you

yoel romero vs paulo costa is gonna be an amazing fight
