People say that alcohol weakens you, but every time I've poured a ton of beer down the throat - especially dark special beer with +8% alcohol (Belgian beer etc), I end up setting new PRs in the gym the following day. How does this make sense?
Last night, I drank almost 30 units of thick Belgian special beer (12 x 33 cl of 10.5% alc - pic related), and I set two new PRs today. And it's far from the first time. I know that the alcohol itself isn't good, but all the nutrients in the beer - sugar and whatever, seem to outweigh the negative effects of the alcohol itself. However, I don't get the same boost when just drinking flat pilsners, and not at all when I drink booze. These special brews seriously make me stronger. What are your experiences with this? What can I eat drink that will give me the same boost, but without the alcohol? I don't get it when I drink lots of soda. Not that I binge on soda often, but I've experimented with it because I thought it was just the sugar, but it doesn't really make any difference. Special brew fucking rock imo.
And while I'm at it.. What are the best things to eat if you want to cut and bulk at the same time, and is it even possible? There are many opinions on that, so I'd like to hear your takes on it. Need to lose around 45 pounds, but I don't feel like going all in on keto and become weak and have no gains for months and months.
>What are the best things to eat if you want to cut and bulk at the same time they are polar opposites mate, if you want to build muscle but not get fat just eat at a slight caloric surplus.

Alcohol has a test depressing feature, I'm not a scientist, I don't know how it works. The flipside to that is that your test bounces back the next day, again, not a scientist, just repeating what I've been told by my friend who's a pharmacist. Based on broscience/conventional wisdom of your test bounces back a little higher you could be stronger in the gym the next day. I tend to find I always wake up with a crazy hard erection after drinking, harder than my typical morning wood.

>owever, I don't get the same boost when just drinking flat pilsners
Pilsners and other standard beers are hoppy estrogenic shit, dark beers usually aren't. Wheat beer and other no-hop beers are what our forebears drank that allowed them to conquer the world and we should too.

But it's only when I drink these special brews. If I drink gt, vodka or even normal beers, I am often weaker in the gym. So it can't just be the alcohol. Every time I've been drinking special brews, my muscles are also fucking loaded to the max when I wake up in the morning. It's as if there's something really good for the muscles in these fuckers. I wish I could find out what it is, so I could isolate that if possible, so I avoid the alcohol - cause it's obviously not good on its own.
It's seriously ten times better than even full grain pasta. It's got nothing on a dozen of special brews.

It says hop on the bottle - the Piraat beers I drank yesterday. It's as if this sticky sugary shit just goes straight to the muscles. I also have a lot more endurance than when I haven't been drinking these - even though I'm usually hungover, kek.
Noah Howard
could be low hop beer, or have hops added at late stage to the cook. dark beer usually is low to no hops though. Try Chimay, i think you'll like it.
Could be. Looks like a solid brew. I'll check it out.

No idea then mate, maybe there's something special in those beers that do it, but hard for me to say.

If you just started lifting setting PRs is not that hard and alcohol certainly didnt help you. Age is also important here. Once you pass 22-25 yo its getting harder and harder to recover from a alcohol.

I've been lifting for well over a year though, and I'm in my mid 30s.

Trappist beers are good, yes. I like the Koeningshoeven La Trappe Quadrupel. 10% alc. One big bottle of that, and existence is suddenly much brighter, kek. It's also fairly cheap, compared to other special brews.
i drank lots of blue moon this weekend and feel like 2 weeks of gains went down the drain and i feel like a bloated sack of shit still. I can handle stone cold sobriety for about two weeks then i need to unwind and i snap and go into beer pounding mode.

Just benched 112 kg today - two reps. Could probably have done 115 kg in one rep. My former PR was 110 kg, from last month.
And the other one I don't know what's called, but I've drawn it in pic related. Hope it makes sense. I usually do 3 x 8-12 reps with 25 to 27.5 kg dumbbells, but today I did 3 x 10 with 30 kg dumbbells (one in each hand of course) and that's a new record.
Yeah, the bloating sucks, especially if you're already 45 pounds too heavy. But as stated, I have it the other way around regarding gains when I've been binging on special brews. Maybe I'm just weird.

>112 kg today - two reps You are doing very good then. Keep it up.

isn't this just a mental boost? you believe that x will make you stronger , you can't even placebo since you know you drink alco free stuff
>cut and bulk at the same time real bodyrecomp is only achievable if you're a complete newbie , that training is such a strong stimulus you can grow muscles even on a caloric deficit. And keto and IF has no edge over conventional dieting , hell it doesn't even matter if you eat fat or carbs if your calories are in check you will lose weight.
alcohol will lower your T only if you get wasted , small doses have barely any effect on it
Hunter Fisher
But beer is filled with hops so it's supposed to raise your estrogen levels
I am Belgian and I prefer not to drink too many beers for that reason.
Nolan Russell
Thanks fren.
Nah, there's definitely some stuff in the special brews that just loads my muscles to the max.
Lincoln Jackson
Drinking one or two beers a week won't effect your hormones in a meaningful way. Don't over think this kind of stuff. If you're binging multiple times a week then you run into problems

same reason you would hit a pr from railing meth before a lift, your nervous system is under the influence of a drug so you can push it more than normal.
