I'm looking to get into some recreational mma for health and mindset but am unsure where to begin. From what I learned people will focus on cross training a striking focus approach like muay Thai or boxing and a grappling like Brazilian jiu-jitsu or wrestling. I'm looking to become proficient in both so I was thinking of taking classes in those but I am open to any recommendations on how to best form a strong fighting foundation.
>What would you recommend? Just go to an MMA gym right away, they'll teach you everything you need to know. You don't need to learn any other martial arts first to be able to do MMA.

Judo+boxing if poor and limited time Muay Thai +wrestling+BJJ if lots of time and money.

Punch straight in the ear. Makes them to lost balance and you have like three seconds window when you should punch them in the teple. Best option.

gotta just go to an mma gym, whats equally important as knowing a striking and grappling art is knowing how to chain both of them together and you aint gonna figure that out yourself

if you are an beginner at boxing and your going fo your first fight. Your opponent always depends on one combination because that combination is being trained everyday.... its the jab right straight. You will see your opponent doing that combination alots of times even at amateur levels you will see people depending on that combination. Theyll rarely give other combinations. Hook combinations are rare and uppercut combinations are fucking rare.

lads, has anyone here done any wrestling? I feel like boxing/mma is good if you can strike the person attacking you, but if a strong, good wrestler gets you it's game over
>recreational mma for health I recommend an IQ test first.
Joshua Torres
>but if a strong, good wrestler gets you it's game over You never fought a wrestler then.

Yea it's the best I love it. Great fun.

Do not do “MMA classes” study the arts separately. It’s more rare to find McDojos in MMA but make sure there are at least some competitive people in the gym, if not a coach with a good resume.
My coach fought in the UFC and beat up guys like John Fitch, so there’s an example of what you’re looking for.

Just learn to relax first. Fighting in a tense state will make you blow your load and you’ll gas. Just chill out, learn how to time things and work angles etc... you’re not there to kill people, you’re there to learn to kill people.

Choking.
If you were going to invest your time in one area of submissions, it would be rear strangles. John Danahers tapes will get you ready for most people’s defence while you’re on the back, if you’re really interested.

Having good BJJ can shut down a wrestler with no experience in that realm. Recall most wrestlers will shoot a double, with their head at your hip. Time a knee, develop a strong guillotine choke, but probably don’t rely on sweeps too much as wrestlers have some wild bases. Don’t get me wrong, if you get a guy like Meregali under you you’ll probably get swept but the average purple or brown belt isn’t going to sweep a D1 wrestler before he eats a bunch of shots.
