/SIG/ - absolutely fitness related edition

This thread endorses both physical and mental fitness in order to promote healthy living for everyone.

/sig/ Basics:
>YOU are 100% responsible for the way you experience life. Not your parents, not your surroundings, not your ex, not your bully, not your future spouse. YOU. Complete, sincere acceptance of this is the most fundamental step to bettering yourself, and it is by far the hardest thing you'll ever do.
>Work your way to becoming the best YOU you can be - one step at a time.
>Set realistic Goals and have a Plan. Use short-term Goals to keep yourself going.
>Learn helpful and effective daily/weekly/etc. routines, including mundane ones.
>Have a steady sleeping rhythm - one that works for you, so long as you keep to it. Get 6-11 hours of sleep. More Info: pastebin.com/h4CDDtKu
>Learn Mindfulnes Meditation. More Info: pastebin.com/0NMDEUNh
>Learn to be Brutally Honest with yourself. Stop being a slave to your Ego.
>Focus on the essentials. If you try to do everything at once, you’ll burnout.
>The best exercise regime is entirely up to what your goals are - Explain your goals and ask!

You should at least have 3 hobbies/activities.
One that will pay the bills, gets food on your table; one that will keep you in shape. (lower you faggot); ne that you're passionate about and might be able to develop into a career.

Freedom is having control of your life

If you're into lifting, taking the tips to better yourself should be simple; as you already have built some self-discipline.

Make peace with yourself and the way things are right now.
Stop thinking the world owes you, how destiny ‘fucked you over’, how those guys have it easier.
Accept things as they are, realize that life is cruel and your circumstances are the ones you were given. You can’t do shit about the starting point, but you can move forward.

Don’t focus in what was given to you, focus in what you’ll achieve.

Eliminate the things you dislike about yourself, about your life. Is as simple as, do you enjoy your job? No? Take steps to change the feeling.
How are you gonna make that? You either make your job more enjoyable, or you change jobs. Simple.
You want a girl? how do you plan to achieve that? Are you too socially inept? Work on that.
Are you piss poor and can’t afford a decent living? Work on that too.

No matter who you are, where you are in your life, or how fucked up you think you are.
You can improve your life. Take control. Move forward.
Dreams keeps us alive, fighting for them makes us feel alive.
About 5-7 years ago, I was a fucking train-wreck.
Right now, I'm doing fairly well. Get some discipline, set some goals and a way to achieve them.
Cultivate yourself, learn stuff, get your shit together.

And realize, understand. No one is coming to save you.
You got to make your way through.
You NEED to take CONTROL.

You must have a to-do list, it's pretty essential.
As for which, there are several options
Google Keep, Evernote or whatever suits you.

But currently I suggest you use:
habitica.com
There’s even a Jow Forums guild created to keep us in check.
habitrpg.com/#/options/groups/guilds/eeb30614-2936-4f1c-9713-117248d10149
It’s certainly geeky as fuck. But Gamification has been proven to work when applied to certain aspects of human psyche. Helps you stay in check and keeping your eyes on the trophy. Stupid trivial things I used to do, I stopped once I placed them as ‘Bad habits’.

It also has a mobile app, while it’s a bit limited and on construction, it is free.

There are three main categories.

Habits. These are things you do by impulse, not under a schedule. Can be good or bad.

+Go for a jog
+Sleep early/on time Sun-Thu
+Walk the dog
+Go for a ride
+Cook something new
+Go out and socialize
+Spend time at the shelter

-Smoke
-Drink soda
-Drink beers
-Eat Junk/Dirty bulk
-Stay up late Sun-Thu
-Fap [?]
-Play 1.5+ Hours vidya a day
-Shitpost

Dailies are things you ALWAYS do. Every day or certain days of the week. Planned, they are only good. *+Lift (m - w - f)

+Eat your macros(daily)
+Buy Groceries (Sa)
+Read 30 min (daily)
+Practice the Guitar 30 Min(daily)
+Study Video Editing 40 Min (daily)
+Cook (We, Sa)
+Do your daily points in duolingo

To-Do are, well, things you must do. You can have a checklist within one To-Do.

()Fix the shelf
()Go to the post office and send the package
()Buy the ticket to the concert
()Pay the landlord
()Organize my trip to the moon
—()Get the rocket tickets
—()Get the reservation for the moon Hostel
—()Buy some moonars to have some local money
—()Buy a map of moon city

Seeing the numbers go up (or health go down) is a weird sort of motivation. I can vouch for it.

If you're still in School. For fuck's sake pay attention.

