You can get your potassium from potassium iodide (certain types of salt), and if you're working out to the point you actively need potassium you're almost undoubtedly gonna need salt as well.

You can eat a banana and go for a run 15 minutes later. Try doing that with the equivalent amount of carbohydrates in bread. You'll feel heavy as fuck. With the banana, you're good to go. Fuck, I could eat two or three of them and go for a run within 10 minutes and all I get is sweet, banana-tasting burps.
