Can someone explain to me why machines are bad (for a beginner)? I've been doing 5x5 with machines for about 2 months and it feels great, I'm getting stronger. I also don't have to worry about form since the machines help me with that. So yeah, what's so bad about this? I don't want to humiliate myself with free weights in front of all the roid monkeys and risk hurting myself until I've gotten a lot stronger. Tell me why I'm wrong.

Machines don’t lend themselves to be progressively overloaded for a long period of time. You will soon got a point where you’re just lifting the same weight on the machine over and over (e.g. I did 5x5 on pin 12 last week but pin 13 is too heavy wat do)
more resistance with weights so you get a deeper contraction on the muslces you're working i.e chest press. also easier to progressively overload the weights. i recommend u stick to machines if ur a beginner.
Free weights provide a more natural path of movement, help you learn muscle stabilization, and are overall more versatile. That being said, machines have always been a part of my routine, especially to overload at the end of my workout. I would recommend a mix of both. Do only machines, and you'll look like the geezer noob both knowledge and body wise.
they are pretty much the same don't listen to the autists ITT
What's wrong with that if you're happy with your body and don't want to get bigger?
I recommend you go fuck yourself, I'm asking a serious question
You're not wrong. I wish I used more machines.
Because they don't train the little muscles that do stabilization and balance. You think you're avoiding injury risk but you're actually making yourself more injury prone, especially if you plateau on the machines and try to jump into using a barbell at the same intensity. If you assume your big leg press has carryover to the back squat you're gonna snap your shit up immediately. Machines are fine for bodybuilders and rehab. If you're a normal able-bodied dude, you should train with a barbell 90% of the time.
jesus fucking christ OP i was just trying to give u some advice. stay small, motherfucker!
That wasn't me, it was someone else pretending to be the OP. lol
If you want to feel good, go beat off. If you want to improve yourself, take the advice.
You train more with free weights. Your time is simply better served doing so.
Are machines good if you’re spooky skeleton trying to get some strength before doing free weights?
Are they fine? Sure
Do you need them? No
Are you making excuses no to do something challenging? Probs
Machines are fine,
but your statement about not worrying about form is wrong and you’ll likely end up hurting yourself/not progressing/create muscle imbalances if you don’t do some of the basics like retracting your scapula for particular movements or excessive lower back arching during hamstring curls.
Imagine being that bitter as a beginner
>you’ll likely end up hurting yourself/not progressing/create muscle imbalances if you don’t do some of the basics like retracting your scapula for particular movements or excessive lower back arching during hamstring curls
Isn't this doable with some kind of machine? I really want to avoid the roid monkeys.
Lol
We say people are not gonna make it pretty often, but ngmi
How so?