MORE than half of actually doing good in school is attending, the other half is paying attention in class. So then do it.
Or stop it altogether.
If you’re in college and you’re not feeling it, take a semester to think things through.
If you’re in high school, don’t think YOU NEED to enter college to be successful. There are other ways…
Google just started hiring people who never went to college.
WATCH this talk:

Some learning resources, focusing in code since I’m an ‘IT’ guy:
>duolingo.com
First and foremost. Free language learning tool with a really robust app. THIS IS A MUST. Learning a new language will help you out no matter who you are.
>codeacademy.com
Teaches you the basics, from the ground up.
>codeschool.com/
Similar to codeacademy.
>youtube.com/user/thenewboston
Personal favorite. This guy step by step, learns a shit-ton of programing languages. Give this a check and start watching something you’re interested in.
>codeeval.com
This one I really like, once you get your shit going, it puts you ‘objectives’ to solve through code, last batch are really complex.
>coursera.org
It’s a really nice online-course platform. There are really good things here as well.
>openprocessing.org / processing.org / codepen.io
These sites display some really cool stuff, where you can also check the source code and modify it to see what happens.
>freecodecamp.com

As for career options.
Choose anything you want, If you want to go into Philosophy or humanities, That's fucking great. As long as you’re passionate about it, you’ll find a way.
You can always become a teacher or a writer.

BUT BE FUCKING AWARE THAT YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING MONEY. Don't get a loan to study shit that will be expensive to repay.

You only got one fucking life, don’t waste it doing something you hate.

Material reading can be tricky. There will be trash here and there as we're not /lit/.

But we have to trust others.
Image related has a detailed list that an Annon provided on a thread a while back. If you got time to kill, click on the image, and read the descriptions

As time goes, the /SIG/ has had a couple of books recommended. I’ve done my best to try to get talks of the authors of such books so you can get a ‘piece’ before you commit.

Google a bit about the book, if you think you can get something out of it, watch the talk.
In my opinion, try getting the books “for free”.
If you read it and get something out of it, consider paying for the book.

BUT SHIT FINANCEBRAH, NOW I'M EARNING ALL THIS MONEY, WHAT DO I DO WITH IT, SHOULD I BUY A FERRARI?

You save it, live within your means, don't go into high interest debt, keep expenses low, the more you save, the more you can put to work, and the more you can earn.

Passively earning money.

I like to call this putting your money to work for you, it's takes money you have saved, investing it, and getting a return on it.

I CAN MAKE MONEY WITHOUT WORKING FINANCEBRAH? ARE YOU FOR REAL.

Yes. This is how most people become wealthy, saving money, and getting a big return on it. How do you do that? Again, there are hundreds of ways. As a general rule, the higher the risk, the higher the reward. What you invest in depends on your investment strategy.

wikihow.com/Create-an-Investment-Plan

Read it and create one, it should tie in to your long term goals that you set and have written down.

Again, too many different kind of investments to cover in one post, here is a good overview of them.

investopedia.com/university/20_investments/

This is the risk order:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk–return_spectrum

I personally prefer Real estate, forex trading, and stocks. There is so much information out there, I can just encourage you to read and learn as much as possible. See what suits your life and where you live. And never stop learning.

FINANCEBRAHS RULES ON HOW TO BE FINANCIALLY SMART

>PAYING OFF HIGH INTEREST DEBT IS THE BEST FORM OF SAVING THERE IS, payday loans first, credit cards, ect.
>NEVER GO INTO DEBT TO BUY THINGS THAT DEPRECIATE, IF YOU CAN MANAGE IT
>LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. THE BRAND NAME BAKED BEANS COME AFTER ALL THE HARD WORK
>AVOID ALL LATE PENALITIES ON DEBT
>BUDGET WISELY

and finally, the most important one.

TRY AND SAVE SOMETHING EVERY PAY PERIOD. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS $1, SET A GOAL OF HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO SAVE AND FUCKING HIT IT, PUT IT INTO AN ACCOUNT TO BE USED ONLY FOR INVESTING.

Personal recommendation is you want new lifting background noise: go to radio.garden/live/, pick a coty and listen away

Curiosity of , a super compressed essential reading list:

The Book of Pook
>mandatory for all males, this is a guide on male sexuality and contains essential information that almost all young males are (intentionally) not exposed to these days
Starship troopers
>An easy short read. A guide on morality and patriotism thinly veiled as a sci-fi novel.
I will teach you to be rich
>Semi outdated book on personal finance by a meme author. Main message is that you have no excuse for being an uneducated bitch about your finances just because you are young and weren't taught any life skills in high school.
The millionaire next door
>People who think/pretend they are rich are much different from actual rich people. This is a bitter red pill on wealth.
The fountainhead
>This can be a hard read due to the writing style. You will get severely triggered if you take the radical philosophy or actions of the characters too seriously.
Atlas shrugged
>The expert level version of the fountainhead. Read it but don't worship it. It's a parable, not dogma.

>Fountainhead itself is fine too

First, if you have the chance, charge your phone. Worried about saving power? The coal is going to burn anyways, so don't feel guilty. Doing this will eliminate the worry for having enough battery left for that one emergency phone call, as well as make you the hero when everyone else's phone in the elevator is dead.

Wash your face. Morning, night, middle of the day, too. It'll keep you awake and aid the reduction of acne.

If you're working, wear shoes. If you're not working, don't wear shoes. Don't wear shoes in bed. Do not work while not wearing shoes of some sort. Your brain will, and probably already has thanks to school, an association between the pressure on your feet and being awake and thinking harder. This association is a good one. Don't fight it.

Stop the porn. Erectile dysfunction is incredibly prevalent among the younger generation because they are not jerking off to a physical object but a computer screen. You will also find it messes with your lifts, making one arm stronger or weaker than the other, and can cause weakness and stiffness.

Know how to fight. Know how to avoid fights. It is important to learn both because sometimes your opponent just won't bug off. The classic one-two punch exists for a reason: it works. Throw one to the stomach to force them to lower their arms down (a reflex they probably won't be able to control) and then sock them across the jaw. Otherwise, study a martial art-but not karate or tai kwon do or anything that focuses on one opponent. Find something that works well on the ground (wrestling, bjj) and combine it with something that will allow you to deal with multiple opponents at once, like silat. Chances are you won't be fighting just one person in a combat situation, so be prepared for more.

Eat big. Get big. CMON

>week two of nofap

What are some good suicide methods?

Unironically just endure, and don't hate yourself for actions of your body - they are out of your control.

Always be learning. The renaissance man is an ideal for a reason. But it's not enough to be a sharp-dressed, Jow Forums jack of all trades. Pick a skill and master it. Something you can do which can be marketed - choose and become better than everyone else.

Studying law? Pick a specialty and start reading case law and law review articles about it in your spare time. You could read and highlight two in a week just by reading a little before bed, or while taking a shit (if on a bulk). That's 104 in a year. Write down your thoughts.

Driving trucks for a living? Talk to the supply chain guys and learn a thing or two. Take online courses. Don't just drive the truck, learn to plan the routes, work a promotion, get the company to pay for your school and go become an industrial engineer. Be the guy that knows how to get 10,000 things from A to B-Z in no time.

The best guy in a skill can name his price. And if you can manage to get a second, complementary skill to a good level, you can dictate your working conditions, too. The welder who also knows basic accounting is going to be running the place at some point. The only programmer in the firm who speaks Russian can go to a company that does localizations.

It's like the gym. Put in the time, just a few hours each week, and the gains will come.

Reminder:ead Nietzsche guys. Power of the will, Philosophizing with a hammer, Beyond good and Evil, The will to Power. Read these books and your life will change.

Anyone know of any good self improvement related podcasts? Been listening to one on philosophy as a start

Since jannies are determined to see this thread kicked off of Jow Forums, is there an alternative site that fills a similar purpose to /Sig/ threads?

Yes, just like they've remove trad threads and spiritual Sunday threads. They're actively removing any productive threads while leave degeneracy like high test threads up. Do not back down

Man I'm so bored. I've tried reading various books, trying to learn instruments, actively engaging in meetups from meetup.com but nothing is captivating me. I also have a torn tendon on my left hand which makes learning physical tasks quite difficult.

I live in a shitty small town with not much to do. Not many people, and from what I've been around.. not many people that have anything in common with me.

What do? Should I just get wasted and book a flight somewhere and travel for a bit? Fuck my job (it's a wagecuck one anyway) and >lol live laugh love for a bit?

I don't know what to do. I'm really fucking bored with sitting in every night

>30 y/o

We're not fucking going anywhere.

Learn go. Finest game ever conceived. Learning takes all of 5 minutes, mastery at minimum a lifetime. Further, it's highly aesthetic, mentally engaging, historically significant, and satisfyingly tactile for your recovery.
I live in a town of 100k, 250k in the whole metro area. I found a club and players much stronger than me to learn and play with. I've been meeting up every week at a brewpub or similar nearly every week for three years to play.
The US Go Congress is currently taking place in Madison, Wisconsin. You can catch the US Masters Tournament on Twitch if you want to catch a feel for the community and game at a high level.

Are the resources linked public domain? May explain it.

How many of your friends feel like it's a pretentious game? Why not just play chess?

Being less popular than chess doesn't make it pretentious. Chess has its appeal to me too, but you already know how to play. You have expectations and prejudices. Go is fresh, unknown, mysterious. It's much more abstract, ancient, profound, and even allegorical. Your initial reaction is to defensively compare it to something shallowly similar. Try it.

Guys, go suggest /sig/ as a board suggestion here: 4channel.org/feedback

Make a well thought out and personal message as to why we should have a /sig/ thread. Maybe we can actually make something useful out of Jow Forums.

*Why we should have a /sig/ board

Thank you, user

im just beyond hope, SIG. im such a worthless waste of space. how do people get to this point.

Yes, because they're remarkably off topic bullshit. This is the board for specifically physical fitness, which you pebbleheads would understand if you stopped reading your meme philosophy "texts" long enough to read the fucking rules. You have other boards for this pretentious self-help faggotry.

Per example

Fountainhead is dogshit and Ayn Rand, regardless of politics, is a fucking terrible writer. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yay /SIG is back. For how long is the question.
